Have you done this walk? Do you prefer the clifftop route, or this beach route? What other walks would you like to see me do?
@lumpyfishgravy3 ай бұрын
I've run it a couple of times - out along the beach, back along the cliffs. It's about half marathon distance but feels more. I stopped at the Aycliffe shop for a "twix fix" then carried on before I cooled off. The views from Shakespeare Cliff etc are TREMENDOUS! Another quite fine running route is along Hythe Military Canal. Yet another is along the coast from Deal - both North and South are great. I've also tried the Elham Valley Way to Etchinghill and back, that was nice; challenging in places.

@@lumpyfishgravy I agree about the RM canal, great place. I walked about 14 miles of it last year from Hythe. And have walked from Deal to Dover a few times too. I will look into Elham Valley to Etchinghill, haven't explored that yet, so thanks for the idea!

@@SimonBurnCreative Looking again on the map, I'm not entirely sure which route I took! I know my plan was to get to the transmitter and back from near Canterbury road, so it would have been via Crete Road West along the North Downs Way. I do remember quite a few stiles and some pretty epic gradients. On a clear day the views are tremendous. You should be able to see Dungeness and the Marsh wind farm.

We as a family, one New Year’s Day back in the late 70’s walked from the Warren along the beach to Dover Western Docks, then around to Priory & got the train back to Central as we were all rather….. worn out plus it was getting dark too 😂 The section from, ECP at Copt Point to Jocks pitch was once as wide as 3 cars width as we would ride our trails bikes from there, up Jocks Pitch pass Mickey Kings Martello Tower then up over the concrete bridge (little Switzerland road below) right up to the Valiant Sailor & have a Sunday afternoon up on the old Airship mooring land (now Battle of Britain memorial site) this was early 80’s… Great Video 👍

Haha, yes, it's a bit of a stretch to walk back again, I like jumping on the bus. I remember it being easier back in the 80s to walk past Copt Pint, back in the 80s. And the tunnel at Samphire Hoe was not lit, it was a damp and dark and quite scary. Thanks for you comment, great to hear others have done that walk. 😊

Fantastic video Simon. I was lost in the music, the landscape & the narration. The spider orchid was my fav part. That certain absorbing quality of this beautiful video kept me glued till the very end, and I did not want it to end. Subscribed, cheers!

Wow, thank you, that's one of the nicest comment i've ever received! I'm just sorry I rushed the end a little due to audio issues. More walks like that coming up over the next couple of months, time permitting. Thanks for subscribing, much appreciated. 😊

Before the Hoe was constructed,I walked from Folkestone to Dover along the beach.....at low tide lol 😬.One of my favourite walks the Warren,you do feel isolated from civilisation....great feeling 😊

I walked as far as the tunnel before the Hoe, didn't think you could walk further on the shore! I agree about the isolation, love it! Thanks for the comment.

Have cycled this( as much as you can) on a MTB bike. I think you over state the difficulty of this route,its not like walking in the Lake District, or similar. Its never that slippery. Do you the remember the chap that used to live on the beached boat/hut, a few years ago?
@SimonBurnCreative10 ай бұрын
Having walked many trails in the Lake District and other places around the world, I've found parts of the Warren when wet, more challenging than anywhere else I can recall. A slope of wet clay is like ice, but they may have repaired those sections since I was last there. I've been walking there on and off for 40 years, the landscape keeps changing! Never met the guy that lived down there, would have liked to though. Thanks for taking time to comment.

Great video and remember along there well, l noticed a lot more erosion that used to be with large cliff falls, not there a few years ago, Mungo’s boat was where you took some photos, always good for a cuppa and a chat, sweet memories great video, thanks
@SimonBurnCreative10 ай бұрын
yes, the erosion has increased in recent years I believe. it's a changing landscape down there. Thanks for the comment!

Thanks to the algorithm I've just stumbled upon your channel Simon. I've often passed by Samphire hoe on the motorway from my home in Belgium to my old home in Essex. I used to travel a lot to and fro on the train to the old Western Docks station before I moved away and remember the Chunnel excavations. I've earmarked this place for a while to explore so I must organise a day-trip! This was a cracking watch and I'll drive much pleasure catching up with the rest!

Hi Phil, so glad you found my little channel! I've done the walk from Folkestone to Dover many times, it's great. So is a walk from Deal to Dover, which I highly recommend (got a video about that one on the channel). I keep meaning to do a multi-day coastal walk from Dover to Ramsgate, maybe later in the year! Cheers!

That was one of my favourite places when I was a child . Spent a lot of summers down on the Warren and we used to take the dodgy path down from the East Cliff but then they had some significant land slides that closed the little pathways . The Warren was always less touristy as the beach wasn't as sandy but for me it was my favourite.
@SimonBurnCreative10 ай бұрын
Hi Michael, same here, a favourite place to play as a child. It's hard to reach these days, the paths are slippery and put people off. There is rarely anyone down there most of the year. Cheers.

Hi Simon, at about 1:49 where the cliff meets the horizon there is something that looks like a short square pillar, my Dad who lives in Sandgate asked me what it is (strange as I live in Devon) do you know what it it is?
@SimonBurnCreative Жыл бұрын
Oh, good question, and I don't know the answer to that Paul, sorry. Now you've got me curious!
@meadroad10 ай бұрын
The pillar @ 1:49 is located at Copt Point, there were 2x pillars built to sit a crane on when the Sewage Chamber was built in the late 1920’s…
