You really don't follow the "trend" of videos that others are churning out and more power to you I say... as ever interesting and both images and videos were a joy to see - the video portion on the "I bought it because it shoots good video spec" camera (lol) were dreamlike & that was not just the camera & the lens but your artistic view that put you in a different class to the others Si - kudos. I had notofication of this video when you released it but I wanted to make time to sit down and enjoy your content - there are not many I can say I do that with these days. Im,ages... hard to pick a fave as I liked all that came with the reel but those bokeh liscious effort really got me winding back for another look.. fab. I have 2 old manual lenses here but have not got adapters for then - bought when I had the fuji XT1 - a 50m f1.8 FD from Canon and I can't even recall what the other other is but its a 28m f2.8... lol. atb Al

Wow Al, you really know how to motivate me to go out and make some more videos with your kind words, I really appreciate the time you take to do that! 😊 I don't follow the trends because I don't really watch others these days, to be honest, so have no idea what they're doing. Not including my mates of course, like Dave Griff and gang. Yes, these old lenses are becoming an addiction. I hope to escape for a couple of days up north to visit a lovely series of waterfalls in a few weeks, and this little Ruskie number will be one of the main stars of the show. I just ordered a step-down ring for it so I can use my video filter kit. A 28mm f2.8 has become a very popular lens these days, thanks to the kids with their film cameras doing street and travel photography. I was looking at an old Nikkor version of that lens myself last week, but the prices have risen dramatically over the past year.. Might be worth grabbing an adapter for it and giving it a run? Cheers Al. 🙏🏼

I should probably call myself a vintage lens collector. I currently have 67 different vintage lenses from 24mm to 200mm. Being retired, I was able to spend some time using each lens and cataloging the specs, giving each a star rating, and listing characteristics of each. It was a wonderful way to fill up a couple years activity with my (mirrorless) cameras. There are many, many fantastic old lenses that are just a dream to shoot.

Wow, this video is a gem! Loved how you used a vintage Soviet lens to capture minimalist landscapes. The insights on the lens and techniques were super informative. The challenges with wind and focus added an authentic touch. The creative studio solution was brilliant!

@@SimonBurnCreative Im good thanks Simon, struggling for motivation to press record, I have found myself in that horrible numb zone of desire/motivation/reason to film - gawd it reads awful doesn't it! its not all doom and gloom sorry lol - in fact that's why I commented on your video as I really enjoyed it and it made me think about pressing that record button again and how to go about doing it. A sparking of inspiration i hope :)

@@GeoffMoorePhotography I understand where you're at Geoff. Sometimes it is hard to find the motivation to film and do photography. Just imagine how full-time KZbinrs must feel sometimes! I think the answer is just do what you love, when you want to do it. Forcing it makes things worse I find. I do hope you've been inspired! 🙂

I have a couple of Nikon Ais lenses a 50mm f1.8 and a 28mm E series. I use these on my Nikon D 7200. I find them great fun to use and I love the images they produce.
@SimonBurnCreative2 ай бұрын
The 50mm 1.8 E series was my first lens I bought as a teenager. Still have it. I've always wanted the 28mm version. Great lenses! On the D7200, you have a fantastic set-up!

I'm sure that I've probably mentioned it before Simon, but I do like my vintage lenses. Minolta MD lenses have impressed me recently. But another one, which I think is a real gem is the Auto Yashinon DS 50mm 1.9. Those would be my tips.
@SimonBurnCreative2 ай бұрын
I believe you have, and I did a quick search for the Yashinon DS. I'm always on the lookout in junk stores for old lenses, it's now on my radar, thanks! 👍

Very interesting. Despite being on a Z9, the lens produced film-like results of good quality. Sometimes I feel I would like to go back to my first ever camera, a Praktica MTL5B and 50mm 1.8 with swing needle meter. Life was simpler then.
@SimonBurnCreative2 ай бұрын
Admittedly my preference is to edit my photos with a slight vintage vibe these days, but the lens does play a big role in creating that film look too. I believe it's because all modern lenses are so perfect and clinical, they have no character to them. It's refreshing to see a lens with character. Ah, the Praktica MTL5, I remember it well. My dad lent me his when I was a teenager, before I could afford to buy my own camera. That simple life was pure joy, and I see no reason why we shouldn't bring it back. 🙂

Very interesting results, Simon! Reminds me of my old Zenit lenses. Wish I still had those (35 and 50). Yes, was just discussing the Z9's (and Z8's) super high shutter speed with my buddy @Mattirwinphotography last night. Nikon was thinking of those f/1.2s when they designed them.
@SimonBurnCreative21 күн бұрын
Ah, the old lenses we probably both got rid of years ago, and wish we'd kept! The super-fast shutter on the Z9 really did surprise me, I had no idea! I might start using it for photography now. 😅

I've never had a Helios, but have heard they're great if flaring and ghosting is your thing. And swirling bokeh. They used one on a Batman film, they've become really popular among filmmakers in recent years. Worth holding on to and using more often Paul!
