Weird thought that I just had while you guys were talking about sword fights: why not look at some games like Ghost of Tsushima to see how they do their combat? Obviously it's gonna be a bit janky cause it's all premade animations but it might be fun to see how much those compare to like...the reality of a fight, you know? (And also at the end of the day a lot of fight animations in games are mo-capped so it's still often choreographed content that's made to be malleable and work for most moments)

From what I have heard from one of the actors that were on set from that ICarly scene, the stunt double broke 3 ribs. I think the actual actor for Gibby said that there was a very thin layer of foam padding where the stunt double landed, but because it was so thin, it didn’t really help at all. The stunt double also jumped from 15 or 20 feet with no wiring, if I remember correctly.

So, foreign films? What about Kiltro, the first chilean martial arts movie ever, by Marko Zaror, martial artist, stuntman, and for a short time, Dwayne Johnson stunt double? The action is brutal, surprisingly well paced, but cartoony at times. But, the stunts are truly something else. The movie has a lot of inspiration and references from kung fu movies to anime, and some scenes were filmed on interesting locations, like an actual dojo (its master is in the movie), an anime inspired rocky shore, with crashing waves and everything, and a makeshift Atacama Desert.

The Japanese film 忍びの国 (Shinobi no Kuni)/ Mumon: The Land of Stealth had some really interesting and fun fight scenes. The main actor, Ohno Satoshi is the leader of one of the most popular Jpop groups called Arashi. So in the movie, they incorporated very fluid movements for his character’s fighting style.
