Customization lessens the value of mods by the developer. It's not that big companies couldn't program that but it is lost revenue for them. Which is also why they disable split screen. Why allow four ppl to play in the living room when they can separate them in ty heir own household to buy 4 licenses to that game. This is where capitalism has failed the consumers.

I spent so much time on it, my parents teased me by saying they would need to install a keyboard on a car when it was time to teach me to drive. My dad also spent an inordinate amount of time designing some very trollish tracks. The funny thing is that everything had the same suspension. I could take the Indy car, get it up to max speed, and then launch it off a ramp that allowed me to go over like 2 whole sections of track and land without a problem. It became a joke against the AI to set up a ramp that went to a circular ramp to go down, the AI would force itself to got slowly down that circular ramp, while blast over the whole thing.
@FalkFlak3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the physics are great in the game. We built the tracks in a way that you would hit the top edge of a skyscraper in max speed which would send you flying to the moon. The car got up about a mile high while slowly drifting out of the map (we thought it was because of the wind, lol). IIRC such a flight took about 2min. in midair. Great fun.
@Charistoph3 жыл бұрын
@@FalkFlak, I did something similar by setting up an overpass to last about 4/5 of the length of the map, then a downramp in to a sharp turn right before a hill at the edge of the map. It is so easy to miss the turn and fly full speed in to the invisible fence. Flew so high I lost the hills of the map. I can't remember the flight time, it was at least 90 seconds of vertical travel.

I was 9 years old in 1994. And my dad had just bought an expensive, used harddrive from a friend. Initially intended for our family business computer. Well, turned out that hard drive came filled to the brim with, ehrm, less-than-legal copies of games. Anywho, that drive was initially destined to get wiped in order to contain a load of business bookkeping. However, that never happened. As my father and i got so enamored with some of the games on the drive that he actually bought another one, brand new, for the original purpose. This was one of the games on that drive, and ever since then i've been a proponent of cyan colored cars. Another game on that drive was Creature Shock. That game caused a young me to not be able to sleep by myself for 2 days. Scary stuff back then.

An absolute classic... one of my favourite childhood memories playing this on the Amiga 1200. I still have it in the loft with computer and a disk full of custom made tracks. Man I'll have to dig this out for old time sake.

Grazie

I used to wake up early to play this game, and was always designing new tracks and stuff. Lots of great memories from this amazing game!

One of my first PC games (486 DX-33). My friends also had the game and we fought for the best lap times. A great game!

Am I thinking that Trackmania was inspired by this game?

Definitely.

This game was amazing because you could design your own tracks and place whatever jumps or loops wherever you wanted.

My sim racing roots, right there! Man, best 30 minutes of my weekend right here! Even the car sounds better than a lot of racing games today!

Used to make one small circled track, and start building like random stuntjumps over buildings which were not allowed in a closed track, but possible when not in the track itself. I had a whole world of crazy stunts and jumps at the fingertips. Such a good time it was to be alive.

Damn this brings back memories. I used to wake up early and hope my parents wouldnt wake up from all the beeping and FDD sounds from booting my 486dx. Loved the track editor.

Amazing game! Never realised this existed way back when all I had was an Amiga and games like Days of Thunder and Hard Driving.

My friends & I played this game not for the racing aspect, but just to record the epic glitchy crashes we'd do on purpose on our homemade tracks. Then we'd trade the video files & tracks with each other via floppies. It was great cuz this game ran on everything from a lowly 286 CGA shitbox to a mighty 486 with SVGA, meeting everyone's computing needs.

Yeah i played that as a child on my 386 pc, remembered it, like, ten years later, said we need a game like this, but with the current graphics, and this was how Trackmania was born. :-p

I love this game so much. I remember creating my tracks and being so impressed by how to run on my PC!
