I agree that it feels odd - but I'm not sure I've seen anyone clearly articulate why it feels like that. Ian Holme's estate gave permission and was compensated financially. If you or I could leave the rights to our likeness to our loved ones when we die so the possibility is there that they can make money after we're gone, why is that objectionable to us, the audience? Is it because art deals with feelings and we don't like that being monetised? It's called the film INDUSTRY and is just as much of an industry as manufacturing drywall. There are 2 types of stories that I wish they could have made into a movie. 1. A dark grim film that reflects what happened on the colony in Aliens, a film where we know will be met by a group of inhabitants, who no matter how much they try to survive, they will still meet the same fate.( this movie could easily have several nostalgia baiting) 2. A film where we get to see what happens if Xenomorphs succeed in invading an Earth type planet, of which the movie focus on the war and ending with the last part of mankind trying to escape the planet.

This review reflected my every thought. I was confused when I came out because the movie was beautifully Alien/Aliens visually and the audio was spot on. It had the best chest burster scene in all the movies and Andy was great! However apart from when the first adult alien took the pregnant women, every other encounter seemed to be lacking the threat element that Alien and Aliens did perfectly. Effectively if you are in a room with an adult alien or face hugger you are dead unless you have a crap ton of 10mm caseless ammunition in your pulse rifle which may still get you killed, I’m referring to multiple moments in Aliens or like in Alien a flame thrower which will only bide you time. I mean swatting face huggers, finding a way to remove a face hugger in 5 mins which was previously impossible, aliens being generally crap at getting the job done and a skinny pale AF dick-tongued mother-trucker for a finally? Yes I laughed too. I was slowly putting on my shoes at this point. A sign that I’m ready to wrap this up and go home. [Edited all the mobile autocorrects I just discovered in my comment, oops].

I will never understand the blind praise im hearing for Romulus. Everyone is praising Romulus for exact same issues that they constantly trash Prometheus and Covenant. The characters are flat and forgettable. The writing for them is nonexistent most of the time. The acting is completely dispassionate... or talentless, however you want to look at it. I remember Ripley of course, Newt, Hicks, Hudson Vasquez, Bishop, Dallas, Parker, Ash, Morris, 85 and Clemens and i LOATHE Alien 3 with a passion. I can also remember Johner, Call, David obviously, Shaw, Vickers, Daniels, and Tennessee. But i do not remember the special needs android in Romulus, let alone any other character in this mess of a film. The fan service is completely inappropriate for a serious Alien film. Not even Resurrection stooped so low as to directly quote better, better movies in the franchise. As a fan, the "Get away from her you b****" line was completely insulting. How or why would they try to cheapen Ripleys glorious moment in Aliens?? This is how i rank the franchise: Aliens Alien Prometheus Alien Covenant Alien Resurrection AVP Alien Romulus Alien 3 AVP: Requiem

Youre saying the characters are "really stupid" but I can't think of them actually doing something "really stupid". Using the electric prod in water - quick action taken in a moment of desperation and the only weapon they had to save someone's life, not stupid at all. Experimental drug was also out of desperation. You're bleeding out dying and a supposedly trustworthy individual tells you this drug could be your only hope based on what they know, your alternative is potentially being frozen to only delay your death, in your mind you're dying either way so why not take the chance? We the audience understand its a bad choice and know the consequences, the character doesn't. I'll grant not moving out of the way to make sure its dead when theres a spike, not the smartest, but they guy wasn't "staring at it really closely" as you say, nor had he been looking at it that long at all, he actually backed up after just having attacked the thing. And no, nobody in the movie saw the alien get in that cocoon. The people on the ship only saw it as a small creature, and then later find the cocoon on a wall, they had no idea what it was at that point. The characters are 100x smarter than any in Prometheus and Covenant and most all of their actions make sense like the characters in the original Alien movie. It also makes sense a band of young adults from a mining colony would make some unwise decisions in an unfamiliar and dangerous environment. You can call them bland or have poor development but I dont see how they're actually stupid. Also removing the facehugger was explained very well in the movie, they used cryogenic spray to freeze it and weaken its grip on her.
@reviewbomb854 ай бұрын
Ok. I had to switch to my computer to type all this out. So, using the electric prod, maybe have been a move of desperation. That doesn't mean it wasn't a stupid choice. Secondly, Rain specifically said, when Andy offered Kay the goo injection, " Stop. I don't trust this. Don't do it." Third, Homeboy was starring closely at the spike. He even walks up closer to it to get a better look at what it is. And I would like to also mention that he just let acid drip all over him, instead of rolling out of the way after the first drop hits his skin. And that same guy did know the Aline was in the cocoon, because on the ship, he grabs Kay, covers her mouth, and points to it. Indicating that that is where the Alien is. True he may not have known that a full grown Xenomorph was inside it. But considering he figured it was at least the monster that burst out of his girl friends chest, sticking your face as close as you can get to an ominous looking spike is a dumb thing to do. Using the Cryo-spray was used to loosen the tail. But they fingers of the face hugger also have large inward facing hooks, that would be incredibly hard to get off. They just lift gently, and it's not problem. Are they smarter that the Prometheus and Covenant crews? Possibly. I really don't remember. But I don't think that is really relevant to this movie. Anyway. Thanks for watching the video.
@gensoustudio47034 ай бұрын
@@reviewbomb85 Rain is another character that says she doesn't trust it, that makes sense for her character but she isn't in the quandary of taking it. She also tells Kay to "take this" to the ship, so she may not have trusted it but still bought into Rook and Andy's ideas about its importance enough to have it brought on the ship. Also Kay is dying and maybe doesn't trust she will make it so whether Rain doesn't trust the drug or not, she only has Andy confidently saying "it worked on the mouse" and Rain not disputing anything he says and just not feeling right about it. I'm not seeing "sticking your face as close as you can get to an ominous looking spike" that youre seeing in that scene. The scene is in your vid and it looks at closest 6 feet, the tail is shown to have extended out quite a bit too, the guy was way closer, practically hugging it, when he was attacking it. He also didn't "let acid drip on him" he was blinded by the tail and already had the acid continuously dripping on him at that point and was in extreme pain on the ground, he was basically already dead. And here at best you only have one "stupid" character whose actions are congruent as its shown to be part of his character to take risk and make rash and unwise decisions, such as in the smoking and gravity scene, and its the same guy who uses the electric prod in the water. There are "stupid" characters in Alien and Aliens like Brett, Kane, and Gorman. Why did Brett just stare dumbstruck at the Alien? The facehugger was frozen on its back towards the base of the tail, it was a rather large area, its not a huge leap to assume the facehugger was weakened by the cryo spray, it even behaves as such in the film. What Dallas says doesnt really factor in this situation. Also it wasn't "gently lifted", it cut to a side view of them lifting it off after the fingers were already detached from her head.

I'm a huge, long-time fan of the franchise I've come to realize, this wasn't made for me. I didn't care for most of the cast, but I can get past that, What bothered me most was the beat down of fan service. I was so frustrated by the end of this movie. From the uncanny valley CGI bringing back a dead actor, the out of character lines that were shoe-horned from previous films, to recycling the climax of Resurrection with the New Born (which I have hated for 26 years)...The constant recycling all pulled me out of this story. I was just depressed by the end of this, with the thought that all we have left is to recycle even the bad ideas. But again, this wasn't for me, the person that would feel this as an unabashed, unoriginal retread. It was an effort by Fede Alvarez, Ridley Scott, and Disney, using a Gen Z cast, to keep the property and all of the older movies, alive. The original movies...good or bad..were always a way to launch new, innovative film-makers. This was just an attempt to make sure the money printers don't stall. I would have completely enjoyed simply a well-done, stand-alone movie, that had compelling, well-developed characters, set against the backdrop of the Alien horror aspects. No problem with that. It doesn't have to take the big swings that Prometheus did (which I liked) for long time fans to enjoy, as long as it is well done. I just don't want to feel pandered to.
