I'm a bouncer and we had a top up on first aid etc... I am living with some friends and his baby girl chocked with a piece of apple and was turning blue...he panicked and was dangling her upside down by one leg. I did the "horsey" maneuver and slapped her back a couple of times, somewhat hard for a 1 year old. She vomited a piece of apple, small one, and a lot of her own dreul that had gotten thick...I'm glad I knew that.

About 2yr ago, 2020 era, I had a Orlando area county sheriff downplay the "new" rear optic sights. He claimed "gun fights are fast & you won't have the ability to aim a big scope. 🤔 .... He had a SIG Sauer P320 in a SAS-drop leg holster.

I started 16 years ago. A LOT has changed in policing. Here are some of the things I was told that I found not to be true based on personal experience. 1. No need for a patrol rifle. My how the world has changed. We all have them now. 2. If you didn't write it down, it didn't happen. Body cams killed that nonsense. Your footage will be played in trial. 3. Carry a baton. Nope. used mine once in 16 years and wasn't that effective. Don't even carry one. I carry a glass breaker for windows. They work better anyway. 4.Tasers are the weapon of the future. Nope. Don't work most of the time. I have had way more success from OC. 5. Always charge high and let the court ammend. Nope. Much less work if you just follow the statute and charge correctly. 6. Pursuits are a must. Nope. Been in many and not worth chasing unless it's a serious felony. Good way to stay in law suits. 7. Everybody will sue you. Nope. If you do what you're supposed to, most defense attorneys won't even take the case. 8. Class A uniforms and look professional. That has went out the window. Academy had us shine shoes and press uniforms. Cops don't do it anymore. Most look like they are on SWAT nowadays. 9. Always carry a Miranda card. Nope. Have it memorized and with body cams, never had an attorney question my Miranda warning from memory. I did special victims for a while and conducted hundreds of interviews. Never a problem. We had flip phones issued when I started and we always had to carry them so that's not changed.

I'm only a little over 3 years on the job and the whole "no cellphones" thing blows my mind. Not only can I not count how many times dispatch asked me to call down because of certain calls they didn't want to broadcast over the radio but there's many spots in my town where our portable radios won't hit the repeater and get out and there's situations where I can't always go back to the vehicle and use the mobile radio that has better reach and a cell phone became a life saver. Probably literally to be honest.

In regards to the light rule, 1 of my teachers use to be a security guard (I think at a hospital, though I could be wrong) and during training, he was told something somewhat similar. His instructor told him to hold his light over his head and to the left or right (depending on which hand he was using), or basically to just have it away from his head and torso. Reason being that on the off chance he got shot at, the shooter would go for the general area of where the light was and he'd have less of a chance of being hit. Or at the very least, less chance of the hit being fatal, or something to that effect. And in regards to the cell phone thing, though I disagree on an officer not having 1 (they should have had them), the reasoning does make sense when it comes to getting attacked while clearing. And with the take down thing, a couple of martial arts instructors I've talked to basically said the same thing you did. It's not a bad idea to learn (or try to learn) a number of take down moves, but focus on a max of 3 to 4 ways that you're good at. Love the vid. Hadn't watched your channel in a while & this popped up. Gonna try to start watching regularly again and go back to see what I missed. Oh, and edited to add, this is gonna sound kinda weird and possibly kinda dumb, but what you said about having a bunch of tools on you also applies in video games. "Let me see, I have a shotgun, sniper rifle, an M4, 3 different hand guns, 5 melee wea. . . oh I'm dead. . . SSSHHHIIITTT!!!" Lmao. Not trying to compare real life to video games, but that is definitely a similarity.

Damn Tommy, almost 17yrs. I'm positive the only one I've ever told you was write less in your reports, but only on what I termed the "bullshit" cases that didn't matter and wouldn't get investigated. I did towards the end pretty much think everything was bullshit, but in CC that's probably even more true now.

The medical thing is interesting because from what I understand, my department like 10-20 years ago actually use to have everyone cross trained as EMTs, but they went away from that because it started causing too many issues, like officers responding to and getting tied up on medicals they weren't necessarily needed for when regular medical could of handled it.

There was one incident where a sheriff deputy was shot during a traffic stop, the round entered right below the vest at an upward angle and "bounced" off the rear armor panel and back into the body causing double the damage (and yes this was soft armor). Of course this is like arguing seat belts are not safe by citing the few time individuals wearing seat belts died while the one not wearing a seat belt lived.

For the tinted windows aspect, could it be argued that by the time you get close enough to penetrate the tint with light to see inside, you would have already been shot through the window? Takedowns are great, but they dont always work as intended due to many aspects.

Good stuff. When I started we did not have cages in our cars, crooks transported in the right front seat. Accordion style stop sticks that were as big as a suitcase were kept, only at the office. 4 D call mag lites with the extra bulb in the tail cap…. 40 lumens maybe… haha. When I was out of high school I drove a clunker for a while, and yes got pulled over frequently because of the look of the faded paint and no hub caps. Now I have a new F-150 and I notice they rarely look at me… like I can do 10 over sometimes and …. Nothing happens… I don’t suggest spending!

I always questioned why police should cite tinted windows. Really never cared someone had tinted windows on their car and I was never going to make the decision to self-initiate a traffic stop on a car I couldn’t see very well into. Not worth it in my opinion, unless the car had to be stopped based on info received from a call (ie matching description of a suspect vehicle from a robbery). I’m glad you mentioned the tint. My BIL was In Military, Medical, PA (Person who sees patients for/under Dr. authority). In TX when he bought new car. Knowing he was going to MN in a few years. He got MN legal tint. Well in MN he kept getting pulled over in scrubs, headed to work, back weird hours. His wife had to trade cars, so she brought it into official check place. They agreed it was well into legal. Ticket dismissed. Pulled over couple days later. “I don’t care you have paperwork, with vin…. It’s a illegal tint. You will remove it”. Rinse, repeat. Same Officers pull him over, ticket him, it gets dismissed. Finally he admitted defeat. Had it removed, a very lite tint put on. The Officer pulled him over, checked. That was it. This was @1990

Man, those old school bulls that were on the streets way back in the late 70's when I started out were something else....🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 S&W revolvers were standard issue with spare ammo carried in the archaic drop pouches. One night the Sergeant decided to do weapons inspection at Roll Call and also check everyone's spare ammo. One guy popped open his dump pouch & 2 rounds of ammo and about a buck fifty in change fell out into his palm 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Those old guys were also bad about using the barrel of the vertically mounted shotgun in their patrol cars as an ashtray...

Easy fix, my flashlight is only 100lumens and a subject has tinted windows. Pa system, ROLL DOWN UR WINDOWS. problem solves. Seem like ppl have gotten smart over time to

Tinted windows are fine - everyone has them in the Southwest. But it should be mandatory that BOTH front windows are fully down when an officer approaches. Doesn't matter what the weather is like. Anybody who disagrees should watch the video of Officer Duran with the New Mexico State Police.

There are some really good reasons not to have a personal cell phone with on you duty, but that's more to do with the vulnerability from socal media location tracking and friend recommendations. We are starting to encounter organised crime groups that have the ablity to launch "man in the middle" attacks to compromise phones and protect safe houses with IMSI grabbers. Times change but law enforcement moves forward in circles.

I still like the notion that you have to tap the taillight of a car on a traffic stop, I've tried to pull prints off of them as practice, it's nearly impossible, especially with any dirt or dust that kicks up behind a car after routine driving.

The documentation thing is crazy, as well as the cell phone. Same time frame, in Wyoming, I was told "If you don't write it down, it never happened. Document everything, even if it hurts the case you are building, DOCUMENT EVERYTHING!" Back up gun, better have been a Glock, and you better have a knife. Also my department put us through EMT training because, we're the first units on scene. My LT had a blackjack in his car. All of us had tasers. We only had cruiser cams, no MDT's so writing a report meant going back to the station and hoping your favorite cubicle was open so you can get on the computer and write your reports.

Okay, backup guns are still a silly option, sorry. I carry a fixed blade push dagger, but I’m starting to think that’s silly too. Find me one incident in the last 5 years that a backup gun has been used effectively, and I find you 5 incidents of backup guns being a liability. The primary reason I carry a sidearm is to fight back to my rifle. If I go on a call where weapons are involved, before I show on scene, I will have my rifle ready. But then again, I cut my teeth in the military and fighting with a rifle is much more comfortable to me. That’s something the most cops lack in, rifle fighting. When I went through my police academy they didn’t even teach us to use a rifle, that fell back on our agency, and the agencies didn’t do a very good job of teaching it. if you wanna be an effective cop, learn how to fight with a Rifle.

I’m about to go into the academy. And they told me no red dots or weapon lights are allowed on my glock 17. They also said I can’t run hsgi tacos unless they’re covered on my duty belt setup. It’s like the ways of old never die.

HSGI pistol pouches have a tendency to drop mags, we’ve had a ton of problems in my units. Do they allow you to use bungees? Might be an easy fix. Dumb policy though, reloading with covered mags can be a bitch

@@mako2534 They want them to be covered for the duration of the academy. However if a sponsoring agency has open top pouches it is acceptable. I think bungees are okay but just have to run it by them.
