I have that disc wheel with a custom logo. It’s good, but has flaws. There is no cover for access to the valve. That’s a 0.5w loss. You should tape this over if racing against the clock. Strange because they have other types in the factory that have covers slightly cheaper. The cut out is not large enough to fit a pump. You need to use a compressor or a mini pump with a hose to pump it. It is exactly the same as Hunt’s disc wheel, just Hunt only buys the 26mm from the factory and not the 28. As for the trispoke, Farsports offer many trispokes. Those one’s in particular are the same dimensions as Farsports Kaze, just without spokes. The same wheels are sold by Revolver (bought from the Farsports factory) and sold for 4-5 times the price and we’re used by Alex Dowsett. They are marketed with fake graphs to show they are the fastest wheels in the world. Their marketing discerns a difference of 1.5w between regular Farsports Kaze and this Farsports Tri-spoke. Therefore there is no point in buying it. Hardly any difference and the spokes Kaze is far more stable. As an aside, I’ve not seen any comparisons of the dimensions of trispokes (how wide they are). There are super narrow trispokes and very wide ones like Vision. I’ve not seen anyone definitively discuss whether wide or narrow is better. Rim depth obviously makes a difference. Most trispokes are 50-70 deep. Why not 90 deep when this is faster? Anyway, thank you Hambini.

Modern wide rim trend is such a wank. I have Parcour Grimpeur wheelset, 19mm internal and love them. Always ran 25mm tyres and after watching a 5yr old vlog I put a 23mm on the front to give a more aero profile, the difference in 2mm was madness. Alot more stable in any wind almost made it perfect and felt alot quicker.

but how much faster is the tri spoke over a deep spoked wheel? And is the disc actually much better than any other disc wheel? You need a comparison between a generic common disc/trispoke setup (like a HED tri-spoke and a completely flat disc), an 80mm spoked wheel + disc, and the farsport trispoke/disc to show if it's faster than what most people already use on their TT bike.
@10ktube Жыл бұрын

I'm not so loaded that I buy wheels all the time, I just prefer to "upgrade" the bikes I have with newer wheels or replace the bearings. Farsports are just as good (in my opinion) as the Bontrager XXX's, which are great. I've bought NOX and Hunt as well, no comparison. 1.Farsport/Bontrager 2.Winspace 3. Hunt 4. NOX. Would a Tri-Spoke Front with a 30mm deep wheel in the back work aerodynamically well, because the front is most important or does it need to be a disc to get the aero right? Would the shallow wheel in the back have a difference in crosswind stability? Love your videos/website
@ScottWaltonDev Жыл бұрын
I think Parcours tested their disc in crosswinds in Kona and they suggest a disc is actually MORE stable than a deep section wheel in crosswinds. I think the reasoning is that you're planted above the wheel, meaning the cross hit isn't that big, and you get the sail effect. A deep section still gets turbulence, by comparison.
@Hambini Жыл бұрын
If that's true, then I don't believe it for one second. It doesn't take much to get blown off with a disc. In comparison, a box section is happy in all but the worst storms.

@galenkehler Жыл бұрын
Youd have to test that with your personal setup. The 858 is already a fast wheel, so the difference would be small. Personally I've aero tested my Ican trispoke vs my 88mm yoeleo, and the 88mm yoeleo was a bit faster. The yoeleo is deeper (88 vs 69) and narrower by a couple mm so it makes sense it's faster

Very little evidence for a guy like hambini who usually provide some data… he showed little graphs which only showed indexed comparisons between wheels normally little or no people ride in groups / competition. It would be much more useful to have real data against some benchmark like zipp 404s or 808s like he mentioned. Reminds me of how he laughed at brands saying in their websites their wheels are “10% faster” (which was outrageous for him) and proved that data was absolutely pointless. This video (apart from looking like sponsored) looks like that project from school you had to show on Monday and you remembered on Sunday afternoon and rushed to show something Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy his content very much. But that’s precisely why I don’t just go for the zipps in the first place. I wouldn’t buy them just cause zipp says so, and I wouldn’t get these farsports just cause hambini said it once
@Hambini Жыл бұрын
Dnv plot, balance data, vibe data, fits. Free stream recovery. Not enough data for you?
@miguelsaez340 Жыл бұрын
@@Hambini like I said, compared to wheels that don’t get close to the benchmarks of their market. They are great products, I don’t argue about that. But if you can’t compare them usefully, their performance is isolated. Your audience may be 5% engineers, 1% bike manufacturers, and 94% cyclists who would thank useful data comparisons against what they know is on the peak of performance out there (HED, zipp, enve, Roval… and so on) and those terms you published are no way comparable nor useful for them. Engineers might be happy but even you know you are focusing today in time trialists. CdA, percentages or even watts at 30, 40, 45, 50kph (watts at certain speeds I do not agree with) are the data that convinces them. The same data you may have used yourself in the past. I hope I sent you a clear message. There is no intention of criticizing your work. I have another opinion on what I saw today.
@oscarjohnstone7907 Жыл бұрын
@@Hambini gotta say I agree with this guy. Usually a big fan of the analysis you do but this one seemed lacking. No mention of methodology or the setup tested. On the aerodynamics side in particular the data you have presented shows nothing really other than the disc being less stable and faster than normal rims which pretty much goes without saying at this point. Using free stream recovery data also is pretty rogue because this isn’t something people can compare to existing data for other wheel sets as far as I know. To go out and say time triallists should buy these wheels seems a bit much because you’ve not compared them to any other TT wheels. Really hoping it’s not bc you’ve sold out to farsports with the promise of making a video that makes the wheels look good via very selective inclusion or anything.

How does rider weight effect the stability of the wheel? I am 265 lbs and I see almost no effect from cross winds.
@jonahbert111 Жыл бұрын
Great! I want a pair for my folding bike which take 406 size. Where do I get a pair? 20" wheels are inherently more aero than 700c just because they are so much smaller right off the bat. Also, the solid back wheel would work fine every day because the area on a 20" wheel is so much less than those giant 700c that cross winds would hardly ever be a problem. And if I ever have a breakdown with my Zizzo, it will fold up and go in anyone's trunk, unlike your bikes. 20" BMX types would buy it, and there are loads of tires for the 406 size to choose from, like Schwab and Conti. So, where do I buy again? Oh edit, I have to add, the smaller wheel is so much stronger and stable than a 700c, they pretty much never go out of perfect true. yep.

What's missing from your channel is non-boutique wheels. I am a wheel builder and I am looking for affordable options and prefer spokes that can be repaired over carbon. My kit is set up to be able to repair them on the road--using my hand as the tensiometer in a pinch. The good and affordable hubs is a small list: DT Swiss, Shimano, White Industries and the even cheaper Bitex at Bike Hub store. No hub incorporates all the designs I want. Shimano has a good cup and cone bearing design. And one hub maker (forgot its name) has made one flange much wider to better balance NDS and DS spokes. Making the rim asymmetrical is another trick for this. Kin lin makes some very true and very affordable rims. I also like the H+ son archetype. Velocity rims are often out of true. The sapim CX ray is the obvious choice for spoke.
@LitheInLitotes Жыл бұрын
There's also some challenges with Disc since crossing patterns must be reversed for braking load at the hub. Front disc hubs also introduce issues with NDS and DS balance.
