when I was 19 years old, I was very skinny and I went to the doctor because my legs hurt so much, I have vein disease. The doctor told me that I had lymphedema. Now I am 52 and with menopause I start notice that I also have lipedema, I didn´t know about it in the past. I am so happy to find your videos, they are so useful. Thanks!!

Thank you. I appreciate any and all information you give on this disease. It has been in the last year so debilitating 😢 to my body. I’m 58 and I walk as if I’m 100 years old. Lot a pain I endure on the daily. Keep up the good work.

Just had ablation in both legs and sclerotherapy. The vascular surgeon was very good. My company paid 80% of cost. 100% would have been better of course! ;)

I have had 2 vein ablation procedures done and 5 different appointments for injections. 2 on right and 3 on Left 2 more appointments 2 go in September. Still have bruising from July and the little hard pumps where the injections were. Very painful! Medicare has paid for it all!

I had no issues with United Healthcare approving my Vein procedure. I had history of using compression on my own. Don't know if that made a difference. Still expensive. Insurance covered 80%. I still ended up paying out of pocket over $1k. Would've been more if deductible wasn't met.

Yes! I had ablation done on my Great Saphenous vein in both legs in 2013 and some sclerotherapy. Those procedures gave me a lot of relief for about 9 years.I'm currently having some touch-up work, and I hope it will give me some relief now. Thank goodness, no real fight with insurance because it was already in my records that I was using compression leggings and using a pneumatic pump so there was nothing else to do besides having more procedures. Yes it was and is much easier this time round as far as pain. Good luck to you and I pray everyone is having a pain-free day.

Hello everyone-and thanks, Rebekah for all of your helpful advice. I recommend to anyone who wonders if they have lipedema to see a vein/fat disorder/lymphedema specialist (MD) who has experience in treating this condition to confirm your "self-diagnosis" or answer your questions. Rebekah continues to say, "I'm not a doctor" yet her personal experiences provide so much hope and healing to alleviate symptoms and improve our body image and self-confidence. All of this, however, does not take the place of medical advice/treatment if you need it-including the actual diagnosis of lipedema. This can be difficult to achieve, however, since even in the medical community it is rarely discussed/diagnosed and swept under the "obesity/overweight" rug without addressing the underlying causes. I would research a knowledgeable professional in your area, and then use Rebekah's resources to help control your symptoms and stay motivated because her thorough knowledge and personal experience are priceless!!!

I have had veinus reflux and had secondary veins ablation and smaller varicose injections. Covered on United HC. Years later now have this lipedema diagnosis and Edema in legs. Currently my left leg feels as you describe. Need to see Vascular Dr. However Husband layed off and now only have State Insurance. I will have to find all new Dr.'s since others not covered. Love your message of sturdy and your success.

@maureenmoore6553 thank you for being here! Isn't insurance the worst?? I was shocked last year to change jobs and find out the new insurance didn't cover vein treatment "regardless of medical necessity"! I fought it and won, but it was stressful. I'm sure you saw in the video I was having my ablation redone because, unfortunately, they aren't permanent. Keep fighting for what you need! Sending big sturdy hugs

Hi Rebekah! Question: Does Lipedema and Vein Disease typically go hand in hand?
@lmitchrdh
@lmitchrdh Жыл бұрын
Thanks again, as always for sharing your experience. That is how they diagnosed my Lipedema too. Leg pain. I thought I had a blood clot. Nope, guess what, you have Lipedema. Luckily, my veins don't need surgery yet as of last year. Just compression and elevation...and currently I'm elevating my legs on my waver. Hoping to maybe get a result like you get from your pumps. Question to all of you... Does anyone have vertigo issues?? I do, and so did my grandma I inherited this from, thanks Grandma. Just wondering? ❤❤
@sturdywoman
@sturdywoman Жыл бұрын
Hi @lmitchrdh! I can't say that I have vertigo, but this article lists it as a symptom (though not a super common one). See page 4: www.lipoedema.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/lipedema-fat-and-signs-and-symptoms-of-illness-increase-with-advancing-stage.pdf I wouldn't necessarily call it verigo, but twice I have almost passed out while having the ultrasound done on my legs. There's just something about standing still so long that seems to get to me. 🤣♥

I have vertigo. I'd not had an episode in 10 years or so but last September It was so bad I couldn't move for 4 days and took weeks to get back to normal. I'm 63. I thought it was coincidental that I also started having pain so bad I couldn't move my legs or turn over in bed, or lift my arms. I just discovered lipedema videos a week ago. Never heard of it before but I definitely have had it my entire life. Killing myself to get down to a normal size and hating myself for not being able to. I have drastically changed my diet and already move a bit better. I get dizzy in bed sometimes turning my head to the left.

I have all the same things you have. I have not had any treatment on my veins yet. I did have testing and was diagnosed but they just left it as that. Not a word about any kind of treatment. My left leg is also the one I have most pain in. Upper thigh area ,and size . Do you have any videos about the treatment or is there anything we can do to help or hurt it? Also do you have a video on your diet and how you changed it?

On the 6th of July I had foam schelotherapy. I’m still waitng for my follow up appoitment due on he 3rd of Oct. To be honest I’m not that impressed with this minor procedure. The veins treated are still bulging and painful too. I also had ablation and scherotherpay injections done in the past. Still lots of work to do and no insurance. When I had AXA they only covered so much then one day I was denied any new treatment. I know it’s important for lipoedema, to have our veins treated, right? Maybe you should have mentioned the relation between our disease and veins issues. It’s never ending .... X

I didnt have a issue at all for my approval for my venous reflux surgery. My Dr said it would probably be denied as they never approve it but THANK GOD they did. My insurance is Anthem Bluecross . I have mine Sept 19 .What compression brand did you wear after vein surgery? Have you ever considered liposuction for the lipodema ?

@sturdywoman
@sturdywoman Жыл бұрын
Hi @sangeetatiwari9058! Things like compression leggings/socks, elevation, and staying active definitely help. I think whether or not you end up needing treatment depends on how serious your case is and depends on some factors outside your control. Venous insufficiency is inherited but can get worse with age. Unfortunately for us, carrying extra weight can also put extra strain on them. If you start having a lot of fatigue and notice things like swelling in your ankles or knees, it might be time to get checked out. Most insurance plans in the US will cover getting it checked - I just got really unluckily when I changed jobs. 💕

i’m not sure if i have lipedema because my legs look like stage 1 lipedema but they’re smaller. i have fat around my knees and i can kind of see the shape of my ankles, it’s not completely gone and my calves are generally ‘thicker’ than most. i don’t bruise easily and i don’t have any pain but i do have a ‘cottage cheese’ texture on my legs when i flex or squish the skin. my mom and grandmother have the same type of legs as i do and i know lipedema is genetic but i’m not sure if it’s just the way we’re built or? so yeah, i don’t know if i have lipedema or if i just need to lose weight? (i’m around 153 pounds)

@flipsideofhanz I have everything you describe. My Mom and Grandma (both now deceased) I think had lipedema. I'm 5'3" and 165 lbs. I also have fat around my knees and "cottage cheese" thighs. I haven't worn a bathing suit in YEARS because I'm so embarrassed about my legs. So embarrassed that I wear jeans in the hottest weather! It's terrible. I was very thin in my 20's but here I am (almost 65) and don't want to wear any kind of shorts at all. I will wear the dreaded "old lady" capris that cover my thighs and cut my legs off mid-calf. I'm so sad about this.

This is something I intend to try to break up the fibrosis. There is definitely something behind this as I recently had great success with a cyst/fibroid in my breast that was gone after one weeks treatment just using a castor oil pack. (See Barbara O'Neill - YT)

I have pain now at my one knee. I’m not sure if it is my veins, lipedema or I need a knee replacement.
@sturdywoman
@sturdywoman 7 ай бұрын
@helenguilford3136 it could be a combination of all of the above! Some of the vein clinics offer free or very low cost initial ultrasounds of your major veins then will ask you to schedule more if they find anything concerning. As a starting place it might be worth checking to see what's available in your area. Google "saphenous vein" and see if that's where your pain is. That's a common one that fails but it can be any of them. Good luck
