Orkney joins Norway's Constitution Day celebrations for first time in two years

Orkney has joined annual celebrations to mark Norway's Consitution Day for the first time in two years.
Islanders held a service followed by a parade through Kirkwall to celebrate their special friendship with the Nordic nation.

Orkney and Shetlands, mainland Scotland has no connection with Norway. England has more connection with the Scandinavia than Scotland. Another SNP dullard running their mouth off by the sound of it.

Orkenøyene and Shetland carries Norwegian blood just as on our side of the sea, but they have cultured caring for culture better than us on the mainland of Norway. In good winds, a ship with sails moves a Norwegian from either side and over, in a day, a night and a some cups of coffee. And, the Norwegian may very well be from Orkney or Shetland. Letting the juridical problems aside, I really hope Orkney votes to transform fully to Norwegians, with the same and full rights - as any Norwegian. And in the speed of matters, I hope Shetland does too! And for the former Norwegian island of Færøyer, - please join! All the best from Norway! Best regards, Erik

People forget that Orkney was and is Pictish land long before the Norwegians set foot in Norway!

As a Norwegian, I would like it if Orkney would join Norway as we have controlled Orkney through alot of history until the 15th century. I feel like Orkney would be the most patriotic part.

Remember Alba’s Picts, its Pictish Stones + Broch building culture. This was very much the culture of Orkney + Shetland, like many other parts of Alba, long before any Vikings.

The fourth-century historian Eutropius also claims that Claudius added the Orkneys to the empire. We should not take these claims at face value; Ireland and the Orkneys were highly symbolic as the limits of the known habitable world. But the fact is that Roman pottery of a type that went out of production about AD 60 has been found at the broch of Gurness in Orkney, suggesting some kind of contact at a very early stage of the conquest."

Every Latin person today is a descendent of the romans, not only the Italians, so a flag would be the combinations of all ( I'm italian )

There is no evidence of any permanent Roman presence in Orkney. At most, some Romans showed up briefly and left, but they engaged in self-promotion by saying they “conquered” Orkney and added it to the empire.
