47:00 Business has been down since WM6 when Vince decided to focus on WBF instead of his bread and butter. Business stays down because of a steroid scandal & ring boy scandal. Also, when you think WWF you think Hogan, Savage, Andre, Warrior - all are gone. Anyone not paying attention on a regular basis is unaware of Bret Hart who doesn’t get the marketing push of a Hogan/Savage/Warrior and also won his first title in a non-televised match in a no-build program with Ric Flair. If you DID turn on WWF programming you were treated to a hockey goon, a garbage truck driver, a clown, an evil dentist, etc. It was a creative low for the company. I was a massive wrestling fan but I too turned it off from 90-95. I had no clue that the belt went from Savage BACK to Flair then to Bret to Yoko to Hogan to Yoko to Bret to Backland to Diesel. Somehow I saw Bret was Challenging Diesel for the belt at Survivor Series and decided to get back into it.
@Czah53 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Alot of people knock Bret and HBK for the dip of the WWF, but I give both tons of credit for managing to keep the entire ship from sinking. I mean seriously, Duke the fuking DUMPSTER Droese and Isaac Yankem, DDS were main eventing while WCW were featuring Golden Era talent on mid cards.
@RealAlphaDrum3 жыл бұрын
Survivor Series 95 was a turning point for the WWF. Not because of getting the title off of Diesel, but Bret was becoming the soon to be heel after that match. Watching this time period, things were different after that match.

How can Bruce shit on JR for talking about Nash's athletic credentials? Was he ever even a fan of wrestling? As a viewer if you hear someone like Diesel was a legit athlete, in this case a basketball player, it gives them credibility and adds to their persona, why is why JR always talked about that stuff. Bruce saying who cares is idiotic. I mean sure of course there's probably some wrestling fans that can give a shit because they don't care about sports (like me), but to the casual viewer that more than likely does follow sports, mentioning Diesel was a former basketball player only helps his appeal. Bruce was so stuck in the bubble.

Cornette's criticism on Nash is a little unfair, or at least exaggerated. I think Diesel in WWF had a very decent moveset for a giant. He worked like a big man and used moves like a gut wrench powerbomb, the jacknife, the guillotine legdrop, variations of clotheslines, the chokeslam, the sidewalk slam, back suplex, biel, big boot and several types of strikes...power moves that a guy his side would do. I didn't need to see him doing dropkicks, planchas, moonsaults or anything like that. Giants are giants and Kevin Nash was good at working like a big guy, he had good psychology in thst sense. He also was a good talker and he had a great look, a great voice and he carried himself like a star. Is he as good as the Undertaker, Kane or André the Giant? Of course not. Better than Test or Sid? Most definitely. Big Show? About the same.
@kamikazekrush37584 жыл бұрын
The Undertaker and Andre are icons in wrestling, but as far as a sh*t talking big men, I'll take Kevin over all of them
@anxofernandez33444 жыл бұрын
@Bryan Mack I think in 96 and 97 Brett did draw more than in 93 and 94 but those weren't good times for WWF and neither was Nash's year on top. The difference is that Kevin Nash wasn't so much a singles guy in WCW and he wasn't a main eventer. It's hard to compare them after Nash left WWF. Either way, he may not have been a better wrestler than Brett Hart, Shawn Michaels, Scott Hall, Curt Henning, Steve Austin, Dustin Rhodes, Jeff Jarrett, Undertaker or a few others of that time, but he wasn't a bad wrestler. Certainly he was better than Goldberg or Sid could dream of being.

I was at the June '93 House show in My old hometown of Albany, NY. Shawn Vs Marty was by far the best match. It was exciting on two levels. One: just seeing a Title change at a House show is something special,and Two I couldn't believe Vinnie Vegas was at a WWF show!! Things were so much more exciting before I found the dirt sheets. A more recent Kevin Nash encounter I had happened at a wrestling convention in Albany a few years before I moved. I literally ran into Him! He was walking out of a door way and we bumped into each other. He barley noticed and I went flying. Goodtimes.

I saw the first WWE house show in Portland in over 10 years back in 2003. The main event was Diesel v. HHH with Ric Flair for the title. The ref got knocked out and Flair called down a another ref right when Diesel hit HHH with the belt and pinned him for the championship. The place went fucking banana! The original ref woke up and reversed the decision and the place went apeshit! A fan reached over the barrier and splashed a beer in Hunter's face and he pulled him over the rail and slammed him on the ground and security jumped on him. That was just a house show. Wrestling used to be so good. Sucks how bad it's gotten...

Back then I watched WWE religiously at about 8. I hated Shawn. I liked Bret and thought Diesel was cool. I did not give a flying fuck if he played basketball. WWE still had the kids back then. Bruce is so right about Diesel here. From what I remember he was a cool looking ass kicker. His finisher was so awesome to me as a kid. It was prolly my favorite for years. JACKKNIFE AND LET HIM GO I DONT GIVE A FUCK HOW HE LANDS! I remember that promo from Bret saying how bad the move hurt him and I really thought that was injured from it. Great episode guys. I would LOVE TO KNOW what the 1995 preliminary post-WM11 plans were without the HBK turn. Obviously, they were building to Diesel/HBK 2 at IYH, then likely move to Diesel/Sid. I have even wondered whether Diesel & LT vs. HBK & Sid at SummerSlam '95 was ever an idea (which would've been nixed since LT didn't want continued participation with the WWF, plus WM11 numbers were underwhelming).

I usually disagree with Bruce. I co-sign a 100% on his take about diesel wwf title run. They took away everything that made him cool in an effort to make him a white meat babyface. They repeated the same mistake with Orton in 2004 and then again with reigns. Rko was spitting in legends’s faces, punting their heads off, throwing down the stairs. He beats Benoit, now he’s smiling, kissing babies and shaking hands. NOPE. Reigns was a silent killer. Then began spouting lame 3rd grade jokes and 1955 catchphrases.

I still think Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels were Diesel's best opponents. WWE knew this to some degree because they had them face each other over and over again. Shawn vs Diesel happened at Wrestlemania XI and In your house Good Friends Better Enemies (April 1996). I was always a huge fan of Shawn Michaels after he broke with Marty Jannetty and I thought that the Shawn/Diesel combo was very good. What a shame it was that as soon as the WWF decided to put the big title on Diesel they destroyed his character overnight. If it ain't broke don't fix it. I would have loved to have seen a title run with a face Diesel but still as the same basic character. When Undertaker first turned face, he didn't change. When Stone Cold became a face he didn't change. Why did they have to destroy the Diesel character?

Actually if you want to be technical about it he Kevin Nash did make it to the pros. He played pro ball in Germany. But I see what he saying but there’s always been unnecessary digs that Kevin Nash. Like I’ve heard piper do this before to where piper said something well he didn’t make any money playing basketball either so what’s that say about how good of a basketball player he was? The only reason he quit playing basketball is because of a knee injury in because pro wrestling isn’t a shoot sport That’s something he could pull off with a week and a half. But instead of giving somebody props that had to leave one sport because of injury and was still able to be successful and professional wrestling the guy just gets endless quad jokes even though there’s been at least half a dozen other people that have had quad injuries, it’s used as a reason to define why he isn’t a good wrestler in these simple minded people‘s opinions. I’m never going to say he was the best technique wrestler ever But that doesn’t mean he’s the worst professional wrestler that has ever lived.
