I totally agree w/ the black lady about piecing together clothes when you dont have a ton of money for designer stuff. I get the most compliments on old clothes I paired to make them work for current trends :))

Nevaeh Wright That's what I would do, just get stuff that I could put together that would suit my style. Even if I was rich I doubt I'd spend money on super expensive shit.

I love that people in this episode didn't answer the style questions with "because I want to be different". Most of the people on this episode seem to be genuine in their expression overall.

I completely understand your point. But you have to remember that many University kids move to poorer areas as they are living off loans and tend to be quite poor as well. I personally live in a more deprived area of London as I cannot afford anything else

I love this show. I would love to see you go to some random places in London which are not at all known for fashion, see if anyone there catches your eye. Because although these people are über trendy, the untrendy areas make London what it is, not always the fancy people who have chosen to work or live in the trendy-to-be areas. Love this show though, keep it up!

The problem is most people's idea of fashion is FOLLOWING fashion, having a streetwear uniform, rather than being individualistic, so whenever someone looks outlandish or unique they get labelled a hipster because it's an easy way to disparage them.

It is interesting to see how "outsiders" view London, particularly the parts of London that are seen to be "cool" or "trendy"... I wouldn't say that these are your average Londoners though. As some have said below, more affluent people are moving into typically 'poorer' areas like Dalston, and your average person is getting priced out of the market - or getting moved out of London. This isn't the Dalston that most people from Dalston recognise.

I do agree with you but areas of east London like Bow, Bethnal Green & Hackney used to be cockney and they moved on. London will always change which in a way is good but more should be done for families. You can blame the Government for that. It's always the property developers who coin in these situations. Calling a demographic in of people hipsters doesn't help anyone though. It's a bit like inverted snobery imo. x

Ya its like hipster is the new word for other or different. I feel like here in the US if you don't wear abercrombie or wear the "latest" then you are hipster and that kind of takes away from the fact that some people just have their own individual style.

No beef but I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that when she said that people need to 'get over' gentrification, she was referring to the trendy demographic rather than the poor single mothers you're thinking. Poorer areas with low rents attract artists and fashion knobs which in time draw the attention of property developers, and then multi-national companies like Starbucks, & Tescos etc London constantly evolves. Don't forget the east used to be full of cockneys. Things change, people move on.

that's not "safe to say at all". that's actually a huge implication on your part. no disrespect but things may change but the picture looks like the same. gentrification happens, poor people get pushed out, privileged people get bored and find the next trendy poor neighborhood to gentrify.

Yeah because I'm pretty sure Ugly Lady was thinking for women - as well as for the struggling single mothers who are going be pushed out of their homes due to the invasion of yuppies when she stated that people need to 'get over' gentrification - 'as it is happening everywhere'. And I don't remember insinuating that I was for 'privileged women's' rights.
