This honestly made my Sunday morning! What an unexpected and wonderful surprise to see my two favourite KZbinrs having this amazing and thoughtful conversation on fashion and style. I hope that you do another style convo. together in the future, thank you for this treat! ❤

Ellie’s thoughts about the whole millennial makeover thing are so on point!! I think it’s easy for the current teen/young generation in any era to perceive style as something that only gets better over time, but once you hit late 20s/early 30s you realise that it’s constantly shifting and there’s always good and always bad (and always call-backs to earlier eras). Good on Ellie for realising that at 22 honestly, very wise. Wonderful to hear you both share your wisdom 😁

I had a baby in February (now I have 4 kinds 5 and under) and I’m seriously in tears right now with the bit you lovely ladies were talking about with the “motherhood vortex” and being less stylish because style is not at the forefront, even though that’s something that is deeply valued. After every pregnancy I’ve had to rediscover my style and my body and we’ve even moved to a completely new, far away state when baby #3 was 7 weeks old. Thank you for talking about this- such a blessing! 💕

This is so great because it was a combination of Ellie’s style roots and Rita’s style keys that helped me truly figure out what my style is in my heart and soul. My problem now is that I can’t find items that fit my style for my body type. But at least I know what I want!

Looking at your current wardrobe in a fresh way: One time a designer showed me that I could pair patterns together as long as there was one commonality between them (one color, the shapes, etc). I made a beautiful outfit from that idea! It takes self discipline and creativity because it does feel more tempting to just buy something new! Putting together monochromatic outfits (different shades of a color) is my go-to method right now.

I admire both of you ladies and the systems that you two created. Your systems are inspiring to me! Thank you for your creativity and for sharing 🙏🏾 ❤😊

100% agree about DYT. I tried it, struggled to get it, liked the community, but felt like I was missing something & didn’t want to pay lots more for personalised tuition to understand. TBH I struggle to find myself in style logic keys system too but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy your insights & general enjoyment of style, Rita 😊. I love how you both argue that a happy person whose clothes suit their body & personality is a stylish person.

I was just watching the Interview and had such a great moment of being understood and feeling seen! I had a baby 3 1/2 years ago and I feel so different, lost and confused about WHY my clothes dont fit/ work/ express myself anymore. Hearing some kind words about the specific struggle of that time just really helped me feel less alone with the whole thing. Seeing my style as a safe space for my needs and for my personality is really what draws me to both of your systems. The interview made that very clear

Interesting chat. It convinced me to go look out Ellie's Style Roots system. About kibbe, I think some people make it more complicated/restricted that it needs to be, or are too "purists" (for a lack of a better world). To me it was useful to help me understand my body lines and how clothes and fabric drape on it. It was the first time I learnt about it and this was a revelation. I still don't know if I am a romantic or a soft gamine. And I don't care. Because I now have life changing insights on why some clothes/outfits don't work and why others do. I don't need to always look my theorical "best" according to a stranger. I need to feel confident and comfortable in what I am wearing. These insights help me find the version of a type of clothing or fashion style that work on my petite and curvy body. And that's all I need for everyday life. :)

I loved this so much! Two of my favorite style queens going deep made my day. Also loved the part about postpartum… gave me great insight that right now it makes sense why I’m confused about my style as my body and needs are so wildly different than ever before. Helped me relax and realize that style can still be a part of me even though right now I have different priorities and dress for function primarily. And that this phase won’t be forever either. A grounding, empowering convo. Thank you! ❤

@elliejeanroyden I love what you said about your mom feeling the subtle pressure to choose 🌼. Even as a younger woman, I've been avoiding my 🌙style root coz' people don't like the dark, moody aspect of me. Thanks!

If the moon style root feels authentic to you then you should embrace it. The style root can manifest in so many different ways and doesn't always have to be dark and moody. I think the moon can also be mystical and ethereal. Maybe just pick one small way you can incorporate it and work your way up from there.

Yes, that’s exactly what we want, a quiz to tell us exactly who we are, and that must be so frustrating for both of you. On the other hand, we would probably rebel against it if ever there were to he such a thing. I imagine with AI, it’s a possibility people will begin to ask. “Dear AI, Who am I and what is my essence, style, body type?”
@catherineaustin57399 ай бұрын
Try the myers briggs personally test, it explains exactly who you are and how your mind works. There’s 16 possible types and I have found them to be very very accurate. Finding my type (INFP) has been so beneficial in every aspect of life including style x

I think these systems that encourage personal style are nice pushback against the locked in aesthetics thing the younger generation is doing. The peer pressure around that stuff is unbelievable.

Re: "what is style?" I'm starting to view style as more of like... a Sensibility?? Like the art community is Full of beginners being like "How do i do this style?" "How do i get a good style?" "Which style is the most beautiful/proffessional?" Like stop stop stop. WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO? there's no point in doing something you don't like. "I JUST WANT TO BE GOOD", okay, let me start you out with some art theory so you can better Understand what it is you want to achieve, then apply that. "NO BUT I WANT TO EXPRESS MYSELF" okay. Do that. Awesome. "BUT OTHERS ARE BETTER THAN ME!" That's subjective but yes, that's bc they've been doing it for longer. Keep working at it, you'll get there. "BUT I'M NOT HAVING FUN" then why are you doing it? If this isn't fun for you, if it's not nourishing you? Find a PROCESS you enjoy and Do That. Like... when someone has a, so called, "good style" in art, first of all, it's Subjective, second of all, Style Never exists in a vacuum, there is always a cultural, economical, practical reason why it is what it is (some people can only afford pencil and paper, but they create Great art still), anime and cartoons are simplified w big eyes to he Expressive and Easy to Animate (not Draw, ANIMATE, meaning 12-24 drawings Per Second) it's there to tell a Story. Comics are Similar but they're drawn not animated and Can have more complexity, 3d modelling can have even more complexity, and Consept Art (wow!) You're just conveying your Idea, you don't have to be Minimal at all, you just tell a story in One Immage (the opposite). Then Painting?? Omg the options available to you, use Anything you want! What i mean to say is, Style has a Function and is a cool bi product of your sircumstance, your needs and your Aesthetic Sensibility. Soooo Yeah!! Having One Style is overrated in the art community, i don't see why fashion should be different fundamentally, it's just a different medium (that happens to be nessesary for leaving the house which forces ppl who aren't artists to try and interpret the garbled artsy soup that is fashion to work in their everyday life, even tho you only Really need jeans and a t shirt? (pen and paper)). Man immagine if every time you went out you were judged on your ability to draw?? That'd be Crazy
