I think fans of the minimalist look are already "minimalist" in other areas of their life. They love simplistic and modern and it shows in other areas of their life (furniture, home decor, hairstyle)I feel like you have to already have a minimalist personality to really look comfy and authentic in this style. I love classic pieces that can take me through every single season...so this trend works wonders for me.

I think Minimalism can incorporate monochromatic colors not just white and black. It could be different tones of red in one look or even color blocking with simple or architectural shapes.

You should've pointed out that this is a *stereotypical* minimalist style. Not all minimalists dress in black, white and grey. Most importantly: wearing minimalistic clothes does not make you a minimalist. Minimalism is a lifestyle. Everyone can wear simple clothing in basic colors, but that doesn't make them minimalists.

Also, plenty of people claim to be when they aren't they just use it and try to sell stuff. Kind of like this video. It's more of having a small set of things that work all the time, not so much simple colors. Kind of bothers me when people use it as a trend when trendy things kind of go against the idea of minimalism.

Her video series is just about fashion style types, not lifestyles. The same name can be used for both but it's two different things. Minimalist fashion is a legitimate style name. She's not saying anything about the minimalist lifestyle at all. It's the same with all the fashion styles- you can have a bohemian fashion style while still having a totally corporate, mainstream, non-bohemian lifestyle. You can wear sporty clothes all the time, and never do any sports.

I love an all grey and taupe minimalist look but black and white pieces together is my least favorite look. I can't think if anything less imaginative. At least with a monochromatic look you can play with shades and textures and make it interesting and flattering.

Thank you Lauren! I love minimalism and I tried it but I realize I look better with a little more detail more preppy/classic and more jewelry. I feel like people who are naturally gorgeous and have more of a model body type will do best with this style. On average people it ends up looking very average! 😴 I have a strong jawline and felt like I looked mannish in some of these pieces and I need more detail to up my femininity. Thank you so much for your honest assessment of this style, let's not jump on every trend!

What? The minimalist look has nothing to do with the colors a person chooses to wear. It's about limiting the number of items in your entire wardrobe and making sure they all work together. My minimalist look is based on black, teal, plum, and silver, with some white and silvery gray. It includes layering, edgy styling, statement jewelry pieces, and scarves. The minimalism comes down to my lack of a shopping habit and the styling is due to my interest in recycling and repurposing found items in a creative way.

I like your candor and agree with your disclaimer. I agree people should think about weather a minimalist wardrobe is for them. I’ve had a minimalist wardrobe for close to two years. It took sometime to adjust to this style. However, overtime I added my own style and flare.

Are there flat shoes I can wear with pencil skirts without looking sloppy? They just seem to look weird to me with my Chelsea boots or ballet flats. I'm a teacher and am on my feet all day so I only do heels a few times per month. Should I just stick to another silhouette that is more flat friendly?

A great place to find nice affordable pieces (any fashion style, really) is Nordstrom Rack. It is amazing what you can find in the clearance ranks. Fashion Question - What are the best stores or websites to find classic shoes (pumps, wedges, nice flats, etc) for women with large sizes? I wear a size 12M. I dont know anywhere else but Nordstrom to buy shoes. Are there hidden gems out there somewhere?

If we're being honest, and you kind of said this but you were more tactful than I will be, this look really only looks good if you are a model or close to being one. To look good in this look you need to be either thin or good looking and even better if you are both. This is what you mean when you say people aspiring to the style think it's going to make them look like the celebrity they see wearing it.
