Tips from the video: Don't: overwash your hair Do: train your scalp & hair Don't: overuse volume shampoo Don't: use a super heavy conditioner Do: use a moisture mask 2x a month Don't: let your hair air dry Don't: sleep with your hair down Do: use a silk pillowcase/scrunchie Don't: put heat on your hair without a heat protectant Do: use your heat tool on a lower heat setting I'd love to know your thoughts on a hot hair brush. I tried the revlon one & it gets way too hot & the brush is too big for my short hair.

My beautiful Summer! My best tip for volume is a good ole blow out on wash day. I have learned that if I take the time to do a quality blow out with root lifter and/or mouse and a round brush (or a blow dry brush) my hair will look better for more days than if I do a quickly blow out or air dry. There is no better substitute for a quality blow out! I also use my fave Voloom on day 2 or 3 to add back volume at the root.

I love the Pacifica Rosemary Purify shampoo and conditioner. I do a first cleanse to the scalp, the use a strengthening shampoo for the second wash. The Pacifica conditioner is super light weight. I twice a week and use a mask every fourth wash. I wear my hair wavy and I use Aussie Sprunch Mousse plus Leave In for refreshes, light weight and does a good job at enhancing my waves without stickiness.

As a fine-haired gal myself, I couldn't agree more with everything you said! I'm so glad you mentioned to not over use volume shampoo because I've been using it exclusively for awhile now, and noticed my hair (and scalp) just seemed overly dry or something. I've been needing more oil to get it to feel smooth and conditioned and less flyaway and frizzy. I'm going to have to check out that shampoo you mentioned, or go back to my old shampoo that I still have a bunch of, and only use the volume stuff occasionally. I JUST watched a video from Justin Hicks (I think that's his last name... maybe Hickox? =/ I'm SO bad with names!) about "15 hair myths" and he actually mentioned a study that proved hair gets more damaged air drying it than blow drying it! Pretty interesting! Thank you Summer, great video!

The only using volume shampoo does catch up!! Justin is great, I just filmed with him last week! Yes, when hair is wet it's most fragile then so it's much much easier to damage. If yourl try out the Prolonger def let me know what you think of it!

So I have been a hair dresser for over 35 years and great advice, except pulling the hair all up at night. This can cause hair thinning because it’s pulling on the scalp all night I think a low pony tail is better or if you have very long hair I braid my in a loose braid down my back.

Good morning Summer! What a perfect time to catch your new video...with my hair in velcro rollers! 🤣 You have taught me SO much since I have found your channel after Gabi mentioned how fabulous you are! You both are my all time favorite beauty youtubers ❤ My question for you is...after blow drying drying, using velcro rollers and using the Voloom(purchased from your recommendation!!) I still don't have the much needed volume at my crown and am wondering what I am doing wrong? The products I use are Redkens volume injection shampoo and conditioner, Redkens big blow out heat protectant on my mids and ends, Pureology leave in conditioner, Moroccanoil root boost(bought from your recommendation!) applied to my roots and lastly Amika plus size mousse (Been waiting for my Moroccanoil volumizing mousse-it's been sold out but will finally receive Monday and to say I'm excited is a understatement!!) My hair is baby fine and growing up in the 80's I LOVE big hair! But my hair doesn't seem to want to cooperate! Any tips on getting more fullness at the crown? Sorry this is so long! Much love to you from Iowa❤
@StylesBySummer
@StylesBySummer Жыл бұрын
Aw so happy to hear that April 🥰. Which Voloom do you have? It is tricky using the Voloom high enough to boost the crown without seeing the texture it creates. I still sometimes will tease that area. What order do you put your root lifter and leave in conditioner? The pureology leave in is so so lovely but it is a bit heavy for baby fine hair, to mine it is at least. I will use that one on my like "rest" from volume days lol and go back and forth between IGK Thirsty Girl and Ouais Leave in as I find those both to be a little lighter.

I have switched over to the Moroccan Products you suggested, loved them at first. Getting a lot of static in my hair, along with my hair looking like a cotton texture after a few days of use. Is it the hair products, velcro rollers or brushes? I cannot seem to figure out what is causing the problem. But, I must say, the Moroccan Hair Spray you suggested is the best I have found to use on my fine hair.
@StylesBySummer
@StylesBySummer Жыл бұрын
It's great right!? I have not ever had an issue with static when using rollers but you're not the first person to have mentioned the static issues. I would start first with washing your brushes an rollers and then remove one product each time from your stylist routine to see if that helps solve the problem if washing the rollers and brushes don't work. To wash those all you need is how soap water and denture or tooth brush!

I love Moroccan Oils Strong Hold Gel amzn.to/3LbNnPa I use just under the size of a dime for my hair. Kenra's Perfect Blowout is nice, it's a little lighter than MO amzn.to/4227k1B Loreal's Transformer Lotion amzn.to/3HjJTcf can be used as blowout paste, if you really work it in your hands, I sort of do a few baby claps(best way I can think to describe it) it gets more of a texture to it and then spread through your hair. Sounds weird but I do like it and it helps with giving hold when used that way.

Dry shampoo is an awesome product but most certainly is not meant for daily use! This is because it can clog our hair follicles when being over used which can lead to hair loss. It's meant to just put off washing your hair for 1-2 days max.

I have fine hair and I let it grow for a year, I just had a trim of a couple of inches off, It's a mid length now. I have some layers in the back that I want to grow out, so I asked them not to cut them. I used to have a messy beachy lob haircut. But now I wish to just have a blunter style. It's quite uneven, at the back like shorter and longer at the front so should I just let them grow out? I like to put my hair behind my ears at the front, so I didn't want a fringe as it takes so long to grow out, I do like them to slant slight at the front, so it blends in, long enough to go behind the ears. My hair is fine and when I use to have a fringe it would get so oily it drove me crazy, I just end up clipping it back. Even with dry shampoo.

Hey Summer! I have an oily head - face, scalp - the whole shebang. And when I combine that with working-out daily, I just do not have the option to go without washing my hair everyday unless I’m hunkered down at home and out of sight haha. I’ve heard all of the “train your hair” guidelines and have tried them - they just don’t work for me. My whole head is one big oil slick (thanks for that dad) and no amount of dry shampoo or texturing spray can revive my hair to be worn down again on day 2 (let alone day 3, 4, etc). What would you recommend for me in terms of hair products or styling techniques?

My game changing shampoo/conditioner for my very very fine hair is Kevin Murphy's Plumping Wash and Conditioner. My hair stylist recently introduced me to a KM mask but I don't recall if it's the Young Again or Angel Mask - she's given me samples b/c it's always sold out at her salon, but it has also helped with hydration and giving my hair strength. All of these products are light and allowed me to move from being a daily washer to now 2-3x a week. I also incorporate dry shampoo and like Ouai and KM dry's.... Question - between washes my super fine hair can sometimes get dry. My stylist turned me on to the KM (yep, there's a theme lol) dry conditioner and it helps tame the hair, but doesn't really add moisture. What do you suggest for adding moisture back to longer hair between washes? Thanks so much for the great tips for us fine hair gals - your hair looks A-MAZING :)
@StylesBySummer
@StylesBySummer Жыл бұрын
Oh man I haven't used KM in so long but your theme with it has me interested! I am currently in the process of trying out different oils for my ends throughout the week when not washing that get the job done for hydration but not to heavy. I've been using the Olaplex 7 for now but it's not exactly hydrating as much as it is strengthening. You may or may not see a video on this specific topic 😄

@@StylesBySummer oooh I will be keen to see that video as well! Right now I use the MoroccanOil light oil on my ends, but even with the light version it needs to be applied sparsely and doesn't always hydrate well enough. I struggle with multiple textures - the very top layer of my hair is fine and unruly, the mid to under layers vary from a nice wave to a not so nice poodle wave - trying to solve for this cacophony of textures is always a challenge!

I simply could not live without my volume mousse and my Velcro rollers! I am curious to try the Voluum, however.

Hi Summer - I can't really comment much on this one - I have very thick wavy hair, so maybe a future video on that would be appreciated 😊 Looking for tips such as products that can help to hydrate - I recently got a balyage and find my hair to be so dry - even with doing a mask once a week. Maybe some other products/tips out there I am not aware of. Thank you 💕

Do you like wearing your hair natural or do you wear it straight? You might need something geared more towards strengthening over moisture if you just had it lightened. Olaplex 0, 3 and 8 are all great to rotate. The 0 and 3 with help to repair and the 8 will balance them out by adding in the moisture. You could also use 6 for when you style your hair as the cost/process of using 0, 3 and 8 is a bit of a commitment.

@@StylesBySummer I normally wear it straight. This is great, thanks so much for this information - I really appreciate it ❣

Hi Summer. I was thinking about getting the Oaui fine Shampoo and Conditioner. But was wondering if it using it twice a week would be too much?

Hey! I started a new channel Summer Beauty www.youtube.com/@SummerBeautyc that will host this type of content and more! Styles by Summer is now strictly a hair cutting tutorial channel. The Oaui Shampoo is great, I find it to be less drying than other fine hair/volume shampoos.

Hi Summer, I'm new to your channel and I was wondering if you could advise me on some drug store brands for blond hair to give me volume and stay. Most of these are way too expensive for me. Thanks

I have VERY fine hair and not a lot of it so I got obsessed with dry shampoo coz it made it look full and thick but in about a year of using it almost daily it messed up my scalp really badly so now I have to use Nizoral to calm it down . So please don't OVERUSE dry shampoo

I'm so sorry to hear that, but thank you for sharing! Dry shampoo is definitely not meant for daily use! I have seen clients over do it and their hair suffered! Hope your hair gets back to normal soon!

Unless you are excessively sweating, dry shampoo will hold you over. I don't recommend using dry shampoo past 2/3 days in a row. By all means, wash when you feel is best but I don't suggest washing every single day.

2 Products I can't live with out is, My Living Proof - Thickening Cream & Dry Volume Blast. So true about letting your hair air dry all the way. I need to let mine air dry for EXACTLY 12 minutes 😑then blow dry. If I blow dry before that, it will be flat as a pancake! If I let it completely dry, UGH!!! Start all over 🤐😂
