Congratulations on the move to NYC! I moved to NYC last year when I was 33 and did so alone (+ my dog) too! I always felt like I was so late to do this, when everyone else was doing these kind of things in their 20's, but moving in my 30's when I had more stability, more money, and more confidence was the best thing I ever did! Please look into tenant rights and laws in NYC! It’s illegal to take more than $20 for an application fee and to require a deposit before signing a lease.

Thank you for sharing your apartment tour! I am single and 33 and this is inspiring and encouraging. Also reading all the comments below here it doesn't seem like it'll be "too late" for me. I want to move to NYC but the last few weeks I was discouraged and scared because I thought I couldn't afford it. You looked for apartments within my price range and are showing me that this is possible and that it's very normal to live in a studio in NYC. In my city for me it'd be a step back if I moved into a studio from a 1 junior bedroom apartment. I also watched your other videos and it makes me proud that I have gotten rid of a lot of things in my apartment already and encourage me to just continuously downsize. Also, every time I want to buy something I'll think twice about it since I'd have to bring it with me to NYC. hahah

#7 with the French doors & interesting room shapes that didn’t have sunlight-if you set up a shelf system in front of those windows without a view, you can add a wall of grow lights & plants making it happy & food producing! Such as lettuce, cooking herbs, and also cheery flowers

Hi!!! New here. I love this video. I love watching apartment hunts!!! I moved out of Manhattan 2/16. I miss my apartment so much!!! It was on W 88th between CPW & Columbus. It was so adorable. 4th floor walk up but so worth it. The reason I left was they were selling the bldg and my dad had just passed. My life was a mess so I moved into my house upstate. It was a 1 bedroom and 2,400. I can’t imagine what it is now! Enjoy your apartment and NYC!!! There’s so much to do!!! Im so happy for you!!!🎉❤

@@TishaShrestha awww. You’re so sweet. Thank you. My dad was actually the super there in his retirement. He retired from there and moved a block over to 89th. I couldn’t bear to think of being there without him so made that quick decision to just go. I’ll be watching to see how you decorate!!! My daughter had 2 apartments in the upper east side before she bought her house in Westchester. I Loved helping her. She actually lucked out that one of the previous tenants left his furniture and moved to Singapore. It was beautiful stuff. NYC is Amazing !!!

This is why rent in NY or anywhere is so expensive, because you have people who are willing to Pay between $2,500-$3,500 for a one bedroom closet. Keep in mind rent increases typically 2-4% in most lease agreements therefore the longer you live there the more the apartment will cost.

Looks like a good space. The only thing for me would be do you have to keep the blinds down on the windows to prevent people from peering in?

Initially that was my hesitation too. I have the privacy screen only on the bottom part of the window. I forgot to mention in the video that the the stoop has a bit of height so I only need privacy screen for the bottom part. Privacy screen diffuses the natural light. In that way, I can keep my windows open during day time and still let the natural light come in. Love the privacy screen! I have the sheer curtains too and in the evening I use my blackout curtains.

I’m surprised with the broker rates from this. Your first apartment buying experience to your second. Which is what I started watching first. A damn good sign that the housing market is about to crash again. With broker fees dropping but rents not rising. It’s more a buyers market than anyone realizes. JS

It’s typically very crowded. I feel like visiting those spots would be fun but living in a heavy foot traffic area while trying to do your daily activities wouldn’t be convenient.

Here is Vegas, we have first month, deposit, which is at least the first month's rent but sometimes double. App fee, pet fee, cleaning fee, key fee. And then, they now want a monthly technology fee, maintenance fee; you pay for everything, trash, water, sewer, gas and electric and often time pet rent. And, prices are similar to what I'm seeing in Manhattan. I won't go for it. I had to do a lot of shopping to find a reasonable landlord. Oh! And no smoking within a 5 mile radius. With all these expenses, you're going to need to be smoking something.

@@TishaShrestha Queens for any type of cultural food you can think of… every single nationality and ethnicity has their own corner in Queens, from Jackson Heigths (lil India), Jamaica , Queens will have you feeling like you’re in Jamaica, Lefferts and Liberty (lil Guyana), Maspeth for Polish food etc. and the list is extensive. Brooklyn’s Pizza and Arts scene is like no other. Coney Island still has amazing hot dogs and is definitely worth the trip. For the city(Manhattan) arguably, the best Halal food you can get anywhere is from the Halal truck in front of the Hilton Hotel at 53rd and 6th Ave. You will know them by the line that wraps around the block. Also check out Ellen’s Stardust diner for Broadway showtunes performed by the servers who are actual performers. You get a B’way caliber show just for the cost of your meal. Now that you’re in NYC, you can forget about the chain pizza spots… you must go to a family owned pizza spot. You’ll never go back to those other guys. Staten Island has a spot called Enoteca Maria. The food is cooked by grandmothers - nonnas. And the SI zoo is really, really cool. Very different from the more famous Bronx zoo, but equally as magical. The Bronx houses one of NYC’s best kept secret gardens- it’s called Wave Hill. NY’ers iykyk. I know I talked mostly about food, but you seem to be handling the shelter situation, and everyone knows NYC is where it’s at for shopping- so you’ll be ok for clothing as well. 🤣🤣 A lil shopping insider tip though, for the pricey stuff, many of us cross the River to Jersey to avoid the 8.875% sales tax. Clothing is tax free in NJ, so check out American Dream or Short Hills mall if you like designer rtw. Keep in mind though, NJ saves you money but NYC will offer you much more volume and variety, because we’ve got so many shops here. Honorary mention to Long Island (though it’s not NYC)- check out Hirshleifers in Manhasset and Steven Dann in Great Neck for luxe shopping ( I often find stuff there I don’t see in the city boutiques). We also head out the island a lot in the summer for the beaches. The more East you go, the better the beaches get. Finally, NYC runs on “bodegas”- the local “corner stores”/ convenience stores you’ll see on every block. They are the only place we can go get a toasted bagel with cream cheese, shampoo, cigs, dishwashing liquid, prayer candles, coffee, batteries, clothes hangers and a “hero” sandwich at 3 o’clock in the morning because you just realized you ran out of stuff and we are the city that never sleeps🤣🤣. Have fun getting to know your new home luv ❤️

I do need to eat other diverse cuisines available in Queens as well. Love Halal guys too!! I stayed at my sisters place in Brooklyn for abit but didn’t explore much. I moved from downtown Jersey City and i didn’t even think about the sales tax. I still go to JC on a weekly basis so thank you 🙏🏽. Really appreciate you giving recommendation/tips outside of the city as well because I do want to explore not just the city ♥️♥️♥️

I grew up in NYC. I would never go back there to live. Too dirty, noisy, stressful, dangerous, cold, expensive, rats, roaches, expensive, crowded, parking issues, and did I mention EXPENSIVE?!! Yeah, glad I left. But to each their own. Everyone should try to live out their dream of living there, someday wake up from that dream and realize it's not all that.

Last 1 and 1/2 month was really stressful and hectic with selling all my furniture, moving to the city and then had bunch of issues with the new apartment (will be part of the vlogs). Are you pranking us by rating the apartment with the shower in the kitchen so high??? & kitchen just don't go together... Your sister was right, she should have even given that extra point after, I think you talked her into it... I don't understand what you liked about this place, once you saw shower and toilet it should have been "gonzo". Most new houses and apartments in certain parts of Canada have the Japanese squirter toilets, and if they don't you can request them. Or buy the toilet seat with the contraption in or or better yet pay to have the whole toilet replaced. The seat replacement is about $100 to 200 dollars. The complete toilet is a little more expensive. I don't know if the States has adopted that yet, I imagine the more expensive new condos have them, but from the tours I've watched a lot of them don't. Even the highly overprice condos. Let's hope its gets adopted soon. These builders just don't want to spend the money. It's just so much more hygienic.

Anyone else here watching from Belgium and thinking Americans apparently earn waaaaaay more money than Europeans??? You say you annualy have to earn 80 times monthly rent of 2200 dollars (nearly my whole paycheck. Well not really nearly but still, would not be able to afford 2200 rent per month). I don't even have half of that and what I earn here in Belgium is even considered not bad (of course there are people who earn way more, but I think I'm considered a good middle ground here in Belgium). I mean, I just bought a newly built 2 bedroom appartment and paying off 1200 euro per month with only 35000 euro downpayment 🤷🏼‍♀️
