His name is Alagorth. Pure of heart, and the smallest of his 18 siblings. Is he the last survivor of his species? Maybe he has been exiled. I'm getting wanderer, or forlorn traveler from him. The pipes on his armor could be something to acclimatize him on his interplanetary/interstellar travels. His gear should be: - a spear, mostly ceremonial but functional. -A knife, probably made from the bone of a space whale. -a tube [looks like an ancient scroll...what's inside it?!] -a plasma gun or rifle These are just suggestions of course, but man, I'm excited to see where you take it!

Longer videos are great, I'm always trying to pick up new ideas and techniques. :D A huge gun/weapon would be pretty cool, maybe resting it on his shoulder? What about a small pet/floating robot/side-kick for him as he stands over some digital crystal caves. Just throwing some ideas out there. :D

I love how you didn't bother about fingers or feet or facial expression in the initial stages. There's so much one gets to learn in these Real Time videos, specially the thinking process and decision making, backtracking, how you envision something, how you fix things, how shapes are formed and how values help the early form and depth, how you sometimes let instincts direct while working roughly. It's a great learning experience. Thank you so much for this and thank you for narrating throughout while working.

I've watched a couple of these videos and tbh I really love this style. The starting with a much messier almost random mess that slowly turns into something way more refined is such a new but amazing process. It's impressive how much it's changed how I do things. I really love seeing this kind of start to finish work.

Hey, Dave! Can you maybe go over in another Q&A any books or resources you would recommend for concept art from beginner to intermediate? Any resources related to tips or how the flow of concepting goes? Looking to find other resources for practice outside of school :D

Appreciate the simple straight-forward video focused on design and process as opposed to flashy techniques with cuts to jokes/memes and other nonsense that's plastered all over KZbin. Looking forward to more! Regarding feedback I'd be interested in a more dynamic silhouette.

Hello Dave! I am a big fan of your work! I wanted to thank you for sharing your brushes, since I am pretty bad at making my own. I tried so many and I was getting frustrated that I couldnt find something similar to what I use in SAI. I fell in love with your dg_main brush (and not only). You literally changed my whole photoshop experience, now I can paint everything in PS without feeling uncomfortable, thank so much

To me, this part is the part where I fail. Most of the time I start with a finished line-art (I draw most of it with ballpoint) and trying to adapt to digital drawing/painting is difficult. Every drawing I do ends up being a 2D thing and not so much a painting. Your videos are helping me to try and get out of that routine, thanks a mill.

heyy, new in the channel, just subscribed because of this video :D its so cool the way you come out with ideas and u say it out loud for us to get what you're doing :D. Any way, in my head it is going more like a lion fused with a bat maybe idk xDD thats what his face looks to me. About the clothes, the tube thing is nice, and also all the tubes could end up in the same place, where it could be some sort of power cell or something. Also, maybe he could have that huge glove in 1 arm, and the other arm could be like a big claw. That's my opinion, hope you like it hehe

So let me ask do you normally do any brain storming before a piece? I mean when you aren't constrained by an art director do you ever go into a piece thinking hey you know what I want to draw a barbarian woman or a troll technomancer or something like that? or is it always I'm going to draw what the shapes look like they want me to draw?

i get the vibe of a rat person that's highly into technological stuff, maybe all that chewing on wires gave them an innate sense for wiring and electricity based machinery, background maybe a treasure hunter because rats like shiny things. anyways, i find it nice to check out other artists processes, especially the kind of loose beginnings that gets tighter and more refined as it progress. i'll try and catch the livestreams if i can. also thanks for showing us this stuff.

you ever look up at like a textured ceiling or a cloud, and you can see faces and animals or whatever in them? try that shit out with your art, make some big shapes, values, see where it takes you. Mike May will do that sometimes and just find things, it's pretty fun, simple, and you're still learning from it, might come up with something you've never drawn before but it can come out pretty nice.

I think it's possible because he has done it a lot. :D Also wondering because he didn't even do any thumbnails or exploration sketches, just went straight into the design. That is quite impressive but you see this a lot with pros.

Is it concept art? Personally I can't imagine concept art without bunch of references, backstory, lots of sketches or variations. For me this is digitial illustration, more marketing art, not concept art. Looks awesome but does not fill concept art definition imo. I gave thumb up ;)
@DaveGreco6 жыл бұрын
Alot of the time designers need something fast.. and they don't doc up everything.. and you have to start right away. I will start this exact same way... get their eyes on it midday.. get some feedback (like we did after this vid).. then roll into a final. All this in 2 days before starting the next. SO it's more of a real world concept example then you may think.

But when working for a client, don't you have set parameters that you need to follow for the design that the character should work with? Rather than the other way around?. And also from what I can see there's just the one character, for a concept and client, won't you have to create multiple to see what works the best rather than just landing on the first design? I really like that you're showing the process from such and early stage and I hope that it goes all the way to final & I've really wanted to get into understanding how to stylize concepts more as it's something I'm working on at the moment

It's kind of simple, as you see in this video. Just practise yourself doing lines straight and draw circles and ellipses.
