Yeah, not to say it looks bad, but It doesn’t look centered, which doesn’t make it perfect which perfectly resembles the theme, because back in the day, everything was really imperfect. Like film, it would get stains all over the place which made it imperfect. Or like Vinyl, it wasn’t perfect because sometimes it would crackle which would make the music sound bad

I'd love to see you do a review/recommendation of record players at several price points, as well as amplifiers. I want this advice from someone who actually spins vinyl, not some "audiophile" hopping to trend after trend.

I love my Onzow: Zerodust! A little bit more than the Focusound you can buy them for about $40 online. You can pull the top off does a great job of getting all the dust that piles up after a couple plays. Keep up the great content!!

My stylus cleaner is a toothpick pushed into a small piece of magic eraser. Costs about 10c
@crunchyfrog5554 жыл бұрын
I have severe reservations about melamine based magic eraser. You likely won't hurt the tip but you can easily damage the style mounting. I'd like to see some long term microscopy of this use.
@crazyprayingmantis55964 жыл бұрын
@@crunchyfrog555 I'd say if any damage did occur, by the time it happened the stylus would had run up it's hours anyway.
@crunchyfrog5554 жыл бұрын
@@crazyprayingmantis5596 You may be right. I just tend to err WELL on the side of caution on these things. Melamine isn't something I'd have within an inch of a stylus as it's a mild abrasive.

I’ve used the Onzow Zerodust for several years and it does an excellent job in keeping the stylus clean. The Focusound looks like a less expensive copy. The Zerodust has your concerns covered with a detachable, domed lid.

And even cheaper is Moongel drum dampener, which is essentially the same stuff but at a fraction of the cost, a few bucks.

@@citroen2cvnz Because of you I am buying this right now on Amazon. I knew this tacky stuff was way overpriced. It reminds me of the stuff on those washable lint rollers, it's nothing magical. Looks like on Amazon it goes under the name "Moongel Resonance Pads". Thanks Cliff

The white color of the polymer is unique and should be mentioned as it is easier to see the contamination. Mine is clear.

I use an Onzow Dustbuster between every side. Same concept. I keep my records very clean and it's amazing how much gunk the Onzow pulls off the stylus.

Onzow offer one of these; the lid lifts right off (instead of being hinged), and it also contains the magnifying glass, so you have one item to keep track of instead of two. It works great.

I've had one of these polymer based cleaners for about 13 years or so. Mine's made by a company called Onzow. I still use the same one, and it still does it's job well (obviously I keep an eye on it with a microscope). They are truly fabulous. They do the job well and keep doing it and last seemingly forever. Does it leave dirt elswhere on the stylus frame? Sure, but it doesn't touch playback. In short, it works really well and continues to do so.

For the longest time I used an AKG PL 10 stylus alignment tool that came with a bit of polymer stuck to it for stylus cleaning, but after 20 or so years, it became a bit too sticky and I started to fear it might pull the needle out *lol*. So i sent for an Audio-Technica AT617a which is one of those polymers with a flat surface and a screw on top you can remove completely. I still kinda miss the stickier AKG version, cause sometimes with the Audio-Technica version, I wonder if it's really cleaning as well as it should, which it probably does ^^; Oh yeah, and a tiny carbon brush for pre cleaning is there too.

I use the same brush you showed but I don’t use any liquid as this can soften the glue holding the Stylus tip and I also use the gel type cleaning pad you showed my brand is D.S Audio, Audiophiles rule 🤣

I think the reason you don’t like the attached top is because there is a chance that it might accidentally come down on the stylus while cleaning it, possibly ruining the stylus. I use the Onzow Zerodust myself, It comes with a detachable lid, magnifier on the lid and as far as I can tell, it doesn’t smush the polymer. But it’s also more expensive. So my advice would be, if you’re careful, this product seems to do the job. But if you’re antsy about breaking the stylus, then I recommend getting a gel cleaner like this that has a removable lid, even if you have to pay more for it (bottom line: how much are your records worth to you? That will determine whether you buy any stylus cleaner or not) And BTW-Overall, I wouldn’t be overly concerned about what’s left on top of the stylus after using this. It doesn’t affect playback, and often falls off on its own anyway. Then it’s easy to clean!!!

This is certainly cheaper than the Onzow Zerodust... apparently this is what you should mainly use but say once every couple weeks you should use a brush with some cleaning fluid.

sounds crazy but I use a small bit of blutak, gently lower your stylus into it so not all the weight is concentrated on the stylus and then pull it out slowly, has been working for me for a few years now, absolutely swear by it.

Polymers can leach chemicals. The question is does this or similar products. With no hard evidence about what chemicals the polymer cleaner may transfer to the stylus I will stay with a carbon fibre stylus brush. Can't leach sticky chemicals onto my stylus which could cause it to attach more dust.
