Visiting friends in Austria is always a highlight of the year. This year it included many visits to the Austrian mountains - visiting a rustic cabin hut and hiking three mountain peaks - each over 1800 meters.
The itinerary and mountain hike time marks:
(00:37) The Schlangenweg Trail. This was the first hike, stopping as we traveled from Vienna at the border between Lower Austria and Styria. The trail started at Preiner Gscheid to Karl Ludwig Haus. It is approximately 12 km (5 hours) round trip.
(02:00) The "Cabin Hut" - where we spent the day mushroom hunting.
(03:34) The second hike was the Waldheimhutte Trail Loop. The beginning of the trail is located near the village of Sankt Anna climbing to Zirbitzkogel and returning via Lavant Lake in Styria. Approximately 14 km (6 hours).
(05:40) The last hike was part of the Hochreichart trail, taking the Feistererhorn branch to the peak. The first day was approximately 7 km to Hochreichart Schutzhaus where we spent the night. The next day we hiked to the peak then returned all the way to the car for an additional 14 km of walking.
My apologies as I didn't record the walks on Wikiloc.
Thank you to the wonderful Austrian family - whom I have come to consider family - for their planning of this adventure and for their gracious hospitality.
