My favourite stadium concertvideo.
Thx Styx & recorders & traders !
Not released epic concertmovie with many legendary moments, unfortunately source is (Pro-shot) VHS rip DVD with glitches. My Diamond Heart version video little better, sound is very better.
Best visuality is: HD resolution, fullscreened and you see 2-3 meter from monitor
in dark room ! (VHS quality - NO WONDER) Fortunately :) human eye is not eagle eye, when looking at a distance, disappear many glitches of video. Human eye and perception concentrated to colours and light contrast AND conception of Styx concert this is (DARK and LIGHTS and COLOURS with show and theatratical elements). (sorry my english)
Video:
- NTSC colors balanced to PAL, enhanced colors
- Dark-Light range wide
- cropping, medium video-noise reduction
Sound:
- recorded source is contains some very BIG noise peaks and his has led to varying levels of completely sound recording - fixed
- vocal range and above strong balanced
- light hiss reduction, totally re-normalized

I've always love "Paradise Theater / Return to Paradise" and "The Grand Illusion" albums.... It's a toss-up for me to pick which was better. Wish I could have seen them at that point in time, esp while Dennis DeYoung was still with Styx. I only got to go to one of their concerts in the mid-90's. I'd have loved to have seen them all though! Glad they did a huge concert that played on PBS, along with a Children's/Youth choir. It was pretty good for a TV Concert.

One thing I thank my lucky stars for was seeing them this tour at Vancouver's Pacific Coliseum July '81 as a 16 year old. I'd say John was underrated. He was a better drummer than he got credit for (although he did make the cover of _Modern Drummer_ magazine). Chuck was not a particularly inventive bassist. He played some cool parts on the early albums, and a noticeable line here and there after that. He got the job done, but I don't think the word underrated applies to him.

In 1981 I snuck out of my God fearing rock and roll hating parents house at the age of 15 to see the Seattle show. My first concert and i fought my way to the front wall. And because my neighbors dad was very cool and dropped me at the show and gave me a cover story, my life changed forever. Live music is almost the only thing that matters.

@Terrence's Classic Rock Corner Podcast Dennis drank, not as bad as John, but he did at least through Cornerstone. Yes, many individuals abstained from Coke, but then they usually drank or were on uppers or smoked weed and Quaaludes were also popular. Not everyone’s DOC was the same, but that time period was a time when radio ruled, Payola was rife, and the shit was literally on the tables. I worked rock radio in some of the biggest markets. I could tell you some stories.

I was also at this Moncton show. My favorite concert. No opening act. Before the band started playing, they had a guy (dressed like a janitor) sweeping the stage as part of the show. A lot of people there (not me) started booing because they felt it was taking too long for the band to start. But once they did, everything was fine. I was standing on the floor about 10 people back from the front. When the curtain comes down near the end, you can see the silhouettes of the band (except Dennis) who was on the left side away from the curtain. As the music came down to just Dennis playing, lights faded out behind the curtain and lights did the opposite in front of the curtain (making it seem like the rest of the band vanished). In person, this effect was more awesome than can be seen here

It's simple, Styx wants to be and is a rock band while Dennis wants to prance about the stage like he's in the Pirates of Penzance. He doesn't want to be in a rock band he wants to be on Broadway in a musical. Styx is a rock band period, not a Broadway musical end of story. I don't miss him, not a bit. I'm there to see Styx the rock band not some Mr. Roboto Japanese musical nonsense.

While I wasn't at this show, I was at the one in Des Moines, Iowa a few months later. Still to this day, this concert is one of my all time top five ones. The irony is the next time I saw them for the Kilroy Was Here Tour, that was one of the worst. We didn't know it of course, but that's when the tensions between Dennis and Tommy and J.Y. were at a height. Still one of the best-ever groups.

The only thing I didn't like about the Paradise Theater show was the wonky mustache light. It may not actually be a mustache light, but god damn it sure looks like a mustache. I still think its cheesy every time I see it. But Styx was one of the great bands of the era. Right up there with Queen, Heart, The Eagles, Kansas, and Boston. The best Era for actual singing groups there ever was.

This Was The Paradise Theater Tour At The Capital Centre Back In 1981 Just 2 Years Before Mr. Roboto, From The Album, Kilroy Was Here. All Those Years That I Had Styx's Caught In The Act Live Video, I Never Knew That Tommy Shaw Hated The Kilroy Was Here Album And Tour Until After I Watched Styx On VH1's Behind The Music. Styx's Tour Manager Remembered Back In January, 1982 When They Were Only Having A 2 Day Tour In Japan To Completely Finish The Paradise Theater Tour, He Remembered Tommy Entering His Room And Finally Put His Foot Down And Said, Let's Not Have Another Concept Album. I Want Straight Up Rock & Roll. But It Was Too Late. Dennis DeYoung Had Already Came Up With A Plan. Which Was Kilroy Was Here Album And Story. And When Styx Returned To The U.S. DeYoung Came Home And Watched A PBS Commercial Watching The Weird Machines Running. And When The Lights Went Out, The Machines Kept Running. And That Freaked Him Out. So He Came Up With Domo Arigato, Mr. Roboto. Then Styx Did A 14 Minute Movie. (Which Was The Kilroy Was Here Movie.) But He Noticed There Was Something Missing. "There's A Song That's Got To Go Along With That 14 Minute Movie." He Thought. So He Wrote Mr. Roboto, Which Became A Big Hit In 1983. But He Didn't Intend It To Become A First Hit Single. Styx's First Hit Single Was Gonna Be Don't Let It End. I Remember DeYoung Talking About It On His Behind The Vinyl Interview.
