I saw Styx in my HS Gymnasium (Mother Guerin) River Grove, suburb of Chicago in the mid 70s and caught a drumstick John Panozzo threw out to the audience that I treasured for many decades thereafter. ❤❤

I seen them twice once in Johnstown PA and once in Pittsburgh PA. Awesome group always was always will be. This bar far is my favorite song in the whole world. I got hit by one of Tommy's picks at the Johnstown concert. I knew right away what it was I yelled to my daughter quick turn the light on your phone and there it was. I now have it framed Next a set of concert used drumsticks signed by one of the best drummers in the world Todd Sucherman!!!

Lawrence Gowen was probably the best possible replacement for Dennis DeYoung, BUT he can't replace him. NOBODY could sing this song like Dennis live in concert. When he would say "You're Turn" and the crowd would sing "Carry On", such a powerful LIVE moment that would send chills up your spine 😉

@@travischeer2 I changed his name to Lawrence Gowen on my message, DUMMY me. Luckily they had an edit button 🤣 The dude's always been a solid fill in, but he's a far cry from Dennis. I have seen Styx with Lawrence, I don't hate the guy. I have also seen Dennis live doing his own thing. Both shows work, BUT NOTHING like the original, that's for sure.
@mr.mikeyg.52825 ай бұрын
There’s no replacing Dennis. They shouldn’t try to cover his vocal songs. Styx has a full catalog of other songs they can do.
@charliec56535 ай бұрын
It's up to them what songs they do. Lawrence Gowan does a great job singing them. It's not like Styx was Dennis' band, it was formed by Chuck and Jon Panazzo. Dennis tried taking over the band. He also didn't want the band to continue without him. We all know how that went.
@ricksegal30655 ай бұрын
True, but they hate Dennis so much yet they sing the song he wrote and is their best selling song of all time. Sorry, but this is his song. Can't have it both ways. By the way, I do love the current Styx as well and fan forever.@@charliec5653

If they didn't perform Dennis' songs it would be a very short, boring concert. JY and Tommy are not good people. Current Styx is just a cover band with bad botox

When most old bands play songs from a new album, i roll my eyes. In Styx case, i ONLY want them to play THE MISSION in its entirety, and deep album cuts like Castle Walls, Born For Adventure. The Mission is the best album they EVER did. Never thought they would top GI or Equinox, especially in their latter days

My very first rock concert was Styx's Kilroy Was Here Tour in 1983. I was 14. My mom let me go with my friend, also 14, and his older sister who was like 23 at the time. My mom thought the sister would be responsible for us minors at the concert. So we went, and my friend's sister hooked up with her boyfriend and they had different seats, and left us on our own. It was an amazing concert. After the show, we could not find my friend's sister, and walked around the venue for about 1 hour or so, until we found my friend sister, who was quite drunk with her boyfriend, also wasted. He drove himself away, but the sister was too drunk to even get behind the wheel. My friend was a lot bigger and looked older, so he took it upon himself to drive us home. He did like 55 on the freeway LOL. Good times and memories

DENNIS Left STYX and went on his own. Dennis was always signed for the Annual "Rib America Festival" in ST. Louis, MO every year. Let me describe Dennis's band selection and quality of the show. AWESOME !! like I got in a time machine and went back in time to there peak. The passion and quality in Dennis DeYoungs voice was almost tear Jenkins 😢 it was so perfect ! His band members where a dream team quality. The guy who replaced Tommy Shaw was his visual and vocal twin... But the set selection was superior...Lady, Come Sail Away, Wanted man, Babe, Grand Illusion, Mr. ROBOTO and on and on...Dennis talked about his life of sobriety, never drank or drugged. Thats why he looks so young and his voice is as strong as ever. He stil does shows now and then just Google it you'll find one of his shows. We where all so blessed to grow up in this time period and get to see all of these incredible bands. Thank you God !!! I loved them all.

I recall hearing that Larry Gowan opened for Styx at a show in Montreal (probably the tour before they broke up.) Solo, just himself and his spinning keyboard. The band couldn’t believe one guy was going play in front of them and then watched this guy they had never heard of work the crowd like a master. When the rest of the band parted ways with Dennis the first guy they thought of to take his place was Gowan. I think it’s been like 25 years now.

I'm a big Gowan fan (his solo music) but anytime an iconic band (like Styx) gets a replacement singer it just has that cover band feel. Same with Journey and Foreigner. And there's some bands that have that same cover band vibe when other irreplaceable members are gone. Like KISS and The Rolling Stones.

He's a little like me. You can see it! He's moving the camera well. He's got good shots. He's stable. He's a little like me. I remember playing this on the radio. When it came out.. It was Great! My request lines would light up for it. As I was working for Baltimore's #1 Album Rock Station. Back in the mid-1970s. Nearly 50 years ago. Oh my God where has the time gone!? I still feel like I'm 25! But my body is telling me, Schmuck! You are 68! Stop it! Sit down! Before you hurt yourself! Oh right? I'm 68 not 25. I forgot. Yes this certainly takes me back to my youth. And when these guys were also in their 20s. It almost feels like yesterday! Yeah baby! Great job on this video my friend! I know you and I came from the same place.. RemyRAD

If not for the tone deaf front of house operator they sounded great. All we could hear well was kick drum. It was sad that this fantastic band was cuffed by a sound person who apparently learned their idea of good sound through their car stereo with massive subwoofers. Sorry for the rant, but when there wasn’t any kick drum going, they sounded fantastic.
