First concert I ever saw. I couldn't believe how LOUD it was. What an era of live music. I had the LP with the laser etching that had the ornate theater design that reflected a million colors when the light hit it just right, if anyone remembers that detail.

Young Music Show! I watched this program on NHK many moons ago (OMG, 29 years ago. )I bought an album straight after, and longed to see them but never had a chance until now. I'm going to see them in Manchester this June, so excited ! My only wish is DDY and JY,TS to reconcile ...

Styx was a great band - saw them around this time in London, England. Paradise Theatre is one of the all time greats. Dennis is really talented and JY and Tommy are 2 of the best guitarists you'll ever see playing together.
This is the Styx I remember and love. I saw them in concert last night in Syracuse and they were great, but it's just not the same.

I saw this concert! Back when you bought a ticket and the radio stations hung around and threw out T-shirts and silk screened stickers you could put in your photo album with your concert tickets! I'm with Jeffmonicon, STYX ROCKS!!! Dennis DeYoung was a visionary! I am so glad I had the opportunity to grow up in the 70's. Before "Bum" and "North Pole" T-shirts when we were INDIVIDUALS!

This is my favorite opening! Thank you so much! The old man cleaning guy reminded me of someone leaning on his broom from time to time thinking how great the place was in its heyday. So when Dennis DeYoung went home, and found out the place was closed, he tried to reopen it, but I don't remember if he was successful or not

LOL yeah. Im not exactly the same as in 82 either. Gotta respect for them for being able to perform at all. And I know you do. As do I. Time is the fire in which we burn, eh? :D I still remember seeing them 81 and it was an event singular in my concert going. :D

Life is too short to have friends bickering. They should resolve their issues and reunite. They could still be a force to be reckoned with, and I'd love to hear at least one more album with Chuck, Tommy JY and Dennis.

Watch this and follow it with the same song from the 96 Return to Paradise DVD - it's amazing how much better they were 14 years later. Dennis DeYoung had toured with Jesus Christ Superstar and had worked with a vocal coach - Tommy had been in Damn Yankees, etc... they were all even better (and sober) musicians, singers and performers.

@@DealioTV They can afford it..Besides both acts are playing medium arenas. Dennis De Young and the music of Styx is killer. imho He is Styx. I have always been a JY the rocker fan. Seriously, the vocals is lacking. Dennis still has the Styx Voice. I worked Roanoke civic center. Hundreds of shows came through at that time. Saw Styx 2 or 3x there You had to see this band live to really appreciate them. Last show was Kilroy. Sold out crowd was enthralled. We had never seen anything like this. Very entertaining show. Everyone loved Kilroy. 10k strong. The only R&R band to ever have 4DP records in a row. Kilroy was Platinum. Still no HOF

shakenama - Nice... didn't know you could test out of HS early. Good for you. What part of CA? I lived in Sacramento for about a year in '84. Minnesota - still there? I'm in NJ. Re that Boston show I saw - I actually found an audio copy from an online Boston concert collector. So now I have a copy of my very fist concert - a rare thing for those of us from the very pre-Internet age.

Styx toured as "Styx" without Dennis DeYoung, who got the boot. ELO toured as "ELO" without Jeff Lynne, who got the boot. Of all those great groups of that era, only the members of Queen recognized that the genius behind the group couldn't be adequately replaced, no matter how brilliant the members. I can't fathom Styx without DeYoung, or ELO without Lynne. I'm learning to accept Queen without Mercury....

I have vinyl I collected back then from Deep Purple Rush Ozzy Queen Styx Jouney Ramones Clash DK all of that. incl Van Halen! most punks I knew listened to a lot of diff stuff; today's poseurs think punk is about being stuck up and fascist about their fave bands. punk rock is about being OPEN minded. the only real battle is in your mind.
