I remember some players having a small GAZ-AAA in the woods as forward observer and then using manual artillery to bomb an enemy airfield.. fun times.

It would be nice, but the problem is that all the maps were designed for air combat, so the level of detail on the ground isn't as good as in Arma.

@@Nickboy99_YT Even AI infantry would go a long way. It's why Steel Fury is still to this day one of the best tank sims, as it's one of the few that has infantry that can actually affect the fight.

Yeah. I wish, man... Arma is cool (amazing in fact, though specially with a couple mods - e.g. Project Injury Reaction makes infantry combat feel a lot more immersive, and Zeus Enhanced shud also just be vanilla for example, just to name a few) but the vehicle physics is minimalistic compared to Il-2 at best. Then again it's already better than average in its own regard... But yeah. Il-2 would be amazing ae a combined arms simulator, but first the devs would have to overhaul the maps with more detail... Cuz well... For a flightsim the terrain is cool but for tanks it's a little barren. Of course today's hardware is a limiting factor in this. I'm lowkey hoping Il-2 Korea gets to become a combined arms warfare simulator, now that they've announced walking on the ground. And I also kinda hope its features (and the apparently promised new engine that's supposedly better) get carried over eventually to Great Battles too.

The standalone game "Iron front Liberation 1942" is a hidden gem(with little buggy planned missions) among games with penetration simulation and advanced damage simulation (damaged track rollers,tracks, complete turret falling off....) and works under Arma2 when you convert to IFA2 MOD with a converter,yes movable switches and 3d interior spaces of Il2 are not included in arma, some tanks have 3d space but only decoration ,not very detailed working turret mechanisms inside

OUTSTANDING! 1) Luv the самоходная установка skin: it looks very realistic with the weathering and shaded panel lines; artistic as well, which the early patterns could be, as their crews - literally - put their hearts and souls into their "baby". I like how U said "I can take the SU-122 out and ..." as tho it was a favorite vintage car in ur garage. 2) Luv'd ur use and explanation of the sighting and ranging equipment. First time I saw that very complex dial mechanism inside I not only marveled at the skill that went into building it - both in the prototype and the sim - but also knew I needed to know more. And never noticed the bubble level before! 3) ? Were U situating SU near trees so that it would be at least partially obscured from detection and immediate counter-battery fire? 4) I hope you can do some more indirect fire missions, including utilization and explanation of the sights. I could have watched the entire 15 rounds and how U distributed the rounds in the target area. Thanks!

I chose that location because it's the only spot within range where I can locate myself on the map (there are no markers so you have to navigate yourself). Besides, I didn't have to worry about getting detected since I was too far out lol Yeah, I'll probably make some more videos like this sometime in the future. Glad you enjoyed this one!

It'll be a lot more efficient to have another guy fly over the target and help guide your shots Edit: I just saw the end where you said it's better to have a friendly plane help guide your shots XD

You can use commander interface (the one activated by press tilda) for indirect fire in SPGs, there you can set angle and range, and command gunner to start or stop firing.

Nice job! How are you calculating the gun's angle? I tried replicating this in quick mission on arty at 3000 meters. Put in the range, setup the level, tank facing correct azimuth, but when I watched the replay, no rounds landed in the area. I'm assuming my barrel is too low or too high but not finding much on that.

Well, it seems like you're doing everything correctly (assuming you set the correct range). Perhaps you're not aiming the crosshair at your target? In the video, the target covered a large area, and the terrain was super flat, so it was quite easy to accurately set my crosshairs on them. On uneven or hilly terrain, you'd have to compensate for it and slightly readjust your sight. Another factor could be the wind. Maybe you have the wind set to max?
