If you want it to be more accurate you just do ALT + Mouse 1 again to lock a certain part of the ground and the shells will hit what you aim for

I'm sure you already know but you can select your primary which is your guns and cannons to fire them separately like your secondary weapons it's in key bindings

You'll need to enable "Mouse Look Activation" in the common view/camera controls and the different bindings for activating and deactivating target points in the weaponry aircraft controls.
