Just began my senior year of high school in north Tucson (CDO) and every time I heard this song.....which was...a TON back then you'll remember.....it made me just want a girlfriend SO BADLY. But it didn't happen then. 5 years later....in '77, married the woman who JUST CELEBRATED 47 YRS. Of MARRIAGE TO ME this week. This song will always.....always.....buckle my knees. Back in the seventies I met Guillermo (Jorge) Santana. My brother-in-law was in a rock group and he either knew Jorge or he just met him, I'm not sure but he invited Jorge and another member of Malo to my mother in laws home for dinner. I was invited as well. I even remember what she cooked for dinner. Fideo with fried potatoes and beans and a homemade salsa. I am sure Jorge enjoyed the meal. I just remember I was in awe of him because of his song Suavecito and of course being Carlos's brother. It was a very cool encounter.

Love the inspiration behind the writing of the song, and I like how Richard said that the girl he wrote it for has no idea that she is the subject…..VERY COOL! I immediately liked this song when it came out in the Spring of’72 which was my Junior year of high school.

Love the song, great arrangement, and Richard presents it great to the crowd. Performed very good for being outside as well. A song many people can relate to as well. Rhythm drives it catchy and very tasteful to the listener. Great Richard! We still love it.

This song reminds me of my 7th grade crush who mocked me for being fat. Several years later in between classes at ELAC, I ran into her at the nearby McDonald’s. I saw her drive in and our eyes locked in recognition. She exited her car with three kids in tow and the saddle bags to show for it. I was 147 pounds of hard man flesh and muscle. I guess the revenge was mine.

I find it interesting 🤔,,, this song means a lot to me as having grown up in Mexico City. It's odd,,, how when I graduated from college in the mid I had several interviews where I was turned down for being Mexican,,,they wouldn't tell me to my face, but I knew that was the reason. And now years later I look at these donut face gringos, trying to be hip and soaking up all the Latin rhythms.
