A quick hint for France - if you see a place with s/ it stands for "sur" which means on. The equivalent of Stoke-on-Trent for example. It doesn't specifically mean it will be on a river, but this might help with finding villages around France.

“SR 312” in Florida (and some other states) is short for “State Route 312” to distinguish it from a U.S. highway number, or a county road number. In Google Maps, U.S routes will be in the white shield (the fancy looking one), State routes will be in circle/ovals, and county roads will be in rectangles. Helps the scanning eyes work quicker on U.S. maps. Hope this helps someone!
@InternetKilledTV21 Жыл бұрын
I wonder how the dynamic would change if Google were to finally implement state-specific shields like they have in Waze, as well as Apple Maps. It's one of the biggest cons imo, especially in Virginia.

a small tip for town signs/names in France (maybe you already know it but in case you dont): SUR (abbreviated to s/) means above, and SOUS (abbreviated to /s) means bellow. these are almost always with reference to a river name. e.g. in the first location SUCE SUR ERDRE it can sometimes be faster to look for the river ERDRE first and the look for the town SUCE SUR ERDRE that should lie "above" the river ERDRE!

It always baffles me how you (and many other GeoGuessr creators) don't put down rough pins until very late in the game. I always click where I'm guessing, so starting at country level and then down to region, down to town, down to roughly the area in the town. It helps me keep anchored to something, otherwise I very quickly feel like I am lost. In the example here, I would've just clicked somewhere on the D178 as soon as I found that, just to lock that in in my mind.

hey Tom, great effort and great video! I think it's definitely possible to do under 10 minutes in this format if you - are good at the game (which you obviously are) - get 5 doable / pinpointable rounds. one bad round like just a long straight with no buildings or junctions nearby or some road in the middle of nowhere can completely screw you over. - probably play a fair share of games - maybe risk a bit on certain guesses good luck on it!

In the U.S. the “SR” in the numbered road name usually means “State Road”. There is the interstate road system with “I” followed by the number, and then the state road systems, often starting with “SR” on the green street signs.
@andyd9116 Жыл бұрын
Regarding the SR in round 4: The US uses a system that consists of four major types of roadways generally: 1) Interstate highways which are long, large roadways that can travel across the length of the country. These are managed by the federal government and labeled with an I (e.g. I-75) 2) US routes which cover a region, generally a few states. These are managed by local and state governments and labeled with a US (e.g. US-66) 3) State routes which traverse large parts of individual states, managed by said state(s). These are generally labeled SR or sometimes with the state’s abbreviation (e.g SR-3 in Alabama or LA-1 in Louisiana) 4) County routes which span one or more counties inside a state, managed by the county government. Usually these are abbreviated with a CR or the county initials (e.g. CR-J7 in California or CC-215, part of the Las Vegas beltway in Nevada, CC standing for Clark County)

FYI GeoWizard - "SR-312" means "State Route 312." These can also be labelled as - for example - "FL-312" for "Florida (route) 312." State Routes are usually highways, but not as limited access as proper Interstates. Each state has its own funny state route sign, often with the shape of the state itself somehow incorporated except for Pennsylvania where we - the Keystone State - use a keystone symbol :)
@seananon4893 Жыл бұрын
