Good work breaking on the branding taboo. Different things work for different people, glad to hear a voice of experience come forth.

Amazing video! Your "Get UL With Neemor" videos have been a humongous (and funny) help in getting me from a 21lb baseweight to a 14lb baseweight - without me buying anything new at all, just ditching unneeded gear. Now I'm saving up for nicer, lighter gear and my goal is 8lbs baseweight. :D

A bug net weights 3 grams, though.

I think there is an obvious counter-argument to the "uncomfortable" argument, which is that CARRYING HEAVY GEAR IS UNCOMFORTABLE!

I'd say all this is great and it works for Neemor. But IME the Frogg Toggs he's talking about did not work for me. Climbing over a blow down that's across the trail (no way around it) they split in the crotch. No bug net, try that in the summer in some of the spots where I camp you wont get 10 mins worth of sleep. I do agree that you don't have to spend a fortune to get light, there are alternatives. Just because something is popular doesn't mean its the best choice.

Where did you find the Montbell Thermawrap for under $200?
@NeemorsWorld7 жыл бұрын
+Noah Chicoine I bought it through their website, but now I see that it has doubled in price. I wonder if it had been on sale, but it wasn't marked as a sale. 🤷🏼♀️ it's kinda sad how pricy they are now.

Yeah, I've been looking all winter for a decent packable down jacket and I can't find anything decent for under like 150. Around 200 sure I can find lots but around 100 to 150 is impossible.

+Noah Chicoine have you tried looking used?
@noahchicoine47807 жыл бұрын
I can find some good ones used, like the Moutain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer I can find for 100 - 175 used but even that's rare. But I can NEVER find Monbell, or things like Rab, or any of the more niche brands used. Maybe it will be better "off season".

I finally found what I'm looking for, and did get it used. I went with the Monane Featherlite Down Jacket. It had been a toss-up for me between that, the Ghost Whisperer (which once I finally saw one in person I was glad I didn't get) and or the Rab Microlight Alpine Hooded. I had found all of these for "just over $100 on ebay or geartrade. I LOVE geartrade.com this is the 3rd very nice hard to find inexpensively item I've obtained from them. I found my marmot ether driclime there and I wear that jacket almost every climb. It's my go-to piece of kit. So yeah, it is sad that it's getting harder and harder to find decent pieces of kit for inexpensive. But I guess it's worth spending more for some items. On a complete side note, and link me if you have a video about it. Have you ever tried hammock camping? That's what I've settled on, and so far I'm loving it. Only done 2 overnights with it, and it takes a bit more kit than expected which make it no less kit than a tent. (tarp, underquilt, and top quilt are a necessity). But so far I love it.

I was helped by this! My gear is about 11.5lbs right now and I want to go lighter, even if it’s just for Oregon. I know I neeed a lighter pack and shelter. Was already thinking of posting my Headlamp and leggings ahead but I’m definitely going to look into those Montbell jackets as well now!

I liked your video. You did a good job doing your research but I think you can go even cheaper if you dig in a little deeper for example@alexpress.com. If you look into customizing some of your gear you can assure that you were sleeping back will be warmer without spending more money. I have always used backpacks from Walmart but customize them to measure up to my the mending expectations. My backpacks are very competitive to do big box top of the line name brands on our on really light. Are used in the past air mattresses intended for swimming pools but was very unsatisfied with the valves at the moment to deflate. These air mats are as good as the big bucks top-of-the-line name brands. For shelter are use a 12 x 10 on really dirt cheap tarp sold at stores even cheaper than Walmart. I’m talking seven dollars with lots of Confort. And for mosquitoes and critters are use the Bumbasa defender that also customized to be lighter. I like your honesty and help to overcome the stereotype about backpacking having to be very expensive. Keep up the good work.

while i see your point with how you would spend more at rei, i can not spend $1000 (i’m 16). most of my gear is either from like target or a discount store or i just don’t have it. anyways love the vid

You could get a job and save up your money buying quality light weight items one at a time.

My friend hiked the AT and PCT with much less. He went to dicks and bought the cheapest tent and backpack they had, didn't use a sleeping bad until someone on trail gave him $100 to buy one (He bought a $20 yoga mat instead). Obviously this stuff wasn't lightweight, but never let money stop you from following a dream. His packweight was really heavy for what he had, but he did it and we'll be doing the CDT together next year and he'll have the same cheap/heavy gear.
