These two places are practically beside each other. But, I admit there could be differences between local areas pj/damansara, puchong and kepong etc. Mont Kiara is more like an expat + local enclave

I used to go Puchong often because of my parents used to have a phone shop at IOI Mall. So I can say I kinda grew up in Puchong, why Puchong is so jammed is because of the amount of houses in Puchong, and from Puchong to go KL, you only have 1 highway you can use and thats why its always jammed. Why Puchong is always flooded is also because Puchong used to have a lot of tin mines and when they shut down the mines, the mines become ponds and when you see Puchong in Google Maps, you will see a lot of ponds. Add to the fact that the drainage system is always clogged due to rubbish and stuff. The road infront of IOI Mall is always flooded because the water that come in cannot be extracted out fast enough. Even the drain infront of the IOI Mall has been upgraded a few times. Puchong really nothing much other than good food, theres plenty to explore in Puchong for food.
Funny enough, i learn a lot about Puchong and Subang today. It is really strange to get a guest that comes from Kepong though. I dont understand the relevance 😅

Those who stayed in Puchong got the other alternative of the shopping mall to visit - Pavillion Bukit Jalil, apart from IOI Puchong, and Setia Walk. Also, Puchong (especially Bandar Kinrara area) is nearer to KL compared to Subang, as we have 2 main toll-free roads - Jalan Puchong (extension of Old Klang Road), and Bukit Jalil Highway which led us directly to KL downtown within 30 minutes (if no jam, or off peak hours lah)

I have lived in both Subang and Puchong, so there is a difference. But the lines are getting blurry as time goes on. 1. Lived in Subang since the late 1980's, I grew up there, went to school and college as well. Yes, got a lot of banana's there because the Chinese people mostly speak English but in their household, they will speak Chinese with their parents. The diversity of Subang Jaya residents is varied, so there is a good mix of Malay, Chinese and Indian households. It would be similar to PJ or Damansara Jaya / Utama. Do you know that Subang and USJ used to be a huge palm oil plantation ( owned by UEP )? The turning point happens when Subang got two colleges that is Taylor's College ( now University College ) and Metropolitan College ( now is rebranded Inti University College ), subsequently other Uni's joined, such as Sunway Uni and Monash Uni. Four major private Uni's in one location, definitely people with money will send their kids to Subang to study and live. So I am not surprise there will be atas2 people lingering in Subang. But you want to know where the real atas2 people are at in the Klang Valley? Bangsar and Taman Tun. 2. Moved to Puchong after graduating from Uni. This was like early 2007. Subang got too congested for our family. So we moved. The area where we live is not central Puchong so it is not as congested. Diversity of residence depends on the location. Puchong Jaya & Bandar Puteri and Kinrara, is very Chinese; Hakka, Cantonese and Mandarin speaking. Once you go deep into Puchong Perdana & Puchong Prima you will start to see more Malays. Puchong used to be what people say a "cowboy town", "rural, kampung" or "there is nothing there". Thanks to the LDP Highway, this has enriched Puchong but also cause the residents those huge traffic jams during rush hours. By the way, the LRT running through the main Puchong town is convenient. 👍👍 Compare to 20 years ago, Puchong has developed well, so many eateries and good food places to find. Puchong Steamboat is fire. Sedap. Even the IOI Mall has upgraded and is more modern. Although to be honest, Pavilion Bukit Jalil is taking away a lot of business. XD

Subang Jaya is a well planned township with proper parks, straight roads, schools and business center. It can properly plan because of a single developer Sime UEP Puchong on another hand is half hazzard plan township where developers own patches of land in Puchong. They maximise the land with houses and no provision for parks, schools and various infrastructures. No proper planned drainage system and that caused the floods in Puchong. Puchong is more "Attap" to me and Subang Jaua more upscale to me.
