Best hella horn install for the Crosstrek I’ve watched a couple and it’s seems everyone is guessing most of the time. Very good video I just bought a brand new Crosstrek and Hella horns are one of 15+ mods I’m doing in the next two weeks. Thank you I Subscribed to your KZbin channel

This was the most helpful video ever! I installed mine on my 2011 Impreza and used your idea with the 2 home made ground wires and extension. It was my first wiring job anyhow, but super helpful Jerry! Peace out!

Thanks for the detailed tutorial. I've bought my Hella horns, made my extension and grounding cables, and I'll be installing them this weekend, time permitting.

Snarkticon i want to do this but i’m not familiar with electrical stuff. can you explain what grounding is for and how to make the extension? I have a 2016 crosstrek
@SafetyThirdProps7 жыл бұрын
Hi Edwin. The ground wire completes the electrical circuit between the horn and the car's battery. You can make your own cables very easily from items you buy at your local auto parts store. I bought some 18 gauge wire and a a set of assorted connectors for less than $15. You'll need a crimping tool, which you can also find there. And here is a simple how-to for crimping: www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Crimp-Cables-and-Wires!/

Snarkticon just to make sure i don’t get the wrong things but can you tell me specifically the names of the wires you used or the wires that the video used? also, how does the extension connect to the original power source?

Hi, saw a relay harness that comes with your horn unit. Did you install it? Didn't see it in the video.
@msgmayjing8 жыл бұрын
I don't think you need to install the new relay if you're replacing the horns. If you are adding the horns you'll need to add the new relay into the setup

Very nice video! My wife bought our very first Subaru ... a Desert Khaki Crosstrek just like yours! You have really don't a great job with your Crosstrek... one day my wife will let me make some mods to ours! lol. Hey.. where did u get those color-coded plugs for the front plate holes in the bumper cover? How much has the new tires affected your mpg? Thanks again for doing such great vids!
@AZAdventureInc8 жыл бұрын
The front bumper plugs are just plastic hole plugs from Ace hardware painted with desert khaki tough up paint (google 'My Crosstrek has nipples' to see my post on subaruxvforum about it). The wheels/tires were installed first day at the dealer so no before/after mpg stats.

I have seen a few other videos where they use a whole new wiring harness and relay, with direct to battery connection. Is there an advantage to that way over the way you did it? Your way definitely seems a lot easier.

You mentioned blacking out a part behind where the grill goes because the new grill allows you to see little further in, What paint did you use for that and to paint the yellow on the horns black?
@AZAdventureInc8 жыл бұрын
I used Krylon semi-gloss black enamel to spray the non-black areas behind the grill (condenser etc), and the same paint to spray the horn grills. I removed the horn grills (dissembled: took out the screws), cleaned with isopropyl alcohol and painted the pieces, then baked them at 200 degrees F for about a half hour to give the paint a tougher finish (typical when I paint car/motorcycle pieces that aren't powder painted). Any semi-gloss or flat paint would work.

what is the plastic piece removed at 1:55? I have a 2013 impreza and that piece on my car extends down much further and blocks the horns on the left side. Please help :[
@AZAdventureInc8 жыл бұрын
If you listen to the audio it's explained. That piece is the top cowling that needs to be removed first to remove the grill.

Quick question, you wouldn't happen to have the link to those wires would you? & how did you create the extension to lead to the second horn?
@AZAdventureInc8 жыл бұрын
There is no link for the wires, I made them. The 2 horn ground wires re 18 gauge 7" long with a female spade connector on one end (plugs into the male ground connector on each horn) and a ring connector on the other end to put the ground screw through. The extension wire positive lead for the passenger side horn is 18 gauge wire about 16" long with a female spade connector on one end (plugs into the horn + side) and a male spade connector on the other end (plugs into the original passenger horn positive connector in the passenger wheel well area). The wires are shown at 6:30 in the video.

Hi. I am just about to pick up a Quartz Blue 2017 Crosstrek. How did you fill those factory plate holes? Its retarded they put those on vehicles when many states do not require front plate. I think its tacky and Subaru should have something to deal with that or at least sell a small faceplate in stainless or something. You apparently got plugs and painted them. Where did you buy them?
@AZAdventureInc7 жыл бұрын
I bought the plastic plugs at an Ace hardware and ordered a vial of touch up paint

Thanks man. I have an Ace 1 minute away. Anything special or did you just look for ones that looked like they fit? Were they body panel plugs? I found a guy on Bumperplugs.com that matches them exactly to your paint. $27.95 though......nice business because he does them for all cars and all he needs is paint code. I'll try Ace but maybe just spend the $27 and have them painted and ready to plug the damn holes!

Hey I was wondering, do those horns block a significant amount of air coming to your rad? Like do you notice your car running hotter or any cooling system issues?
@AZAdventureInc8 жыл бұрын
No issues. The stock grill probably blocks more air. In any case, adding an extra horn (there was already one) isn't going to have any significant effect.

I'd like to do the same mod but just use the original locations for the horns. Do the OEM cables plug right into the Hellas? And do I really need to install a ground wire?
@AZAdventureInc8 жыл бұрын
You'll need a ground wire for each new horn. There are 2 spade terminals on each horn one for +12v and one for chassis ground. Use the same terminal on each horn for +12v or the horns won't be as loud as possible
@msgmayjing8 жыл бұрын
Subaru XV Crosstrek Central did these a few days ago and loving the results. thank you for your video! still haven't used them on anyone yet though 😕
@johnleale8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the wonderful videos. Its unfortunate there is no "+" or "-" on each of the horn terminals. There was a "k" on one terminal so I connected the ground to both terminals with that marking. I located the horns in the same place you did and was able to disconnect the lower stock horn wire without removing the full bumper. I did have to remove the grill however. Would not have been able to do this without you video. Thanks!!
