Installing Hella Horns on a Subaru Crosstrek Without Removing the Front Bumper

I just installed a set of Hella Supertone Horns on our 2019 Subaru Crosstrek without having to take off the front bumper. After reviewing many different ways to wire the horns and mount them, I figured out the most time-efficient way to do it. In this video, I'll be showing you how to wire the horns parallel and be able to install your Hella horns in minimal time. The same process will apply to all 2018 - 2023 Crosstrek XV's. Nice installation done properly with the relay. Too many people do a half-assed installation without the relay and don't realise they are not getting the best out of their horns. All the best, Rob in Switzerland

i I NSTALLED A SET DIRECTLY TO WHERE THE oem horns went (in front of the radiator and behind the right side fog lamp directly to the same mounting bolts and the OEM electrical plugs didn't need the extra relay or wire. WOW Loud!

You can also do that, but I just wanted to make sure they get the FULL juice directly from the battery. I also wanted them mounted visibly behind the grille :)

I was looking for this comment. Just replaced my 16 with an 18, was going to reinstall my horns on the new trek and if I remembered right I did the 16 what the factory plugs

Great video! I got stuck on the wiring as I'm not quite as confident and took me many views to make sure I had it right. When you separate the negative and positive wires, it still has some red or black on it... But my 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness didn't have a 2nd horn. Strange? But had to remove the bumper to verify that I didn't. Was not that bad to remove and made it easier to wire up. Cheers!

Hi Mr Bender I have a Wilderness too , my question is did the horn fit with the trans cooler? in the driver side? Does it affect the cooling? I see what you did there Mr Bender B Rodriguez ! I love Futurama too 👍

@@extraordinarywolf320 I mounted it to the impact bar as well. It does not obstruct the trans cooler at all, so good there. It only slightly, maybe cover a small sliver of the radiator, but not enough to affect performance. I have not seen any change in temp from the read-outs in the console. For me I added a few more spacers to push the horn out in front of the impact foam. If you don't, it will start to dig into it, or you could remove it if you like. Cheers!

What size fuse did you end up using for the inline fuse holder and was that mounted near the battery I assume? Also, what length of screws did you use? Great video! I will be using this as my guide!

Hi! I installed everything exactly as you did, made my own harness and crimped and heat-shrinked all connectors. I connected the relay just as you did. Removed the old horn and connected the signal wire to the relay. Grounded the relay to a known good spot near the battery and wired the relay direct to the battery as described. Unfortunately the second factory horn is only firing. Now on the ground mounted to the bracket on passenger side horn, I didn’t sand the paint off - thinking this might be a ground issue…. Did you sand your ground at that bracket by chance?

I did not have to sand paint off. I used the factory impact bar as the ground for the horns and the apron/upper rail as the ground for the relay. Sounds like you need to use a voltmeter and perform a continuity test to the relay to make sure your signal wire is actually getting power to the relay when you activate the horn.

After some troubleshooting, I isolated the problem being the horn backs were touching the impact bar, I had them too low and for some reason that was causing them to not fire. Relay was clicking fine, but only the second factory horn was firing until I figured it out. Now it looks and sounds great!! Thank you for this great video!

For 2023 Subaru is finally fixed the horrible weak Asian-sounding horns. The Legacy, Outback, Ascent all got phenomenal American-sounding horns. Much louder and can actually be heard in traffic.
