It's funny how all of this works. You're 2,000 miles from me but somehow, watching your videos, I've come to count you as an old friend. Every time I send a link to your site to someone, I hear back... "He really knows what he's doing and what a nice guy." That's unique on the Internet in my experience. So, if you ever get "back east" (laughed when a commenter here thought you were in Connecticut), please stop by and I'll take you out for a cruise in the ocean on my old boat. I think you'd like it. Continued success! Bill.

Hey Brian, I started watching your videos when I was thinking about replacing the head gaskets on my Legacy. Your video dissuaded me from taking that project on and allowing the professional do the work. So I wanted to let you know that not only do your videos empower, they also inform so that people feel comfortable making informed decisions about their car repairs. I watch now just because I really like your approach and your down-to-earth demeanor and great advice. Please keep it up and thank you.

That double sided tape is used to do arts and crafts, and is available in a roll, much cheaper than the hollywood tape. Lasts for a lot of cars as well. The thick door and speaker tape is a good thing as well, you can get sheets of it as sound deadening foamfor cars, cheap and you can cut big odd shapes out of it.

Oh man, some nice little finds there! Excuse me while I raid that little list you posted with the video~ About two years ago, I got so fed up with all the rattles in my car, I stripped the entire interior down to bare metal--even the airbags and HVAC pods came out--and dynamatted every...single...surface... Any metal bracing that was removable came out and got coated in rubberized sound deadener. Every crevice and cavity got filled with pliable spray foam (protip: Don't use AB foam or prepackaged equivalents; it's too hard). The insides of plastic panels and trim pieces got sprayed with sound deadener, too. It was a month-long project, but the car is almost as quiet as a Rolls Royce! The window glass passes more road noise through than anything else. ...Need to figure out how to laminate that, now... What really amazed me is how much rattling can "affect" ride quality. Not having the entire interior clacking and crackling about, you don't even notice the little bumps and jars that you once could. Our brains are funny things...
@briansmobile110 жыл бұрын
SO TRUE! That's why the dealerships have the anti-rattle kit's installed. Curt Simshauser "Curbeck" is a Lexus tech. You'll see shots of gutted Lexus' on his instagram all the time. Rattles make a car feel cheap.

Thanks for the video(s)! For what it's worth, I used liquid teflon to coat all the surfaces that the white clips mount to, it cures soft so the clips don't rattle. The teflon I speak of (made by Permatex) is usually used to prevent water leaks from bolts on an automotive water pump.

Great video! Thanks. I have a 2010 Impreza and the dash drives me nuts. I stuck slivers of wood (from toothpicks). They would work for a bit but then stop as they would fall in. One thing that I would like to try and fix rather than getting a new one (with it probably happening again) is a sagging driver visor. Doesn't stay up all the way in either position - blocking the glare or put back. Is there an easy fix? Thx.

Hey Brian, I own a 2021 Subaru Outback XT Touring. Rattles started at 2,000 miles and more at 7,000 miles. I have sourced dash rattles above the instrument panel, and others above the glove box. The rattles above the glove box might be coming from the interior concealed plastic lining in the glove box. I have no idea how to make the glove box rattle free. I need for the dealership to be more cooperative but Subaru has not been helpful. In addition there are rattles in the front passenger door and drivers door. Not sure where to start to get the dealership and Subaru of America to fix these rattles on my $42,000 Outback.

Love all your stuff Bri, I just got rid of my Subaru (not because of the rattles) and bought a Peugeot Van with a 2.0 Diesel turbo. Trying to find out why there is oil seemingly leaking from my Intercooler. I know most of your videos are about petrol and I haven't seen anything on your channel about turbo Diesel engines but should I be worried? I read sometimes that a little bit of oil is normal and something to do with crank case ventilation or EGR valve. Others say that it is a sign of Turbo bearings on the way out? A bit off topic for this video I know but perhaps you could point me in the right direction. Many thanks for everything you post, everything is relevant to my/our (your fans) knowledge even if I/we are not dealing with this or that particular problem. Cheers. Dave.

If my wife wouldn't kill me for trying this on my jeep I totally would, but with my luck, I'd break the body pins. Plus if there is anything she'd want me to do on it, it would probably find out why one of my breaks keeps sticking. Great video as always! Brian, that karma thing works, doesn't it? I saved a thousand dollars by replacing my 2000 f250 fuel pump myself, thanks to your videos and the way they provide encouragement and information. What an awesome resource you've become. Question for you... Which diagnostic tool would you recommend? As in, one that doesn't cost $4000 to $6000 like the guy in the tool truck wants to charge. (Hmmm.. maybe that's just the DIY'er price instead of the professional mechanics' price...;-)

I'm digg'n the Maxidas DS708 right now. It's a real learning curve to understand and operate all the different manufacture vehicles on there (NOT super user friendly or consistent like Modis or OTC) but the coverage is pretty decent for the 1300 or so it costs. → www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B2PKYU8/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00B2PKYU8&linkCode=as2&tag=httpwwwyou00f-20&linkId=GW3XKXWFZ6672WRC I've found holes in the coverage, but overall it's worth the money. The updates are like $800 a year OUCH! but you don't have to update but every two or three years realistically.

I got SOO tired of my WRX rattling from all over (it rattled from new) that I gave up finding all of them. You will never find all of the rattles. Ever. Remember, the WRX is based on a cheap econobox. Eventually I replaced it with a fast BMW. The BMW is fast, quiet, and a sleeper. Someone will be very surprised when they take off the door panels of my old WRX and find all of the dynamat!
@briansmobile110 жыл бұрын
That dynamat does wonders doesn't it? I always wanted to mat the inside of a door panel with kevlar like 6 thick. I bet it would help sound and hey- what's not to love about a bullet resistant door? I've done odder things for the heck of it. What stops me is the no-turning back factor of not having the PDR option if there's a ding.
@s0nnyburnett10 жыл бұрын
Don't complain when your BMW breaks. And I don't know who still thinks of BMW as sleepers.
@austinformedude10 жыл бұрын
I think my modded 335 is more of a sleeper than my WRX with the wing and loud quad exhaust was, yes. Don't get me wrong, I loved my Subaru although it was not without its faults. The factory release bearing kept going out and had the clutch done twice under warranty. This is a fairly common problem. I didn't want to invest in yet another clutch when the release bearing starting going out again for the third time (outside of warranty). It is also based on an economy car, so it is noisy and full of cheap plastic that breaks easily. I still loved the car, and I actually sold it for more than I paid for it brand new. I have put more miles on the BMW then I did on the Subaru and have had absolutely zero problems. None. I work in a shop, and I can tell you the myth about BMW being more difficult to work on is false. Yes, BMWs are very complicated, computerized, and over engineered...then again just about every modern car is now. A Kia Forte now is just as complicated to work on with its directed injected and turbocharged/intercooled engine. If you want an easy to work on car, get an old Corolla or Citroen C2V. I will admit that BMW parts do cost more, but they are also generally of a better quality so I don't mind the added cost.
