My 22 yo daughter, who had only changed the oil in her'02 LLBean a couple times in the past, used your video to replace the alternator in her car. She was thrilled! Thanks for the great videos.

Thank you sooo much. I have a 2003 Subaru outback H6 3.0L and I need to upgrade my alternator due to adding a new Stereo system a few months ago. It needs a little more power. My current alternator just can't keep up with the Amps needed, so I really appreciate this video. All the other subaru outback alternator replacement KZbin videos only show the 2.5L engines. And honestly the 3.0L vs the 2.5L, alternator replacement seems more simple. That tensioner pulley is pretty handy. Great video!

Afternoon Mr. Subaru, Vehicle: 2004 Subaru Outback LL BEAN H6 3.0 with 120k mi. Issue: For 2 years, battery/brake lights come on simultaneously, intermittently. Family member that owned it didn't seem too worried about it. 2 weeks ago, I'm driving the car, and it died in flight. No start , no crank. Threw a battery in it , started right up and the brake/battery light are still coming on intermittently. Then I ordered a Denso Reman from Car ID. All the connections look good. I threw in the Denso Reman last weekend and everything seemed fine. I got about 20 mis down the highway and to no avail, the brake/batt light are back to flickering on/off intermittently. When I was parking the other day, I noticed the DRL flickering on/off in sync with batt/ brake light and the rpm dropping as if the car was going to stall. Other than this, the Car runs great. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I've been reading there is something very sensitive about the internal regulator on the H6 alternator that speaks to the ECU? Very Respectfully, Jay

Update: OEM Alternator bench test was all good at local Advanced auto. Tested 3 times. The installed Denso currently in the car also tested good.

Sounds like a bad connection. Most likely a bad ground somewhere. Check the battery cables. Check the ground cable at the engine block.

awesome video. I have a 2011 2.5i outback. I feel like the current stock oem 110 amp alternator is not cutting it. I can feel the car shutter a bit at times when I have heated seats on, my oem premium sound system blasting, and turning the car actually sucks power. Can i upgrade to the 3.6R alternator that has 130amp output? Would that work? Just looking for a bit extra power, nothing crazy.

Anyone have any issues with aftermarket alternators on subaru??
@JI774694 жыл бұрын
I presume "ToughOne" is basically now Duralast (Autozone)? Do you still recommend them? OEM at a discount from Subaru seems to be $275, which sounds really expensive.

Hi! I have a pulley squeal issue coming from my alternator on a 2001 H6 Outback. Is this the same process?

Hi from australia . I have a 2002 outback h6, im running a fridge and 30amp victron dc- dc charger to 100ah lithium. From standard alternator. It seems weak, and i wish to drop in a higher output alternator for this and accessories. I was told the 2006 is a 130amp and will drop in no mods. Is this correct? If so what is the number so i can seek one locally. Many thanks, Johnny :-)

I am not a mechanic, have a 3.0 ltr R series Subaru Legacy and wrecked several bearings in one of the Drive Belt Pulleys got a replacement pulley but didn't have a proper leverage tool to release the tension and get the belt back on. I have removed the Tensioner Pulley and the nut has fallen down behind what I believe is the timing/cam belts housing. Can you please advise if I need to take the Housing off and retrieve the nut or will it sit harmlessly jammed between the back of the Housing Unit and the engine block? I want to make sure that if I start the engine the nut won't wreck some other componentry.
@MrSubaru13877 жыл бұрын
+Ged D on the 3.0 the timing chain is fully covered by the aluminum housing. The nut will not effect the timing chain.

I am the worst mechanic in the world, something else always goes wrong but I can't afford the $500 plus for the repair so I had to do it myself. In this case the alternator bolt, also called the alternator pivot bolt (the long one on the bottom) had a rounded head and it was in tight. I was lucky though, my neighbor had a 12 mm bolt extractor which worked like magic. Thanks to you I got the darn thing out. Next problem was getting a new bolt. I also had a problem getting it back in with the nut thing in place. I did go back and watch the video again and it was so easy when I saw what you did I laughed out loud. Long story but I just came back from a test drive and the engine warning light is off. Only light that is on is new. The ABS light is on. Do you think there is a connection?
@MrSubaru13878 жыл бұрын
+David Bingham glad to hear that you got the alternator replaced. The ABS light most likely isn't related. Best to get the code read and go from there.

My 06 Tribeca has a pulley that don't let me take the right/down nut out..
@MrSubaru13876 жыл бұрын
You can remove the center bolt from the pulley to access the bolt. You should be able to loosen the lower bolt. It fits in a slot. It doesn't have to be fully removed, just loosened to come out.
@rapidfirest6 жыл бұрын
MrSubaru1387 Thank you, I did that.. last night my Subaru started to make a very loud noise coming from the engine, I thought it was the transmission, since it felt a bit forced the vehicle, when I checked the engine area, the sound came from the alternator, when I started the engine, I saw small pieces of metal flying out of the alternator, so I guess the fault is in the alternator ..will change it

Can you get away with just loosening the lower 12mm mounting bolt instead of removing it?

My tensioner on my VDC appears to be a 14mm, not a 15mm...
@MrSubaru13877 жыл бұрын
+themadmallard probably is a 14mm I may have mistyped.

Okay, wow, my tensioner is nowhere near as easy as yours is to move, and my belt does not have enough slack to be removed from the alt pulley. tips?
