Do they turn off when you close the doors or do they stay on while you drive?

They are wired to your hazard button, which is wired to all the light on the knobs, buttons, etc. When you take the key off they turn off, along with everything else

Yes that's correct, while your headlights are on the lights on the buttons and knobs also come on including the footwell LEDs until the headlights are turned off
