Subaru Forester deep sand Test: No, we did not lower the tire pressure even if recommended. The tires are the OEM ones that you get on a Touring Forester. Yes, we could have gone faster, but that's not the objective of the test! In sand, the best way to do it is to engage X-mode and turn off the TCS. It's the equivalent of using the dual X-mode in the Deep Snow and mud mode. That CVT is holding the Forester power and momentum a lot! I hope that a Forester Wilderness version with another ratio help in this situation! But a good thing, it did not overheat or disconnect! #subaruforester #xmode

Its incredibly capable for a crossover, arguably the most capable crossover, no they're not jeeps but they also get amazing gas mileage and have superior comfort and handling on road, which is where even the biggest off-road enthusiast spends most of their time driving anyway.
@peaceonearth86933 жыл бұрын
The crossover part is not relevant at all. What we have here is a vehicle with improved ground clearance, that has two open differential axels (as opposed to a normal car's one). But also uses a computer to apply the brakes to the wheel on each axel that has the least traction.
@milesmakale71293 жыл бұрын
@@peaceonearth8693I think you many have missed my point. Im quite familiar with the vehicles specifications as I have one myself, my point is that for a vehicle that is not a bonafide off-roader, in this case a crossover, it does quite well off road while maintaining excellent control and comfort on pavement, something that a more substantial/capable off road vehicle lacks (:

@@peaceonearth8693 I think maybe you're getting a bit hung up on my use of the word crossover and missing the point. Crossover is the class of the vehicle, just like a sedan or truck. many crossovers that claim to be capable off-road are atrocious. There is quite a big difference between what the vehicle was designed for by the manufacturer and the vehicles paint color. the idea is that it is a great all around vehicle, yes its not going to tackle Moab like a jeep or hug the road like a BMW. One who wants a vehicle ONLY for off roading is definitely not going to buy a Subaru. but it gives one greater versatility, this is how they design and market the forester, Crosstrek, outback and its been wildly successful. As long as they don't have the older TR690 found in the OB Wilderness. That transmission stalls out early and it's crawl ratio isn't as great. The TR580 found in the Forester [Wilderness], and Crosstrek doesn't stall as much because it's first gear ratio is much shorter.

Well, this isn't an automatic transmission which uses liquid as a transfer medium. And, there was not any changing of gears with a CVT. What this system does is create differences with a computer applying the brake to the wheel that is slipping on each axle. So, the show was more about a computer searching for how to apply brake pressure than the transmission doing anything.
@bill69603 жыл бұрын
@@peaceonearth8693 It still uses a torque converter, "which uses liquid as a transfer medium" and under those conditions builds heat. If they kept at it for a longer period of time, it would have built up significant heat, but then so would have a regular automatic. An auxiliary cooler is a recommendation for a CVT, just as it is with an automatic for off road/towing situations. The downside is adding a cooler will void Subaru's 100,000 mile CVT warranty.
