OMG Yes! Finally a video that shows exactly what my '05 OBXT has while turning on full left lock or simply turning to the left.. Mine has this grinding/scraping almost like dragging a metal pipe on the floor kind of sound. Fantastic process of elimination. This is what a good mechanic does. I am going to check the left front wheel bearing, truly hoping it's just that on my car. Thank you!

I just bought an 2011 Forester with 60,000 Km, and it had the grinding noise as well from left to right. I ruled out the brakes and CV since it’s a different noise. I’m thinking low steering fluid, but it has electronic steering so no fluid reservoir I can find. Your video is making me think it’s the wheel bearings. I’m going to have it checked tomorrow since it’s night time, hoping that’s the only problem and nothing else. Thanks for this vid. 👍

Same issue in my Toyota 86 but it only does it when driving the hills hard and taking a long sorta sharp left turn at like 60+

Which way to you primarily turn when doing donuts? It’s most likely left and that’s most likely your culprit ;) had mine go on my left way before my right and i’m about to change the left again! Something about the tire getting pulled across the tar instead of pushed when turned

Hi, do you have that grinding noise when braking? I have some intermittent grinding when turning left as well, but most of time while braking. Have changed pad and turned rotor initially but the same noise no changes... Have thought replacing the bearings which is my next suspect and after watching this vid gives me hope!!!! Nice ride btw... Me too a Legacy lover!!!

It would also happen sometimes while braking, the best thing you can do is pull apart your components and perform an inspection, ensure nothing is rubbing/contacting components (while turning) it’s also better if you can determine what side it is on. May be something rubbing, could be your CV axle or wheel bearing, worst case it’s the diff or diff bearings. Could be as simple as something loose and rubbing. (Loose brake pads could cause a chatter/grinding)

@@Kamshaft Yes, I have ripped apart both front braking system, checked/changed pads, checked any signs of grinding marks on shield, pad shims and clips so on but all looks ok. Have taken apart the wheel bearing to inspect as well. It doesn't feel easy to turn like a normal bearing does, but doesn't have the rough/grinding sound like yours in the vid. I do hoped not the diffs but will get the bearings replaced to try it out, and hoped could nailed it down for good! Thanks for your advises mate.

Nice. That's something I should take a look at. I've been earing a very similar noise to that in my 2011 Impreza that's been bugging me, but on the right side front. Mostly when turning left, sometimes just going straight. But once I get going, the noise either gets quieter or stops completely. I'm only really hearing this when turning or when first taking off from a stop.

Correct, the bearing may start to make sounds before it gets worn to the point of having play.
