What tires are those? With snow tires on my Legacy, it is unstoppable.

I've gone through much deeper snow with no VDC, as my Legacy doesn't have any. I'm yet to get stuck. Pushing snow with the license plate is no problem :)

Given you can see the wheel hubs of your 17" times, I doubt that snow is 15". Maybe 7-8" at best. I would tend to agree with others that with proper snow tires, you shouldn't have to floor it to get through that snow. It looks light and fluffy and below the ground clearance of the Outback.

Man, those tires must be bald, LOL! In the last 3 winters I had the crappy factory Potenza's and they never lost traction like this in deep snow.

i herd that vdc in a standard subaru keeps you from rolling back on a hill for a second by applying the break when it realizes you have the clutch on and no gas or something

That is only about 7' of snow. If you do have Firestone Winterforce on they need to be replaced because you shouldn't have as much trouble as you are having. You need to have at least 9/32 of rubber depth left to have an effective snow tire and of course they need to be on all four even if you have a two wheel dive auto if you didn't know that already. I have 4 vehicles and two of them are Subaru’s, a 2004 and a 2014 WRX STI with the best snow tire on the market General Altimax Arctic snows and they plow right through 12' of snow with ease. You also make your engine work less if you have good snow tires. The General Altimax Arctic’s are cheaper, made by Continental and are much better than the Winterforce. I have tried just about every snow tire out there and there are only a few names i would buy again and Firestone isn't one of them even though they are not too bad in the deep snow.

I wonder if Altimax Arctic makes all season tires??

I do not think I went any faster with vdc on or off. With vdc on I just kept my foot to the floor, let the car take over. With vdc off I shifted through gears and back (auto) or till car shifted. It was easily 15". I did just get my '12 stuck, same tires, firestone winterforce, which I think are great. I was in 8" on top of hard pack ice, snow even with bottom of doors, got hung up on plowed snow drift, guess I found its limits.

If you had General Altimax Arctic snow tires you wouldn't even spin your tires. I have them on my two new Subaru's this is how i know. Buy a better snow tire.

That's not the VDC. It's the hill holder. I have it on my 2000 Legacy that has no VDC. If the clutch is in it holds the brakes. Not shure how it works but I suspect that the clutch pedal is connected to some sort of valve in the brake master cylinder. Because if you only apply a little bit of brake force and then release the brake pedal the car rolls slowly backwards. If you push a little harder the car stops and holds the brake. Let off the clutch pedal and the brake is released :)

Shitty tires. My Legacy with Uniroyal Tiger Paw would push snow with a licence plate with no problem, or barely any wheelspin... Your Outback should walk it like in the park... shitty tires.
