I compiled this video with some old and new footage I had which show some of the places my Outback has taken me. Nice mixes of terrain (no snow unfortunately!) and lots of fun had.
Some of the footage is taken with permission off KZbin user: mrgnluke. Check his Channel out for more Subie related videos!
Car mounted camera is a GoPro HD Motorsports Hero.

The muffler is called a Varex muffler. They're a fairly standardised product so all that needs to change is the exhaust tip to suit the car. Nothing EZ30 specific. Sounds incredible! I was on the sand dunes this weekend past and gave it about 6grand going up a dune with all fours spinning.....awesome :)

A lot of these places are less than 2-hrs from Sydney. The main ones are the Watagan Mountains, MacDonald Valley and Yengo National Park. Since this video, my car has been lifted 1"inch. Its just about to get another 1"inch lift hopefully tomorrow or the day after. Look out for more videos!

Great video. I have a manual Outback, it's taken me some gnarly places, and never put a foot wrong. These cars are surprisingly capable. I recently went up the Skippers Road near Queenstown, New Zealand, in winter. Mud, snow, ice & deep ruts. Great fun!

FINALLY someone who drives their subie fast off-road. I'm actually about to trade my Tacoma in for one of these. I had some incredible times with my TRD OFfRoad over the last 10 years, and was getting really depressed about the idea that I'd have to give up rugged terrain. This video made me feel WAY better about my decision. I can't wait to go pick up my new Outback!

Yes they've got an angel eye fitting which came with the kit. That's wired in independently via a switch so they're not always on. They do make a bright park light though. The kit itself is off eBay. Do a search for "G1 projectors" and they should come up. Let me know if you've got any difficulties finding them. They only cost about $100 USD. The install costs the most as its a delicate job and takes some hours. If you change it, I'm not sure how they will work with your headlight levelers.

Yeh its an H6 and it comes with the prehistoric 4-speed auto. As much as I'd love a manual, I live just outside of the CBD here in Sydney. I also commute regularly within the CBD centre and the traffic can be downright ridiculous at times. The 4-speed isn't too bad. With its power mode switch on, its reasonably well programmed to downshift when necessary. But often I find myself downshifting manually when wanting to overtake etc.

Good to hear you're getting yourself a Subie! This video was actually made prior to the lift kit. So check out my latest video and you'll see some of the terrain that is possible in an Outback. It won't be able to tackle the truely rugged stuff like your Tacoma has, but you can still get a decent way off road in an Outback :)

Ahh right, have they got an angle eye fitting around the projectors? Where did you get the kit from, and did you have to fit it yourself? Ours is a Japanese import, so it has HID's as standard fortunately, and I agree, the difference is incredible! We've also got a '99 Legacy with the normal halogens and the contrast is amazing haha. Ohh yeah, what muffler is it? And when you change the muffler, does it have to be EZ30 specific? Or can it just fit the diameter of the exhaust?

Hi there, sounds like a great project you've got there! I'm from NZ, well Sydney originally, and we've got an 01 Outback H6 as well, great cars. Just wondering what you've done to the headlights? Looks a little interesting! Also, does your's have a aftermarket exhaust fitted? And are those LED side indicators you've fitted? Thanks heaps!

Okay, they look pretty good from the video, but seeing as we've already got HID's I might leave that one. Yeah I've seen a few videos on installing the kits, and it does look a little messy haha. Ahh right, I had a look at your other videos and it sounds great! Wonderful flat 6 :) Giving them a good thrash up to 100km/h never ceases to put a smile on my face :) Although, upon research, it appears an adjustable muffler is illegal here in NZ, might just have to go for an in between muffler...

Oh right! I was thinking that too... Although I work part time at a local mechanics and he may or may not approve... But he doesn't have to know ;) What model Varex did you go with? I'm seeing quite a few options...?

It really depends on personal preference. I do a lot of city driving so I want an auto. But as far as auto's go - this one isn't that great. You cannot get the H6 with a manual option unfortunately. I maintain that a 5-speed 2.5L is almost as fast as a 3.0L auto....

Hi Connor, my headlights have had an aftermarket projector lens kit installed on it and xenon globes fitted. They improve lighting significantly! Yes those are LED side indicators you've spotted. My H6 has an aftermarket muffler fitted to it. It has a butterfly valve in the exhaust which can be opened or close to increase or decrease the sound produced. All operated via a neat remote control I have stored in the cabin. See my other videos for a clip of it....

I JUST bought a 1997 Outback, 5 speed. Loving it so far. For going offroading, sand dunes, two tracking, etc, what kinds of mods would you recommend? I'm thinking spacers and wider tires (factory 205's) as well as skidplates for the fuel tank and engine area.
@torque297
@torque297 7 жыл бұрын
Dollar for dollar, the best investment you can make are chucking on some decent rubber. Apart from that, a skidplate is a must. Everything else (lift kit etc) can come after that, IMO...

They're illegal here as well but Police don't tend to pay much attension to my Outback because its not normally a car you see modified. I usually close the valve anyway, so it sounds like a hybrid.

Can't quite make out the badge on this. H6 yeah? How do you find it, esp. the Auto box? I made the stupid mistake of selling my '01-RX25, but I couldn't handle it's heavy clutch in Melbourne traffic anymore. I think it's time for an Outback...

Hey, moron! I you have the money to by a subaru manual to drag racing, and crash it, go ahead. but for yor impormation, when it comes to extreme off road, automatic comes first choice.
@KlutchBelgium
@KlutchBelgium 10 жыл бұрын
luissubarurx extreme off road, lol ... And manual is not for drag racing, stop watch american TV dude. In my country, automatic is for big rich car, for grandpa and people who have an handicap. Automatic in offroad, if you don't have electronic help, you can't brake engine in down hill. Automatic is more for lazy people who can't use normally a clutch. (American buy manual but hey can't use a clutch correctly)
@VladNYPD
@VladNYPD 10 жыл бұрын
luissubarurx i agree with Kletch, Automatic is for people who can't use manual correctly. A lot of Austria/American people can't use manual. If you have NO experience doing the kind of driving, you should probably get an automatic... And training wheels. So, If you can drive correctly , take Manual IF you can't drive and just put gas pedal and pray for have a good AWD ...
