I pulled out my Subaru power washer for the first time this year and when I turned the gas valve I could see gas leaking around the float bowl area. I could not take it to a shop because it wouldn't fit in my car so I found this video and watched it, studied it and followed it despite my limited knowledge and experience with any type of motor or power tool repair. I removed the float bowl, and (once I found the right screwdriver) removed the jet pin and nozzle. I cleaned them and noticed the o ring was loose, so I put that back on the carburetor, put everything back together and to my surprise, it started with no more leaks. Wife was impressed. Thank you for the video; saved me time and money.

Thank you, thank you thank you! Pulled out this pressure washer after it sat for maybe 5 years. Wouldn’t start. Put in fresh treated fuel. Still no go. Tried spraying carb cleaner in the carburetor and it would fire up but only ran for a second or two. So I knew it was getting spark but likely no fuel. Pulled the fuel hoses off and opened the fuel valve and had fuel running. Thanks for creating this video. After pulling off the bowl and cleaning the jets as shown it started right up. Thanks again.

I bought the same model pressure washer at Costco about 4 years ago and I love it. It hasn't given my any problems so far. It has sat for 6 months without use and it fires up first try every time. I ALWAYS close the fuel shut off valve and let the gas burn out of the carb before storing it.

Holy cow! It worked. Mine would only start with starter fluid and run a second so I knew it was a carb issue but had no idea how to fix it. Took the jet out as shown and it was completely clogged. Cleaned it reinstalled and it runs like a champ! Thank You

UPDATE:1 year and still cranks within the first 2-3 pulls. Probably will buy another when this one finally does bite the dust kzbin.infoUgkx43QMbQqu67IZadu9ou8Sg1BdrunMRNqX . No issues at all. Very happy with it.UPDATE: After 6 months of use and over 70 uses I would still highly recommend this pressure washer. It does vibrate a decent amount but never had it “walk” like others have mentioned. No oil leaks, still seems to run like the day I bought it. Still cranks within 2-3 pulls every time. Very happy with my purchase!Have used it about a dozen times now. Plenty of power, cranks up on 1-2 pulls every time. My only complaint would be I wish it was a little taller to make it easier to walk with it (hits my ankles a lot) and that the two hose connections were a little further apart but it hasn’t caused me any issues. Seems to run a good 1-1/2-2 hrs on a full tank, overall a well built machine and definitely worth the money in my opinion.

Hi Jeff, like others who have watched the vid, I was able to start my washer after viewing it. All I did was take the the soap dispenser off, removed the main carb jet and nozzle. Both appeared clean, but I ran a fine wire through all of the small holes, put it back together in reverse order and if fired up on the 2nd pull. Thanks.

great video Jeff, and it was a huge help. BTW I removed the carb (without having to remove the soap dispenser) and it was simple to get the jet and screw out that way, and it was only those 2 nuts to take it off.

Great video Jeff. my main jet was clogged and after unclogging I got a first pull turn over, second pull was running. Don't have the fancy electric start like you. Old gas was trapped and clogged jet wasn't allowing new gas to get through. Washer sat for a year also. Time to replace seals on gun and hoses. Take care. Jeff also

Thanks so much for this incredibly helpful video. I have a Subaru EA190V installed on my Ariens All-Purpose Yard Vacuum.(a horrible device BTW). The device doesn't have electric pull start. It's been sitting for more than a year. Wouldn't start, not even with starting fluid. I followed your instructions (using an insulin syringe to clean out the holes in the jets). Even though the two jets looked SPOTLESS prior to cleaning, after performing the actions in your tutorial, the engine (which always was hard to start) started on an gentle first pull. The engine now works perfectly. Thanks again!!! One questions whether the engines ship from the factory in a "hard to start" state. As I said, after performing the cleaning, all it took was a gentle "first pull" to start the engine.

I tried everything but didn’t pull the main jet, as it had flow when I blew through it. But when I saw you take it out and those microscopic holes on the side I thought that was probably it. Sure enough I used some thin wire to clean them out and my pressure washer is up and running again! Thanks a million for posting.

Thanks for posting this; it helped me get my unit running again. I didn't notice any blocks in the jets, but I ran some carb cleaner through everything while I had it apart, and it started right up. Must be some gumminess in the fuel after it sits for some time; it had been about 5 months since I last used it. I think adding some fuel stabilizer might help with keeping things clean between infrequent uses.

I have the same power washer that I purchased from Costco a couple of years ago and the other day it just wouldn't start on warm or cold setting (choke/no choke. If I manually pulled at the throttle just a little it sputtered once and died. I followed this video and cleaned out the carb jets (they did not look too dirty) and cleaned out the bowl (there was some residue in it) as well as checked the spark plug (it was fine). After this maintenance it started right up so thanks for making this video and saving me a repair charge!

Thanks for the very informative video.. Excellent and thank you!! My Suburu pw is fairly new and sat for a year. Instead of taking things apart, I removed the bolt on bottom of carburetor bowl and inserted a wire (a bread closure wire stripped 3"" or so) into the main jet which was clogged apparently. Emptied old gas and got some 100% non ethanol gas and it started right up.. I also bought a new carburetor on Amazon for16.99 after seeing it takes about 15 minutes to replace it with only two bolts..

I don't know anything about small engines, but I followed your video and to my amazement, it runs again. I was only able to get the first/smaller part of the jet out, though. At least it runs now. Thanks for the video! I'll be looking into this tonight for my troubled pressure washer. Have you seen any ignition coil issues with the EA190V? I've pulled the plug (before and after trying to start it) and the plug has a little gas on it, so I'm pretty sure that it's ignition. I grounded the plug to the engine cover and it has no spark most times and a fairly weak spark every now and then. The plug doesn't appear fouled, just a little dirty.

Alex Becker this is a little dangerous, but try taking plug wire off and jamming a screwdriver into it. They ground the screwdriver and pull cord a few times. You should see small sparkles on the screwdriver. If there is no sparking then you need new ignition coil

Hi I have oil and gas come out of the exhaust when I try to start it after the winter season. It also works only on the choke . Please advise.

gas has overflowed from the carb into the oil compartment. You will need to clean/service the carburetor and fuel tank, and change the oil.

Hello Jeff. Just saw this video. I have this almost same pressure washer. Mine has the yamaha ma190 engine. My problem is it starts, runs rough on choke and run. When I place in run and pull trigger, it dies. I have cleaned carb, except for the jets like you did. I replaced fuel lines, cleaned fuel filters and even added an online filter. Cleaned gas tank, changed plug and cleaned air filter. I also pulled the unloader valve yesterday and cleaned it up, reinstalled and it ran better. It never shut off when pulling trigger, but still ran rough. Any ideas? Will cleaning the jets make a difference? Please help!!! Garland

Have you ever worked on the Simpson MSV 3024? My pump got screwed up by hitting a curb. I need to replace it. I have all the screws/bolts out, but don't know how to separate the pump from the engine shaft. If I can't figure that out, I am going to buy one of these Subarus and take the Simpson to recycling.

Hammer on the broken pump or spray it with pb blaster, that worked for me. Be sure not to lose the flywheel key.

I have the same costco subaru model.. It seems to be a really twitchy setup. Always has been right from the start. Cleaning the carb and disassembling as much as possible had it working again, and not leaking gas from the bowl, but it only runs with the choke on too. On mine, it won't allow me to release the main jet. It feels entirely fused.. Even with a well fitting screwdriver, it's only gouging the brass and not turning. Replacement carbs that reference to that engine don't use the same choke setup that the costco build has.. I'm hoping the stems can be transferred over, or the choke isn't going to function. No idea why that main jet is so fried and stuck? It's been the least hard wearing engined tool I've ever owned. Always found myself hating auto chokes, but, here I am with this one being somewhat manual, albeit either on or off, only to have it be the biggest pain in the ass.

I just got a Black MAX with Subaru EA175. Which pump guard fluid do you recommend? I am in FL, how often would I need to do this?
