This video saved me over $1k. I was moving across the country when my solenoid started going out. Was quoted $1850 to fix it. With the help of this vid and a lucky memorial parts sale at Subaru. Was able to fix my car for $750 full service including a cvt fluid change. If you read these comments thanks a bunch dude! Appreciated!

Thank you for your time making this video. We bought a 2015 Forester new with the 580 CVT, our first experience with CVTs. From new there was a 2-3 second delay when shifting from forward to reverse or forward. First experience with CVT we though it was rather inconvenient but a trait of theirs transmission design. At 99,975 miles we got the light show on the dash and after reading the codes ordered a valve body from Subarupartsdeals. After watching this video 2 times I replaced the valve body. The shift delay is gone and the mileage seems to have increased a bit. I appreciate you giving the parts numbers and the torque values in the video. You made this a quite easy repair and saved us a bunch of money. Thank you.

Thanks man, I bought just the solenoid on eBay and did it today. Fixed it! Had a little extra fluid around, recently did a 5 quart change. Just added it in the top. Easy way I found to get the cover off was used the ground wire bolt with the 12mm head and fasten down the box end of a wrench and pull up. If you do just the solenoid be prepared for the ground connector to break. Ez fix on that though.

Do you mind if I ask what your symptoms were for your bad solenoid? I'm considering this as a potential fix myself for extreme delayed shifting and gear slippage at stops. Can you replace just the solenoid, or do you need to buy the entire valve body assembly like the video shows?

Great video. Some small differences for my 2015 Outback Limited (no pitch stopper, but it does have the bracket), TCM is on top of the valve body cover, and the wiring harness includes ALL of the associated wires, so you can't just disconnect the cables and lift the cover off. So what I did was once I could remove the cover, I disconnected the connecter inside the VB, unscrewed the round connector on the top of the cover, and fished the connector up through. Just about everything else was identical. Saved me a significant amount of $$$. Thanks for the video!

My wife's 2013 impreza sport just had all the lights on the dash light up while driving. Local garage diagnosed a weak solenoid in the valve body. They referred the replacement to the dealer. On contact the dealer quoted $1,900 for the valve body replacement and a total of $2,500 for the job. Only have 175,000 kms on the vehicle and have changed the transmission fluid twice. My wife drives very conservatively. Sorta pissed at Subaru right now. We had a mazda for 15 years that ran like brand new after 260,000 kms and is still running well and being driven by a family member. Never had any issues with that vehicle. Almost seems like Subaru are engineered to fail. We won't be buying another Subaru that's for sure.

My 2020 Subaru Ascent went to dealer 7/29 for trans recall. We found out that afternoon that we would be getting a new transmission. On 8/1 the service advisor advised that the new transmission was installed, BUT they didn’t have any trans fluid and they had been unable to track a shipment of fluid that was on order so they have no idea about when we would get our vehicle back. Not all bad as they put us in a brand new 22 Ascent that had just 4 miles on the odometer. Nonetheless, would prefer to get our vehicle back. Apparently, they have several other owners also awaiting fluid.

@Timber1262
@Timber1262 Жыл бұрын
If changing the trans fluid. drain the fluid first and measure the amount take out. before installing the new valve body. pour the new fluid same qty as removed plus about 1/2 pint more. This should get you very very close to the correct level. Then install the new valve body. close up the trans. start the car and warm it up to temp. Check the fluid level underneath at the correct point and let any extra spill out into a catch pan.

If I had the time, I might have been able to source one from the US. Basically, if you need a valve body up here, it's set up so you have to get the work done by a dealer. This video is a lifesaver. I just had my 2012 Subaru with the TR580 CVT throw codes P0700 and P2764 over the weekend. We were 100 miles from home, and my son in law rented a car hauler and picked us up from the side of the road, so I drove less than 8 miles (to find a pull off on a 2 lane highway) after the car started throwing errors. Once I was home and in the garage, I pulled the codes. This morning the local Subaru dealer told me for these codes it would be $5000 to replace both the valve body and torque converter, claiming that the torque converter had to be coming apart to cause the valve body solenoid failure. From this video and others, it sure seems the dealer is feeding me some bull. I am mostly happy to see that the valve body can be replaced without having the car on a lift, meaning I can do it myself. Could there be any truth to what the dealer told me over the phone about the torque converter falling apart and causing this code? The car only has 115K miles on it...

This is also another good example ( as All of your video's are ) of why in the eyes of just about any dealership *You Will Never Be a Good Service Tech For Them.* You will Never make enough money to satisfy them. *Wear This Like A Badge Of Honor". They charge $150/hr. for full book hrs but demand the tech slam the job out in half time or less. You are too Thorough and Focused . . . as you should be and . . . We hope you never change. They want $peed at a level which *cannot be done unless the tech cuts every corner possible* for maximum profit and in many cases afterwards the car Is Still As Broke as when it came in. On top of that you may find something else is broke or is breaking soon after. Gotta Love Little Johnny . . . The tech's are pissed that they don't make enough $$$ and . . . probably don't. Nationwide they are perhaps in need of 3,000 tech's and many of those who are still on the job need to be Closely Re Evaluated and/or Retrained. Also, some sort of Local Gov't QC Insp. for Dealership Repairs needs to be created and I mean $$$ome kind of QC with Teeth in it. *But That's Just Me and My Stupid Way of Thinking*

Fantastic! Subaru replaced my valve body a few years ago and now the seal is leaking transmission fluid. I'm going to replace the gasket using your excellent instruction and I will replace the CVT fluid also. But I'm not touching the valve box so will I have to do any reprogramming?

Is the relearning procedure that's in the CVT fluid change video necessary? I suspect mine is going bad, and the cost of everything combined (from a shop) is painful. I don't even have a proper scan tool either. Do you have one you would recommend that won't kill the wallet?

What symptoms were you experiencing that prompted this repair? Codes don’t always show immediately. Thanks.

I have codes p0971 c1431 c1411 c1957 c1956 c1742 c1741 on 2017 Subaru Outback. Today out of nowhere christmas tree dash appeared. Drove fine. 170,000 miles never touched transmission. Is sensor or valve body on top or bottom on my 2.5i? Ive seen videos where it seems to be both maybe? Going to try myself. I am mechanically inclined and have all the torque wrenches etc to reassemble.

You can actually leave the throttle body in place. There's plenty of room. Good job!

For the TR690 and the Throttle Body, can you just undo the 4 x 10mm bolts and remove the Throttle abody without clamping off the coolant hoses? I want to clean the full T.B. and replace the gasket withouthaving to buy two hose clamps

After valve body replacement can 2018 Subaru Outback drive 25 miles to dealer to do transmission fluid change and relearn? I’m concerned transmisión won’t work without relearn.

Keep up these videos! I've been following for some time now and you have saved me a significant amount of money. Curious if this same valve body is in 2013 subaru outback? I know other years its the TR690, but from some reading its very conflicting. curious what you think!

What are the pliers that you removed the electrical connections called? They look handy and less likely to break old brittle plastic.
