Thanks for this! FYI, Japanese (JIS) screwdrivers will help prevent stripping those Phillips heads. The JIS version is built differently and grips better. I stripped screws on Japanese motorcycles for decades before learning this.

thank you so much for posting this video! i had the same exact noise you described in my Subaru Forester 2005 and i followed your instructions and while I could not get the screw out because it wore through I was still able to tighten the clamp over the top and successfully fixed the issue!

I could only get one of the screws out. The other 5 stripped out and ended up punching a hole through the door so I had to buy a whole new door! When installing the new door it smashed my subframe so now I'm looking for a donor car or maybe a whole new car because I don't even like Subaru. Remember to lube those screws. Thanks for the vid!

There's no need to remove the mirrors, and any pliers with relatively broad "jaws" will work, I've seen people effectively do it with their hands. The gussets don't "wear" as such, they get bent out of shape due to people pushing on the window to close the doors. Being a "frameless" design, if you push on the glass all the stress goes into that small gusset, and it distorts the metal. If you can train yourself (and family I guess?) to always never push on the glass, it'll never happen again

I was only able to get 3 out of 6 screws out. I was starting to strip a few and didn't want to push it any further. Wish I would have seen the JIS Screwdriver tip before I started. Oh well. I still was able to get the job done with both mirrors attached and using the vice grips!

@boostedfilms ive done about all the techniques including yours just pressing hard together with hands.. not sure if i suceeded.. i mean it seems like at 100km/h theres less overall wind noise but at 120 its still quite strong. guess its better. did u manage to eliminate the wind noise all together or just partially like 70%?
@triplebutted
@triplebutted 4 жыл бұрын
You can shim the window with a bit of adhesive Silicone Door seal. Eliminates the wind noise and you can still have baller frameless doors. check out this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/ioe9dH5vbd9ppLM

@@BoostedFilms right. But in general those short screw drivers don’t provide a lot of torque. I fixed mine with only removing the inside cover. Took five minutes max both sides
