thanks for posting this!! the wiring is the scariest thing about the conversion
@Busaru9 жыл бұрын
+23v0lv32 The wiring is DEFINITELY the most intimidating part of the conversion. It's not terribly hard but first timers will probably make a couple mistakes - but then you find and fix the mistakes :) Good luck and let me know if you need some help. Cheers!

+Busaru can you please tell me if a harness from a 96 outback 2.2 manual will work on my 98 2.2 auto impreza? im looking mainly to replace the section contsining maf wire and the shielded knock sensor wire.

Very good. For the mechanically-minded, and not so much the electronically-minded, this video starts to bring-in the knowledge needed to DIY. Thanks, Mick!

This is a pretty basic vid showing how to remove the harness. I have a 2000 harness that I'll be doing in more detail as this seems to be the most intimidating part of the swap to most folks. Stay tuned!

If I go on the Subaru website and order the wire harness would that work for this conversion

This is an awesome video. Thank you for posting it. How does the 1995 harness compare against the 1997 harness?
@Busaru9 жыл бұрын
Just about the same really. 90-94 they are a little different but 95+ is about the same.

it seems from your video that the fat grey wires, 3 wires inside sheathed in grey with one copper wire not sheathed, in harness next to harness with engine plugs, where do these grey sheathing wires go, cause i cut them some. thanks. you can see them at 8:17 in your video.
@Busaru8 жыл бұрын
+Jim Kelly The shielded wires are usually for the cam and crank sensors. If you've knicked the sheathing then you can just patch it up with some tape but if the wires are actually cut then I'd look at either soldering or butt splicing the connection, insulating, then making sure the grounded shield is looking good.

+Busaru I removed the harness from the legacy about a month ago and have it in a box since then. I looked it over a few days ago and it seems what I saw matches what you are saying. I have to look at it again but I have loose ends, must have cut them or pulled them out of the ecu plugs, not sure. at least they are fixable, I was panicing when I saw these weirder wires cut and exposed : ) thanks. gonna be putting the ej22 and harness into a Porsche 914. do you have a website that I can email you from with pics as I proceed?

How are you coming on the resto-mod? Do you have any videos of the finished project? :)
@Busaru10 жыл бұрын
Its pretty much finished. The engine is in and running like a top. There are a couple videos of it running up some mountains and around Durango Colorado. I'm going to do a final video showing some of the final items, but that's all I have planned for this bus. The next project is an 85 Vanagon Westfalia Subaru 2.5L swap.

Busaru What are you planning to do with the 85 Vanagon?
@forthwithtx585210 жыл бұрын
That's what I'm talking about!
@jasoncarpp774210 жыл бұрын
Forthwith Tx Yeah, yeah. The engine swap. Sweet! I look forward to seeing videos about it. Until I saw these videos you've posted, I didn't know it was possible to convert an air-cooled VW to water-cooling, much less swap a Subaru engine.

would a 2001 outback with EJ25 work for the conversion?
@Busaru6 жыл бұрын
Absolutely.
@marcodelguidice26999 жыл бұрын
How similar is an ej25 harness?
@Busaru9 жыл бұрын
Similar, but the ecu will be under the passengers foot rest and the bulk of the harness will go through the firewall and not the front left fender well.
@marcodelguidice26999 жыл бұрын
That sounds easier to pull. I don't have a small car diagram yet so I'm plan on trying to not cut as much as possible

Get yourself the ecu pinout, it'll help more than anything else, and it's free online! If you're unsure about something, just shoot me an email with a pic and I'll be glad to help. Boxermick@boxerswaps.com
