It's great to see videos like these. I have a Vanagon/t3 with a 2000 ej25 conversion. I'm watching your videos to try and make sense of the wiring! Luckily, I'm seeing a lot of similarities already. I can't get my old port to communicate at the moment, iv changed the pins in the port, but iv found some fuses with the loom and ECU, so I'm going to have a look at those next. Keep up the good work, very informative.

A good tool to cut the tape from the harness is a seam ripper for sewing.

Hello, thank you very much for sharing, I really like your videos. I have a question, what happens if the donor is an automatic car? or does it have to be a stick shift car? for the computer to work? I would also like to know if I can buy a modified harness together with the EMC ready to install it on my BUS.

Chuyrock1, right on! Thanks for the kind words - much appreciated. To answer your question, most of our donors are actually from Automatic Subies. For Autos, you ground a certain pin on the ECM to put the ECM into "Manual" mode. Off hand, it's commonly pin 81 if I'm not mistaken, but you should go by the Pinout for your ECM to be sure. To answer your other question, yes you can! We have about a dozen on the shelf right now, and if you go to modernbay.co/shop/wiring-harnesses/wiring-harness-conversion-service/ you can price it out and purchase a full setup. Thanks so much,

I picked up 2000 Subaru forester harness and am left with a lot of orphaned wires the ecu pin out that i have not sure if it's the correct one. do you use a specific one.

What about the ignition key.. do you need the key barrel for the computer to run engine?

Great question! If you're running [generally] pre-2005 USDM Subarus that are drive-by-cable instead of drive-by-wire, you don't need items such as the key barrel, or the body-integrated unit and gauge cluster that all need to be matched to the coded ECM on later model vehicles. If you do use later model, CANBUS donors, you'll need some or all of those additional items. That's why we generally stick with pre-2005 models!

I used the busaru videos for my ej25 DOHC and then, for the ej25 SOHC, I just sent it to him, fwiw. But this video was not around when I locked myself in the basement to focus on this. I think 64 pounds becomes 17 !

Andy, thanks for commenting! Glad to hear you're converting your bus - you won't regret it. Regarding the wiring, generally what you do is look at the ECM Pinout and eliminate anything that isn't essential for engine running. That said, it's a bit more complex than that.
