Hey guys this is my 2003 WRX and I have done some pretty big upgrades on it and I am just trying to show what all I did on it and if you have any questions feel free to ask. Parts list:
Injen Short Ram Intake
Blouch TD06 18G Turbo Internal Wastegate Ceramic Coated hotside (Courtesy of Tanner @ www.rallysportdirect.com call him and he will take great care of you)
JDM Large TMIC (20x11.5x4.5) 3 times the capacity of an STi Intercooler.
JDM 4 into 1 Ceramic Coated header and flex pipe (cheap ebay part with GREAT quality)
Quick Time Performance Downpipe with Electric Cut out to OEM Mid pipe and Stock exhaust from there back. (cut out open this car sounds AMAZING!!!!!)
Fuel System Upgrade:
Perrin V2 Fuel Rails (these are incredible! Great fit and amazing flow I absolutely recommend these rails)
DW 650CC Injectors
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
According to the pro-tuner I took my car to this system with the fuel rails can support up to 450whp before I need to change the injectors which is CRAZY.
Also I have the AEM UEGO Wideband AFR Gauge with the AEM Oil Temp AEM Oil Pressure (awaiting adapter for install) and AEM EGT Analog Gauge.
Let me know if you have any questions regarding the install or anything I will be uploading the rest of the videos showing the install process of my upgrades but I am sure those won't cover everything. I did all of the work myself in less than 2 weeks in my garage so trust me I can answer your questions lol.

No I dont have stock internals anymore. I ran them for over a year with 346whp and 326tq with no problems. I just wanted more power so I built a 2.5 hybrid. The usdm 2.0 is a little under rated. With a good tune running methanol they are a solid performer.

@TheBeerBox80 Thanks man. It's changed a little since then though I have added an APS DR 525 FMIC and meth injection and 1-4 PPG Straight Cut gears full billet syncro's and shift forks the whole 9 yards. I got it dyno'd the other day and it made 345whp 311wtq on the USDM 2.0 and it runs like a champ. For these 2.0's it's all about the tune.

I've got a TD05 20G making 22psi and i'm still using the stock air bypass valve through a stock STi intercooler which is plenty good up to c.420bhp. You will have to go to a decent front mount to better the STi intercooler as many larger topmounts are less efficient even though bigger. Size isn't everything ;o) Ceramic coating your headers/exhaust is the right way to go but it's more to do with keeping heat in the exhaust to promote faster turbo spoolup.

@rextuner03 That sounds about right on the TD06 18G... It's a good turbo and from what I've seen, reliable. I've seen cars pushing (although barely) up to 430~ out of them. Hope your build goes well.

@cheukchan Yes you can use your stock ECU you just need an open source tune application on a laptop with an OBD2 connector like the Cobb AP uses. I spent $175 on the protune and my car runs great. Depending on whether you have any protuners in your area will make the difference on whether you should get the cobb ap or not. What mods do you have and what year wrx/sti?

@LouisBurleson There is a little dock that you attach to the intake and run it though there. It's the main supply to the engine so you can see it running in but I didn't highlight it in this vid. These fuel rails are good but they are a bitch to install lol.

@scoobiewrx Since this vid I have gotten my car completely tuned and idles much better. My car was running on low boost mode and having no problems running lean or anything. When I drive I vary between 12:1 to 14:1 which ideal when under boost. And as far as running the stock air box that is your choice if you want to run that. Granted it's not a big hp gain but I didn't pay much for it so it's all good. I know enough about my car that it definately won't go "pop" by any means.

@elemento1991 Mine is working just fine and it's been over a year. I have another sensor laying around just in case I need to replace it. According to the instructions from AEM it should be placed 8 to 16 inches away from the turbo which mine is right around 8-9 inches away so it should be good.

@EdSabbath Yeah a full motor build 2.5L Hybrid with Kelford 272 cams all forged internals and I am not sure on the turbo yet. According to Blouch the TD06 18G 8cm turbo can support 400whp so I will probably just stick with that when I do my build.

@tegagsr it is a really nice turbo! It dhs spool a but late though, I got it knowing I would go with a built 2.5eventually. So for the 2.0 I would stick with a big 16G or smaller, I don't get boost until around 4k rpm so unless you want all to end then I would stick with something a little smaller. Fuel rails are a must if you want to keep cylinder #3 from leaning out. You can use the stock ones but it's a gamble
@rextuner03
@rextuner03 14 жыл бұрын
@scoobiewrx Actually I have done quite a bit of tuning on these cars for years. I have seen WRX's with 800hp run the same bypass valve and have had no problems at all just like me. I haven't had any problems with anything that I have done and I have some mods that weren't entirely needed at this point in preparation for future mods. I know I didn't HAVE to do the fuel rails and stuff but I did it just for the simple reason that i was in there so I should get it done so I don't need to later.
@scoobiewrx
@scoobiewrx 14 жыл бұрын
To properly keep underbonnet temps down you need a proper heatshield that completely covers the turbo, generally made with flexible reflecting material and thick fireproof backing. I'd be more worried about your internals going pop than your gearbox or clutch. It sounds like you either have a tactrix cable and you've flashed your ECU with a ROM someone has sent you or that you've downloaded, not a full custom roadtune done specifically for your car.

@damansti Yeah the check engine was part of the fuel system there was an EVAP line that wasn't on all the way. Reset and it was fine, the car has even more done now. FMIC and meth injection with new engine managment. The car on the factory internal 2.0L I am making 360whp and 311wtq :) it is running so well it's crazy!
@rextuner03

@ty922 Well for one I wanted to try and keep it a sleeper and a front mount is a dead give away. And cost was another motivator. And then the front mounts as you probably know increase turbo lag and they don't gain much more hp than a good top mount and a hood scoop. This intercooler has about the same efficiency as a lot of front mounts unless you go to the massive ones lol. I am very happy with the performance! I ran a 12.0 @ 114 the other day and that was with my clutch slipping.
@rextuner03

@rextuner03
@rextuner03 13 жыл бұрын
@cheukchan 300-320whp is pushing it for a 16G turbo. I would go with the Big 16G if you are set on getting one of those. It can make that kind of power and still be pretty efficient but not be so big that it's really laggy. Another good turbo is the IHI VF22 it spools up by 3500 rpm and holds all the way to your redline which makes a big difference when you race. So yeah the 16G can do it but it's getting to max it out making 300whp or 400 crank hp.
@rextuner03
@rextuner03 14 жыл бұрын
@scoobiewrx And no I don't know EXACTLY what I am making but it is easy to guess when you know your mods and what people generally gain with their mods. Like I said some mods were done in preparation for future mods. Running the injectors and pump that I am running I would have problems with the classic lean out of cylinder 3. And at the time I did this video my car wasn't completely tuned when I shot this vid so I had problems with my cold idle. It is now up and running with having no problems.

@madscanman1 I am not sure, what year and model is your car? and being in the UK are you just messing up the conversion to mph from kph? But my downpipe is the same as everyone else makes a 3 and a half inch diameter which is standard for pretty much all downpipes. If you have the stock gear ratio and no mods to the internals to increase the redline. Then there is just no way that you could hit over 70mph without destroying your car.

@theungrateful34 It's right in the neighborhood of 300whp. Which is the max recommended whp for the USDM WRX. You car has all forged internals so you can rock over 400whp on yours easy. Unless you are running more than 350whp you don't need to upgrade the STi topmount. By going to the FMIC you would get a lot more turbo lag. But hey to each is own.

@dunit9696 The one that I have I got off of Ebay the measurements are 20"x11.5"x4 1/2" they sell them on there all the time and they are pretty cheap. People will make you shy away from Ebay parts but I think buying intakes and stuff is fine just don't buy a turbo off of ebay lol. This intercooler is perfectly fine you will have some issuse with fitament so make sure to take your time and put it in as gently as possible so you don't bend any of your AC lines on the firewall.

@rextuner03
@rextuner03 14 жыл бұрын
@tibu266 Yeah if you spray your intercooler it's after your turbo between the turbo and the intake so it would take a shit load to make a difference lol. I know plenty of guys that have done it and they haven't gotten very good results. But he to each is own.
@rextuner03
@rextuner03 14 жыл бұрын
@tibu266 yeah it's easily possible to go too big on your turbo. I get full boost with my turbo around 4k rpm range and thats with the TD06 housing and the 8cm exhaust side. Slow to come to boost but when it does it pulls hard.
@rextuner03
@rextuner03 14 жыл бұрын
@tibu266 Yeah the EJ20's can get to around 400-425 crank hp before they pop. Or that would be around 300-325 whp which I am right around 310whp and I LOVE it. I can beat quite a few cars on the road and nobody sees it coming lol. They are great motors but limited because the stock rods just aren't very strong. I have heard of a few people getting 350whp out of them but that is with FLAWLESS tuning and high octane gas.

......and i forgot to add.......my car makes over 400bhp and i'm still using the stock airbox with a snuokus delete. That's it. You don;t have to go OTT to make solid reliable power all day long. Like most....you'll learn the hard way. Good luck!! :O))
@rextuner03
@rextuner03 14 жыл бұрын
@scoobiewrx ALSO There is a difference on the US STi vs WRX bypass valve because the STi is running a bigger turbo and larger intercooler capacity and the stock wrx valve can't hold it end of story. If you are just modding out the stock turbo with intake exhaust and tune then yeah you are fine but once you upgrade your turbo you should upgrade the valve. Especially considering I am eventually going to build up to a GT35R turbo kit looking to hit 600whp+ along with head and cam work.

@BialyOrzel777 At normal temp I am around 800rpm idle. I went and got an open source tune. I am not worried about dyno numbers so that's no big deal to me. The only thing that I worry about is how the car runs well and if I am 10whp shy of what I could be then so be it. UTEC is ok for just standard mods but honestly if I were you I would junk it and find a good reputable tuner and have them tune your car for you.

@tibu266 Just an FYI a FMIC will hurt his performance unless he is going with a big turbo like a GT30 or GT35. I am running the TMIC as you can see and my friend has basically the exact same set up on his 03 WRX but he has a FMIC and I am faster than him because I don't have turbo lag. I get full boost at 3,500rpm and he gets it a 4,500rpm. Once we get going then we run the same of course but a large TMIC doesn't have any draw backs other than heat soak from sitting at lights.

But also i totally agree, he told me he did over 150mph in 4th and claimed to be dead serious which I knew unless he had a higher rev limit then it wasn't possible. I can hit 130mph in 4th at 7,000 so there must be a little bit of a different in gear ratio. I know the final drive is 3.9 on ALL models but I know i hit 130mph at the top of 4th. With limiter at 132mph until i tuned it.

rextuner03 wrote to me via email......... My reply................ IMHO Forge Bypass valves are rubbish. Every single one i have come across has given problems of one sort or another, not to mention sending AFR's rich in between gear changes. The stock air bypass valve will take a lot more that 18psi boost and should be good for well over 400bhp. They don't leak and it's a good bit of kit.
@scoobiewrx

The other chap is very likely winding you up as he probably well knows that you would have to be doing 8000rpm (156mph) for that to be true, and i know that car doesn't rev to 8000rpm because i mapped it!! At 7000rpm you'll be doing 137mph in 4th which is certainly achievable based on 3.9 final drive and 0.972 4th gear ratios. Hope this clears that up. As for vids....i don't have to prove a thing as i already walk the walk for a living, every single day!!

@scoobiewrx I do have a heat shield over my turbo I just took it off for the vid so you could see the turbo. Also you are thinking of the stock STi bypass valve as opposed to my 03 WRX which is not an STi. The WRX stock valves begin to leak with 18psi from the stock turbo much less a TD06 18G that flows around 600cfm it wouldn't hold up. So I think you should get your facts straight before you start being a Mr. Knowitall jack ass.
@rextuner03
@rextuner03 14 жыл бұрын
@madscanman1 My redline is still the stock rpm and if you are running an 18g turbo at 22-23psi then there is no way in hell that the 565 injectors would NOT be enough to power that. I know you have internals done and if you have your cams and stuff done then there is no way in hell you would get enough fuel into your system, therefore you would run lean and melt your internals which you told me you did. I know these cars inside and out and your story doesn't match up.

Finally, you don't have a clue what power/torque your car makes until you've stuck it on a rolling road or have road dyno software on a laptop to give you a guestimate of what the car is making (WHP) so your figures until then are made up. It's clear you don't know Subaru's inside out, really haven't done your homework, and have carried out unneccessary work on your car for little gain. You're not a rextuner are you. @madscanman1 I have no clue what in the hell you are talking about half the time because you regurgitate all this random shit about your car and how fast it is. And my car could smash a whole straight through yours more than likely. I just ran a 12.0 at 114 at the track. Yeah there is a chance you might be faster than that but not much.

@twist6909 Did I say I have a lot? And I can smoke both of your cars :D And it's funny you call me a child, yet you are the one that went to all my videos to talk shit because I corrected your shitty grammar. So Mr. 4 Houses and 2 cars you are such a pinnacle of achievement. How can you live in 4 houses? lmao. Besides you don't have a clue what I have, I keep my personal life to myself on the web when you brag about it online it just makes you seem like a douche bag. So YOU'RE a douche bag.

What's bad business is the shit you're doing to your poor car. I wouldn't say that was a bad tune, more fecking awful!! Now then....get back to polishing your turds...sorry i meant headlights, that'll make it go a bit quicker eh!! fpmsl
