I own a 70,000 mole 2012 xv. Between 62k and 70k I have replaced all 4 wheel bearing, front wishbones, front and rear struts, main drive shaft, removed plastic under trays and every brake line hangar is rotten, most metal is not rust treated and rotting. An abs heap of crap and 25mpg best.

XV in the UK is hybrid only now. Best Subaru model to get now is the Outback. A superb 2.5 NA engine. A car for everything. I know because I got one. The hybrid models are not worth the money.

They're not as tough as they make themselves out to be, and the majority of their official dealerships here in the UK don't seem to be set up for anything more strenuous than a panel smoothing or re-tune. A month after pick-up of my ex-demo Crosstrek '24, Eye Sight shut down. Turns out my front wheels are all out of alignment. Dealership blames a parking-speed impact on an alloy wheel against the corner of a low brick wall for it. Which happened three weeks prior. They can't fix it because they're worried there's "hidden damage", and they're not "Subaru Body Approved". An official dealership. Not approved to work on Subarus. They might as well be a valeting service. Compounded by the fact they didn't know what to do next - They told me to drive my safety-disabled car with "hidden damage" to another dealership "Who have the facilities we lack". Turns out after lengthy phone calls, They're not "Subaru body approved" either. My dealership promise to phone me back w a solution/where to go. They don't. So I contact Subaru UK. Who reply by email saying yes it's your fault because your dealership says so, contact your insurance company they'll have a list of Subaru Body Approved workshops. I reply w choice words lol, but also chastise them for their lousy customer service and why won't they supply me w a list of SBA workshops. Because, you guessed it, my insurance company arranges pick up w a recovery and workshop service, who my dealership then says, You're not Subaru Body Approved! You'll void all the warranties....The recovery service phones me, asking me what to do. I say , talk to the insurance company - Let them fight against Subaru to get service for my car. Thinking of getting a Subaru in the UK. or indeed in any "boutique" market in Europe? Just *don't*. If something goes wrong (and c'mon, it's a soft offroader so you're likely going to physically stress the car more, leading to a higher probability of there being a problem), you will be in trouble. It's just not worth the potential aggro.

Difference between AWD and 4WD, Google says "Both cars drive all four wheels so in one sense there is no difference except that AWD has become an accepted description for a car that drives all of the wheels, all of the time. ... 4WD is normally used on large SUV Four-Wheel Drive (4x4) vehicles designed to use the extra traction of 4WD in off road situations." You are just being pedantic.

@@lordcris Lets concentrate on what is important - execution. Subaru used to be the leader in the class. Now, while the competition is improving, Subaru is cutting tech - less power, no LSDs, no active torque delivery, just brakes being used.

So annoying that CVT gearboxes are being fitted to so many cars. I haven't read a good review about them. Fitted purely for emissions and economy, never for driving pleasure. Unreliable as well. Surprised the reviewer doesn't comment about the gearbox?
@oddities-whatnot5 жыл бұрын
matthew1355 CVTs unreliable ? Far less to go wrong than a traditional auto box. Please read up on DSG failures. As for driving pleasure, some people prefer two pedals instead of three, makes it more relaxing in town traffic, and on the motorway, the CVT keeps the revs low for long distance comfort. Not sure why youre even watching this video if the car and gearbox bores you.
@matthew13555 жыл бұрын
I watched it until the gearbox was mentioned. All I can say in reply is Google CVT gearbox problems. The technology is just not reliable and the drive is not enjoyable unless you drive in the city and at low speed. Just my opinion after research. I was going to buy a Nissan X trail until I read the negative pres about the CVT.
@robertgreen82135 жыл бұрын
@@matthew1355 Owned 4 cars with CVT totalling over 450,000 km. Three Mitsubishi's and one Subaru.....no problems whatsoever with any of the gearboxes. Just my (real world) opinion of course.
@TheSpoovy5 жыл бұрын
I own the same model as in this vid (2.0l) and love the CVT; you get no loss of momentum at gear change as there are non, just plenty of predictable power. Reviewers generally all just copy each other and complain about perceived lack of acceleration (based on flawed perception) and object to the sound of the engine revving (sorry but if you don't like the sound of an engine revving you're in the wrong game!). ;) Also the reliability issues were with the earlier belt-driven ones from my reading; current versions including Subaru's use a chain and have no such problems.
