I have one of these (same config as he tested too, 2016 double cab short box TRD Sport 4x4 in Blazing Blue) with a manual transmission, it's fantastic. It corners and rides great for a 4x4 truck, seats four comfortably, a reverse facing child seat fits behind the passenger seat, my four wheeler fits in the box, it tows my 5000 lbs travel trailer well. It has bluetooth audio, navigation, heated seats and mirrors, wireless charging, blind spot monitors, rear cross traffic alert, a sunroof, a composite bed, color matched trim and it costs $10K less than a comparably equipped full size truck. Most importantly, with a manual it is fun to drive!

I love the 5' bed with my 6 speed manual. I had an '07 DCSB for 3.5 years and now a '16 DCSB for over a year and not once have I ever wished that I bought the 6' bed. I've done multiple moves, multiple home reno projects, hauled my four wheeler, taken over two dozen camping trips and never needed a 6' bed. Do you really think that an extra 20% of length radically changes usefulness of the bed? Meanwhile, the short box truck fits easily in my garage, weighs less (better mileage and handling) and is easier to maneuver in tight places. I'm not sure why you're criticizing the composite bed, it's one of the great things about the truck and I don't understand why more manufacturers haven't copied the idea. It's strong, light, easy to clean, looks fantastic and it never rusts.

I've had mine for a few years. I didn't get a 4 wheel drive because even now (few days before 2019) I never once was in a position in needing to say "I should have gotten the 4x4 model" so that would have been a 6 grand useless function for me. It does everything I need, and I even got 27 mpg out of it a couple times (81 south for a few hours despite, and I have the V6). I needed to use the bed a lot but I don't work out of my truck. I'd have changed a few things such as you don't get much leg room in the back seats, Suspension is good, has decent acceleration if you have the ect power on, and we'll, does everything you need. Almost bought a Dodge truck instead until I drove this. Now, I don't recommend it if you need an 8 foot bed, but at least look at the Tundras if you do

I've had my 2016 Tacoma for almost 3 months now. Very nice truck, comfortable interior while still feeling like a rugged truck. 4WD gets you through snow with zero problems. I've had 23mpg from going for drives through country road. City commutes to work gets me about 16mpg.

I wonder if it's possible that the key fob can be manually programmed to open all doors? I was told that for my commuter car, the default selection was to open only the driver's door as a safety issue. I guess the logic was that if you were a female getting into the car at night, it wouldn't allow someone to have automatic access to the passenger doors. If I hold the buttons on the key fob in a certain sequence, it reprograms it to allow all doors to open at once. Does that make sense?

The toyota website says the Sport upgraded model has the wireless charging, but also includes the moon roof. I notice yours doesn't have the moon roof but you have the wireless charging. Why is that?

The Tacoma is too big. Not sure at this point why you'd go with that over the Tundra. They used to be nice and compact, now they're huge, like most vehicles...same story :(.

I've been driving mine for 3 months and I still can't get used to the size. I had a previous generation and squeezed it everywhere but this one has a deceiving size, I think it has to do with the bigger hoodscoop and all the bulky humps and inclines and such on the hood.

he said, the sport model is lifted higher than the other model trims, that is false. sport will have the hood scoop. and bottom chin spoiler for better aero. Bilstein shocks tuned for "sport" TRD off road will have Bilstein's too but tuned for "off road" 2017 Tacoma TRD PRO coming out later in the year. will be lifted 1" with Fox shocks tuned by the TRD department. and progressive rear leafsprings and Fox/TRD shocks in the rear.

I been driving a rental 2016 for over 2 months and test driving the newer models. The new tacomas with the 3.5 liter engines are sluggish and you need to really pedal to get proper acceleration. I can take a 2000's model and do wheelies around the newer ones before the new ones pick enough speed. If that's tocomas programing, they need to get it fixed. Reving the engine everyday to blend with traffic (yeah accelerating up 5 mph), sound like a race car, gosh I'm not even towing anything yet. My old 2004 tows a boat and accelerates without a whine.

You said that your a manual transmission person, right?), but way sportier than the Renegade, of which my question is, "When will the review come out?" The unlock issue is solved by changing the settings on the media screen. Just change it to unlock all doors instead of driver side only. You made a big deal about something that isn't a problem at all. Just bought the same truck with the tech package and rear wheel drive. I LOVE IT!!! I've gotten a lot of double takes from people on the road.

Decent review. I think the off road model will have a softer ride with the bilstein shocks so you may not feel every bump in the off road model. One big problem with all of these trucks is how easy can you park them, hence visibility lines, length and turning radius. I would like to see that more often for these 4 door trucks which is the reason a lot of buyers turn to a shorter SUV; is to be able to park in their garage and for ease of parking in tight lots for shopping. My 4 wheel steer truck was awesome for that, it was always a pleasure to park it or pull tight turns. The reason I got out of the full sized trucks is because they are too hard to park. I had 4 wheel steering in my 2004 sierra Denali so I may have been spoiled for too long on this subject. Bought a 2015 Tacoma with no regrets other than it is harder to park then my old full sized model. The 2015 Tacoma also has a superior throttle response over all GM's and the off road ability of the Tacoma is priceless in many situations over my Sierra Denali GM. Had I known how fun the Tacoma is, I would have left GM a long time ago. But I agree it could use more power and I would like it to have AWD and 4 wheel steer. But for now I believe it is the easiest 4 door to park for length and site lines for 2015 but now the Tacoma just got longer which I do not agree with. I think it would be good to talk about turn radius and length comparisons in this segment, and you should mention front approach angles, I absolutely love the Tacoma for this over the GM's. Even steep driveway transitions were a problem in my GM along with snowbanks and off roading; with the Tacoma I just don't care, I hit everything hard and it wants more and I love it for that.

Hey Matt! I have the exact same model. If you press the ECT POWER button the transmission reacts and behaves like you would expect in sport mode. I was very annoyed by the throttle/transmission response. Turns out the standard mode is very geared towards "fuel economy".

Good review, been watching your reviews a while now, always enjoy them. A few suggestions, it is not as capable as a sport car?? I think that depends on what one considers "capable". Also, since it is an 4x4 truck seems like a quick off road test should have been scheduled throughout the week. You should discuss engine and transmission specs on your test vehicle and mention options or differences from older models. Lastly of course, I hope you realize you called it a Tundra at the end of the video and not a Tacoma.

Maybe with your truck tests you could put some load on it and see how it does. Hey you should invest in a performance timer so you can do some 0-60 times and a few things with real numbers. I have seen that on other channels and really enjoy it. Great review though.
