Wish granted. As announced at SEMA, aftermarket Borla exhaust as well as other performance upgrades (sway bars, springs, intake) are on the way. Best of all these will all be Hyundai supported and will not affect the warranty.

I own an R-spec and I absolutely love it. I am a Mustang guy, I have an 86 project, and had a '94 that was modded out of its mind. Is it as fast......no, not by a long shot. But so fun, it handles like it's on rails. Great stereo, great interface, I love this car. It's a very fun daily, and an absolute blast on back roads.

I have one. I love it except for 2 things. 1 is the rear visibility is trash, the drivers side back window is more of a portal. The rev hang is another, shifting from first to second especially has to be done slower than you could or youll always feel the mismatched RPM kick you in the seat. You either have to be super slow on the clutch or give it a second to drop. The higher you let it go in first the better but even from 5k rpm going to 2nd from first taking your foot off the gas for a full half second before you shift you still feel it.

I'm biased since I own a 2016 focus st but I was really impressed by the veloster r-spec. I still prefer my focus st with its power delivery of the higher out put engine compared to the veloster. But I agree, the veloster rides bit better, it handles about the same ish, puts the power down very well. Not a fan of the clutch feel and the shifter feel isn't as good as the focus st. However It is hands down one of the best performance hatches to buy for thr Monday and best bang for your buck.

I own one and I love it. Turbo lag from 1st to second combined with rev hang isn't great. Rear and driver side visibility behind your 3-9 o'clock isn't very good either. BUT...for 20k....its a great car. I have no regrets. For real though 1st to 2nd gear...you either got shift slow or murder the clutch. EDIT: after watching this theres no way he getting 30mpg a gallon in city especially if hes on it. The highway mpg is amazing especially if you drive it fuel consciously. But it drops off in city I guarantee you. Probably 25mpg on avg. (maybe a bit better i tend to push mine a bit)

I really appreciate your reviews and value your opinion. I have a question for you. To start, I don't care about zero to sixty times. I care about enjoying the drive and getting a reliable car that is fun to drive for a reasonable price. So, if it were you spending the money to own a car for ten years.... Would you rather have the Civic SI, the Veloster R Spec Turbo, Genesis G70 2.oL manual, Mazda 2.5L N/A Premium Hatchback, BMW 230i Manual Sport Coupe, Kia Forte GT Manual or any other model in a manual transmission? To drive daily and keep for ten years possibly. Miata is too small! :)

I completely understand what you're saying about the "fun factor", but for 1k more with the focus ST you get: - Better build quality (ie. interior, paint quality, etc.) - More power - Better reliability - More aftermarket support The go-kartness you seem to be saying has nearly everything to do with the tires, which don't define the car much. OEM's have to make decisions to market to the masses, by an owner does not. So you can just as easily put those tires on the ST, and the ST will definitely pull better G's on a skid pad because it does-so stock.
@johnholst
@johnholst 5 жыл бұрын
MrSlowest....The Focus ST is at least 3K more than the model shown in this video. Yes, you certainly get more power. But better build quality? Reliability? Dude! Where have you been living for the last five or six years? Hyundai passed Ford in both of those categories years ago!

2013 is considered the weakess year of Velosters....issues with the engine for the most part were resolved by 2015 models by that time they were using the same engine on the Tuscon, Forte SX, Elantra Sport, GT Sport, Optima, Sonanta, Soul Turbo and Kona. Most problems owners will have will focus on the dealer network and how much they want to advocate for you vs make a profit making you pay for the repair....in my area another issu are the techs themselves, some don't want to deal with warranty work or are new and can't identify and resolve an issue. Finally most of the Hyundai/Kia dealers by me admitted they were understaffed so newbies are out there trying to troubleshoot and they don't care enough to be thorough. In all fairness my Forte turbo has been pretty reliable at 64,000 miles. Diligence to maintance intervals is highly required.

I had a 2013 Veloster Turbo and it had a large amount of issues. What was worse than that though was the fact that Hyundai fought with me on every single issue. I had the extended warranty and they tried their very best to avoid repairs. I would say to anyone out there who is interested, look at another manufacturer. Hyundai, while cheap, does not offer the after sale support that is required. Nowadays, I just build my fun cars on my channel. We have our 2JZ Twin Turbo 240Z and my Mustang GT that we are building. 🙂

Build Brothers I had the exact opposite experience. Hyundai was nothing but helpful and even provided me with free oil change for waiting only 45 minutes. My car only ever had two issues. First the door locks went out and second the internal fuse box fried after jumpstarting and both were free for me. I believe its a matter of the dealership rather than the brand in whole. I would recommend the cars for those who want a unique looking car with great gas mileage and don't really want a ton of horsepower.

Hi Matt, question why might someone invest in cars such as the veloster, when you can basically get more car for the money (all be it used) like motor trend car of the year for 2003 like the very reliable Japanese built 2003 on INFINITI G35 Coupe for about 5K? By the way I am glad your enjoying more popularity by taking my suggestion of elongated Descriptive Titles on your videos, so congratulations Sir!

@jgt8684

Spark Levin because g35s for 5k are almost always high mileage and beat to hell with rust if you live where thats an issue. Also g35s are well known for burning oil are generally more expensive to maintain etc. People like buying new cars for the tech, reliability and fact that they dont have to worry about anything. Id still take the g35 because i love how vqs sound and it has a presence on the road though.
@sparklevin8050
@sparklevin8050 5 жыл бұрын
Matt yes but keep in mind in more peoples opinion the G35 just looks better with a classic design, plus it has all the modern safety feature like VDC Stability control and Head Curtain airbags, plus dirt cheap registration and insurance and even you end up avoiding the massive new car value loss when you drive off the lot that immediately puts most people underwater on their loans. Not Dumb actually very Smart and intelligent to go down that route if you find one that’s been taken care of! Right?

@MattMaranMotoring
@MattMaranMotoring 5 жыл бұрын
I don't have the engine tick thankfully. I'm not sure if they revised the engine for 19, I know the transmission was improved a little. There's lots of 18s without issues too. I just passed 2,000 miles yesterday so not a lot, but I'll be around 4,000 by the end of this month and will give a follow-up update then on how it's doing. I hope they get yours sorted out. The good thing is it's under warranty so it's on Ford to make it right, either with a new engine or buying the car back if it becomes eligible for lemon law.

Thanks Matt! Unfortunately I wasn't lucky enough to not have the problem. I'm worried if I push for a 19 that they might have the problem too although I can't find anybody talking about having the tick. Keep us posted on the issue if you can. Have you had an oil change yet?

I have a Caliber SRT4 and I'd love to see Matt's and Doug's take on it.. Unfortunately it's not stock so that kinda ruins the whole thing. But... It's a shame since SRT specifically designs their cars to be modded, especially so with the SRT4s because they know their audience is going to mod them.

@viru52000 5 жыл бұрын
Still pales in comparison to 10/100K warranty... Resale doesn't make a car "cheaper" in the long run unless you're leasing. But if you want to go there, cost of ownership is lower on the Veloster since the VW's cost of repair is so high. www.kbb.com/hyundai/veloster/2017/turbo-r-spec/?vehicleid=424232&intent=buy-new www.kbb.com/volkswagen/golf-gti/2017/s/?vehicleid=420967&intent=buy-new VW's interior materials break down and smell like crayons after a few years.
@irandoosty
@irandoosty 5 жыл бұрын
VW has bumper to bumper 6-year warranty so in essence, the repair cost is negligible.KBB is not updated to figure in the new VW warranty. Kia 's warranty is also 6 year bumper to bumper its 10 years only on the powertrain. I had a Jetta in the past and never experienced this crayon problem but its just my experience. I am waiting for the redesign GTI in 2020 to get one.

I just bought a r spec had for about 3 weeks I have never got 30 miles to a gallon in city . Also it is not worth paying the $28000 for the ultimate the r spec is right around $23000 you might get a deal during the holidays I got mine for 22900. Of course all of you kids out there. You have to figure your gap insurance which you better get that is more money on the car then you figure with good to excellent credit your looking at about %4 interest you can blame the feds for raising the interest rate!!! So all that combine walking out the door is right around $33000 remember that is counting interest gap and warranty coverage. How do I know all this I work for the dealerships know not a sales person a mechanic!!. So my point even to get a car like this which is a sports car it is going to cost you dont let somebody tell you oh it's only this and that your looking at payments with again awesome credit 350 to 450 a month I dont know to many college kids that can afford that!!! And on my car yes it is a nice looking little bad ass car. I have not drove the shit out of cause oh I dont know I like taking care of my car and I dont have Hyundai dropping me one off in the drive way. This kid must know people or his parents are members of the pta and golf club members 🤣 but I do like his reviews keep it coming
