Loved this Dean, brought back so many memories of when I was a kid and played this solo, like you, along with football. Had many test series and one day internationals in that very same era. I too tweaked some of the rules. I used several backstops , similar to that used for the WK, made of curved Meccano strips, to simulate fielders stopping the ball. Still have a set in the attic, and technology today might make scoring easier as it was a pain having to write everything down in my day. Guess a phone or laptop might help that and allow you to focus on the play!!

Thanks Steve, glad you enjoyed the video. I’ve loved playing the games again, like yourself I played international games when I was a kid. I think that’s the great thing about it, it takes you back to when you were a kid. I can picture myself playing on my mom’s carpet, couldn’t do it now at my age, I’m lucky to have a table for my backs sake! And using Meccano, that’s brilliant 👍

After we lost the stumps as kids, always used spaghetti 😂😂😂

Ingenious using Spaghetti Paul, did any of them break after being hit with a quicker delivery 😁

A great knock by Australia, so many dropped catches by England though! Late heroics by Miller could not save the game for England. i liked your run-out adaptation, the rule in the book talks about having to hook you finger around the ball so it's vitually impossible to hit the stumps.

It was a very good knock in the end they were struggling at one point! Miller unlucky to be on the losing side. The run out method in the rules just doesn’t work for me. The method I used was suggested by someone in one of the Facebook group’s and makes so much more sense.

This requires Richie Benaud’s “good morning everyone “ before a Jim Laker’s “He’s Bowled him!” Excellent channel - subscribed

Subbuteo football works but this game is a stretch.

The first question that comes to mind, have you played it? It is a very enjoyable game to play, if you haven’t it’s worth giving it a try.

@@SubbuteoFocus I was watching a video compilation of old toy ads on here and one of the ads was for Subbuteo. That sent me down a rabbit hole, reading about it on Wiki and watching people's set ups on here. I'm early 40s and remember seeing Subbuteo football as a kid but I've never played it. I was surprised to see people still play it and sets are still sporadically released. I had no idea Subbuteo made table top games for other sports. I don't think I would enjoy cricket but each to there own. Subbuteo in general is not something I plan on getting into, it was just interesting to see it's still going.

@@benmac6147 that’s fair enough, a lot of enthusiasts played the game when they were younger and some like myself got back into it during the pandemic lockdowns. And I guess some of it’s appeal is the nostalgia and fondness of remembering back to when you were a kid playing the game. The football is definitely quicker to play but the Cricket I find more satisfying to play especially when a middle stump is hit or a catch is taken. But there again I enjoy watching both sports in real life! And it is a quite popular hobby across many countries, if you look in the right places 😁
