Subic Bay Freeport Zone

Күн бұрын

Rising from the ashes of Mt. Pinatubo and the pullout of US bases from the Philippines, this is how the founding father of the SBMA, Richard J. Gordon, and the people of Olongapo City transformed Subic Bay into the country's first freeport.
This is the history of the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.

Blame the 1991 Philippine 'Dirty Dozen' Senators in voting against the treaty for the US Bases Agreement renewal: 1. Teofisto Guingona, 2. Juan Pone Enrile, 3. Wigberto Tañada, 4. Ernesto Maceda, 5. Agapito Aquino, 6. Orlando Mercado, 7. Victor Ziga 8. Rene Saguisag, 9. Jovito Salonga 10. Aquilino Pimentel Jr 11. Sotero Laurel, who died in 2009 12. Joseph Estrada

Miguel Antonio Pedrajas Dagdagan, Yup. Now you can ask the remaining 1991 ‘Dirty Dozen’ senators their opinion about the wisdom of their votes upon the security of the whole region in the South China Sea. We have a new Asian bully (Red China) similar to their much-hated 1930-45 Japanese bully (responsible for the Rape of Nanking, destruction of pre-1942 Manila, massacre of Western military prisoners in Asia, etc.), muscling in the South China Sea neighborhood.

kulas jennerman, Bale wala iyon.

BIGGEST MISTAKE THAT THE PH MADE NOT RENEWING THE THE BASES AGREEMENT OR THE TREATY

"BIGGEST MISTAKE THAT THE PH MADE NOT RENEWING THE THE BASES AGREEMENT OR THE TREATY" -- Agree. Pinoys are one of the most principled people on earth. Problem is so many of its citizens suffer poverty and the bureaucrats are not really good at managing the country's affairs. Instead, they are more concerned about prolonging their own legacies.

When I was stationed aboard the USS Midway, 7th Fleet back in 1985-89 we used to spend more of our American dollars there in the Subic Bay economy... But when president Corazon Aquino was president, she was upset with our government for not help paying the clean up damages of Mt. Pinatubo, but we did cleaned up the American bases of Clark & Subic. So she refuses to renew our lease for not cleaning up all surrounding areas of the Philippines, and then President G. Bush (41) decided to pull out & transfer of all military forces to Guam & Hawaii... And the people of the Philippines were also tired of their women serving as prostitute to the men of the Americans arm services.

Fake news. President Cory Aquino was FOR the base lease renewal in 1991 and even had 1,000 of her supporters lobby the Philippine Senate. Philippine Senate voted down the base renewal in a 12-11 vote.

You need to research who was in favor and who were opposed in renewing the U.S. military bases lease in the Philippines. President Cory Aquino was pushing for the approval using her political capital and followers. She lost by one vote in 11-12 rejecting the lease renewal.

Departure plans for the U.S Military from the Philippines were being drawn up long before Pinatubo and the Philippines Congress vote. The Cold War was winding down and the Middle East was on the Pentagons plate then. Filipino National Pride was on the move so the results were inevitable.

Why did you let Subic Bay leave the PH anyway, we need the US Base there to deter China from aggression. If I remember it’s the young Filipinos who are behind it, they don’t know anything about our security. They have to be educated about this.

Why include the name of Cory Aquino in your rant?? It was she who wanted the American bases retained. She persuaded the Senators to vote for retention but those opposed to retention won by only 1 vote: 12 vs. 1. The 12 senators were Senate President Jovito Salonga and senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Agapito Aquino, Joseph Estrada, Teofisto Guingona Jr., Sotero Laurel, Orlando Mercado, Ernesto Maceda, Aquilino Pimentel Jr, Victor Ziga, Rene Saguisag and Wigberto Tañada.
