Simply a work of art, how you "play" the CNC machines. Wonderful to see. Epic.

newer Darton sleeve designs have 5mm and more channel from the top of sleeves to allow water flow for the street and circuit racing where it counts and its only been a couple of years since these were still used which are now just for drag racing.

Have you considered getting one of those renishaw tool offset checkers? It might be a few thou more accurate than checking the Z height off the deck surface. I doubt it matters too much if the deck is surfaced afterwards but it's one less variable to possibly go wrong. It's awesome to see how far your shop has come along!
@rlew124 жыл бұрын
Just noticed you have it, was that just to double check you had the deck height right after probing?
@kurkkobain Жыл бұрын
Diesnt matter how you do it, what matters is do it right.there are a lot of errors during the face on engine head.

Fantastic work, Set up is KING. when you set the sleeves into the block, they both lined up perfectly. to me that is a sign of perfect boring of the block. Thank you for your great channel. (also did you work on the Brazzers Subi?)
@risengdesign4 жыл бұрын
Looks awesome. Just wanted to point out that your boring head (EWN68) has a resolution of 0,002, not 0,01 as you stated :D I have the same for my VF-2.. I would have probed each cylinder to its own G54 and G55, and do operations for both at the same time, that way reducing the number of adjustments and tool changes, also reducing the probable destortion on the first cylinder as a result of boring out the second. Great videos!

As I do this everyday with all my billet blocks aswell as sleeving oem blocks, I don’t do 4 cylinder engines, only v8’s, just a tip, probe the bore centres on both bores and let the machine run 2 cylinder pots on the same boring head adjustment, or depending on depth, side mill the old sleeves until touching alloy, then bore to size with the boring head. You’ll be surprised how much faster you’ll get the machining done.

Can anyone explain why you would "check" if the block/haas is level with that thing? (Wasserwaage) thats not accurate enough or? Its better with that thing on the Haas?
@OleZZ2224 жыл бұрын
The block can be damaged or some dirt you haven't been noticed gathered on the bottom. Checkling for level is an easy/fast way to be shure. -> measure twice, cut once.
@Meineoma854 жыл бұрын
Warum bohrst Du denn die Durchemsser nicht direkt bei beiden zylindern? Das spart nochmal Arbeit. Bei haas sollte es da eine Werzeugnullpunktverschiebung geben.

Hi Andy Supernice job as always. How do you remove the old sleeves in the EJ22? Just by cutting them away with the CNC milling machine? Or do you press them away before boring the correct sizes for the new ones? Many thanks. I wish I could understand German to better appreciate all your details
@jeffbecker87164 жыл бұрын
When you press them in, do you use anything on the sleeve walls to improve thermal conductivity, like a COPPER spray? They used to recommend that for cylinder head gaskets, but I don't see anyone talking about it/using it anymore. Kind of along the same theory as your custom copper wire fire rings that you press in.

Great video and awesome to see you giving this EJ22 some new life. Just wanted to clarify that the EJ22 was not at all a WRC engine, and not developed for that purpose, so it's a bit misleading to title the video as such. The Subaru WRC engine was always based on the closed deck EJ20 (2.0 litre), and featured an o-ring'd block as well as machined channels for a complex coolant/oil gasket

Why don't you use 2 WCS (G54 and G55 ) on the offset page to run the same program on both cylinders simultaneously, so you don't have to change the size of the boring head so many times PD: im sorry google translator
