Great video. Last year, I was about to do the same to my 2014 XT but felt there still wasn't enough light that was going to go toward the trunk. My guy that did my tints and all my LED inside and outside upgrade (to include fog lights, headlights, all internal lights and added footwell lighting) said he could install it right into the headliner in back, much like the 2013 Forester had. We ordered a 2013 light switch (what's cool is that it has an additional switch so you decide whether you want it to turn on or stay off if you open up the trunk). He ran the power source form the same side light and presto, done. Headliner had to be removed but it was an easy job. Now the light is actually in the trunk, illuminating the entire storage area. It looks great and is one of the best upgrades I've done to my XT. It's like night and day. Thanks for all these videos you post. Cheers!

Just did this install - for the rubber hose, I used a coathanger to fish the wire through. Poke the hanger through first then pull the wire (I taped mine). Make sure it's not too pointy as you don't want to damage the rubber. Also had a blown fuse btw - I realized I might have blown it during the install when the red wire touched the car body, so you might want to tape the wire ends prior to running them if they're bare, as mine were when shipped, or plug it into the car's harness right at the end.

Just installed on my UK ‘14 XT with power lift tailgate. Video helped - thanks! I didn’t remove the left side tailgate trim because of the lifter on that side and only prised the main trim down to feed in the wire. No issue with performance of the LED unit - works great! They should have done this as OEM (Subaru) great upgrade Subispeed 👍🏻

Just finished installing mine. Great install video, really helped out. Im excited to see more of these for more FXT parts. ps. No kidding that rubber tube was "tricky" it took me just as long to pop all all the panels. Thanks for the heads up.

@Subispeed Great video. I've seen this light installed in the Ascent. I tried to follow this video but removing the bottom trim panel of the door is not the same. There are no screws near the handle and hook on the passenger side. There are no visible screws to remove anywhere else. Can you help?

Yes a little blinding sometimes, but I don't have time to rip my entire trunk apart when I can pop this in in like 5 min.

If you have a lot of gear in the back, for instance when you go camping, that light often gets blocked making it irrelevant. The overhead light fixes this problem.
@kartboarder22g17 Жыл бұрын
@@TheTamrielDrunkard honestly though I agree and this car is made for people to go camping. Not sure why Subaru doesn't offer a light on the trunk. My 2008 Saturn Vue had it. So maybe they rectified it in current versions. Overall I'm not pulling my trunk apart to fix this. The side light works for my purposes plus I don't use this car for camping anymore.

Very well done, but never, ever use a screwdriver on plastic panels. Use plastic trim removal tools instead. They are inexpensive and do not scratch the plastic trim panels.

This is/was my worry for my 2017 Forester. This kit looks like it will fit, but I am not really sure about pulling the trim off of the trunk with that button. Does wiring to that button have to be removed to do this or would it be best just to have someone peel back the top part of the trim by the window and sides but not all the way off? Then you could just feed the wire for the light kit through as you instructed?
@crowing77 жыл бұрын
I installed this on my '16 Forester Touring. It's a little extra fuss with the power gate but hardly a major issue. There's an extra step in popping the button away from the panel. I think I had to push it into the interior. You may want an extra hand to hold the panel up so that it's not hanging on and stressing the wires. Beyond that take your time and you'll be fine. Works great.

Seems to be working fine and it's been a few months now. Is it a bad idea to run it with no fuse?
@kartboarder22g175 жыл бұрын
@@twollons8149 No you will be fine, there is a fuse going to the trunk light, and if you have a short on your new wiring it will burn out the switch to the light. I see that the trunk light is seperate from the other interior lighting, so I'm thinking it has a seperate fuse. Yet if I'm wrong and you have a short all your interior lights/some other stuff(lgithting most likely) would be out until you fixed the short and replaced the fuse. Replacing the fuse will only make the new fuse blow out. Short needs to be figured out and replaced first.
