Sublimation on a Home Depot Door Mat Tutorial -Sublimating on Home Depot Doormat - TRAFFICmaster

I got this door mat a while ago, and since, this size has been discontinued -the larger size is available.
I am pressing in 3 presses and I designed the image myself. I like the black ink because it is so dark, but colors work great too. Just keep them deep.

Thank you.. well done and I liked it very much. So... now that its been about two years later .. how is that mat looking? did you leave it outside? did the print fade? I have been watching tutorials like yours and would like to know the condition of the mat and print a while later .. Thanks again .

Thank you. I actually use it just inside my doorway to my sunroom. It gets lots of sun and foot traffic. It has gotten a little dirty, but I would not say the print faded.

You can use ethanol wipes to wipe the paper. Works perfectly with me.

Thanks so much Bob! I have the first one I did still looking great! It's been a little over 2 years now. I did hit it with Scotchguard and keep it on the inside of my doorway. The image will not rub or fade away. If anything, the rest of the mat would get dirty - but they are very durable and stand up to a good cleaning. I hope this helps.

hmmm. Are you sure you were using the 100%poly TrafficMaster brand? What was your time and temp? What inks did you use?

Thanks Tammy. This was Elmers brand, but any repositionable adhesive spray will work.

Hi Stacy, found a few of these at Home Depot on sale...score...I was wondering about the rubber backing melting. Is there any of that happening at such a high heat press?

It doesn't melt because the bottom platen absorbs the heat. However,..it does get warm and stinks! Do this with windows open and fans on.

400 degrees Fahrenheit - 60-70 seconds - firm pressure

yes, I pressed it a little hotter than 400. I was compensating for the temp drop when the mat went in.

the pressure is somewhere between medium and high. The mats are very durable. Go for it! It's a super fun project :)

Hi Donna. As of now I don't have designs up for sale. I created it in Illustrator and Photoshop. You could find similar ones by searching "demask" or corner flourish".

I bought a rug mat by accident.I assumed it was 100% polyester along with the other polyester rugs and it says 100% Olefin. Have you heard of this fabric before and do you know if you can sublimate on it? The instructions says do not iron.

I have never heard of it, but i did a quick google search and found that is is made up of propylene. I also read that the material has many other man made compounds and should be used outdoors because of the off gassing. Cleaning recommendations say to not use an iron, or it will burn the fibers. Final answer: This type of material will not take sublimation. You could try a stencil and chalk paint.

@@stacyodesigns You was absolutely correct. Once I tried to heatpress it I burned the rug so bad that I could not even pull the sublimation off from the rug. It was an ah’hah and experimental moment for me😂😂 The rug was only $5 so it wasn’t a big deal for me. I also was blessed to not damage my machine.

There is no plastic on this. But there is rubber, and that part gives off a strong smell when heated. Do this in a ventilated area.

I have seen some people use an easy press for sublimation. The results vary. Sublimation relies (especially these mats) on even and constant pressure. They basically put the project on the floor and use their body weight.

yes. the inside of the mat is polyester. The black part is rubber. Open ALLLLLL the windows when pressing.

I used ELMERS Repositionable Mounting Spray Adhesive -but any repositional spray adhesive would work.

You are absolutely right. When this trend came about, that was the rumor - but it turns out they are just seasonal. However, I live in a pretty big city and mine has never gone out of stock.
